  1. It's most likely that the person making the statement is trying to hype how much more "new" animation fans will be getting. Of course, it doesn't bode well, given that they've made repeated claims over the past half a year and they've yet to indicate a release date for the finished product...
  2. Best to forget about it and move on. Back to the movie: hopefully the script writers will retain the essence of the original manga/movie and create something actually well written with well-defined characters. (I'm at the point where I want a movie to make me care about the people before the people are thrown into life & death situations.) Even if the end result has the barest resemblance of the original. On the other hand, I also hope the producers avoid the temptation to make it "Japanese" (a la "FtF Tokyo Drift"). Not sure what the best option is (if I knew, I'd be producing movies ), but I really hate the "it's set in Japan but filmed in LA" movie.
  3. Obviously one has to check out older Hollywood movies... E.g.: "The Party" w/ Peter Sellers.
  4. ... buy the magazine? Personally, I've flipped through it. Was tempted to buy it as it's got a fairly large article with an interview w/ S.K.; but ultimately decided not to as aside from some heretofore unseen game mecha, there's nothing really truly must-have about the rest of the images/articles. But that's just me.
  5. Bingo!
  6. Nope. The only hint I'll give is: it has nothing to do with ships!
  7. ... if memory serves, the 3 mounds are in the middle of the wilderness, in SC. So... what happened? Were the structures under construction later moved out of the city? If so, why couldn't they do that right away? Comic version makes even less sense in their attempt to explain...
  8. <shrugs> To each there own. Though, I am surprised about two things: Macross content has increased (a 2nd manga, never-mind anything about it) and the size of the Macross news feature.
  9. 2011 Vol. 02 out. Cover: Macross gets 2nd billing, after Gundam and before Code Gias. Macross Content: Macross Ace + news: starts with mentioning that October 2011 is the 30th anniversary of Macross. Hybrid Pack: 4 pages! Movie and game and more. Game mecha introduced: Hound Vajra and the VB-6 Koening Monster, FTW! Macross 30th news: Newtype Ace X Telephone Service, keitai straps, etc., Yoko Kanno Produces Macross F Super Dimensional Super Performance Cosmic Nyan BD&DVD Macross Goods Express: Sheryl/Klan SD figurines and Sheryl's mist... which I still think looks like a home pregnancy tester! Love Song(s) of the Galaxy: 2 pg splash featuring FB2012 Minmei, but also all the other main Macross singers (DYRL Minmei, Ishtar, Sharon, Mireenu, Sarah, Mao, Sheryl, Ranka) Macross the First: reprint of the 1st Mars chapter... at least the 1st 6 pages are in colour, and is followed by... MtF: Unified Forces Mechanic Vol.1: SDF-1, ARMD, PPB, VF-1, ES-11D, QF-3000E, SLV-III, HWR-00-Mk II, ADR-04-Mk X, MBR-O4 Mk VI, and... SDF-1's ship log: return to Earth from Pluto, and... This Month's Minmei-chan: 2 pg B&W collection of illos from previous chapters. The WTF moment goes to: Macross Plus world guide (2 pg) followed by... Macross Plus TAC Name #05 ... what about 7th Chord? I found that one much more interesting and... ORIGINAL. Non-Macross Content (focusing on the manga, as w/ news, interviews, et al, it's too much to report! Non-manga is indicated.) Masamune Shirow poster: surprise surprise! Full Metal Panic! Another: not in 1st issue. Artwork looks clean, and storyline looks clear and interesting. Masamune Shirow Works [column]: I thought it was just an ad in the 1st issue. Turns out it's a regular column. This one's topic is Landmates. The ad parts: Appleseed XIII OVA and Appleseed 1~4 collections. Tiger & Bunny: artwork looks clean and easy to follow. Alas, as the 1st issue gave me the impression that it's like watching a superhero video game over someone else's shoulder, I'm not interested. If you're into it, pls review. Tiger & Bunny 4 panel: gag manga. Tiger & Bunny Anthology: 2 shorts by different artists. Last Exile: interesting and clear hashed art. Enjoyed #1's story. Don't like how the character's all look like preteens, but other than that, it's quite dynamic. Maagumerudo: despite having excellent mecha design skills, the layout doesn't flow very well, and the story is pedantic at worst, predictable at best. Mecha/space opera genre, but it's portrayal leaves TOO much to be desired. Gave up on #1 within the 1st 10 pages... Fate/Zero Comic A La Carte: 3 shorts by different artists. Not in #1. Sacred Seven: panel organization/layout is unclear at times, but otherwise OK. Storyline is juvenile and I gave up on #1 within the 1st 10 pages because it was cliched, trite and frankly, boring. Maybe I'm not the target demographic? Un-go: clean and clear artwork. Not sure where the story's going, but just for that, it's interesting. Horror/mystery genre. Legend of Tomino: gag manga about... Tomino. #1 was fun. Blood Dog: artwork very clear, and the story even better. After Macross The First, the most recommended. Not sure if horror works all that well in manga format, but I really enjoy the originality and characterization. Asura's Wrath: not quite into the Streetfighter/gods battle royale rumble genre, but #1 had some interesting stuff. The artwork, though confusing in a couple of spots, is a refreshing break from the traditional manga style - though it tends to be washed out in a few too many places. Towanoquon: another manga that has clear art and layouts, but the characters just don't appeal to me. I like power suits. I don't mind power suits fighting monsters. I just don't like kids in the mix... again, it's another manga that makes me worry about the target demographic of Newtype Ace and if Macross is sustainable in it... Yojiten: clear artwork and fun, in a not serious, mindless way. Borderline: very clean and clear artwork in this mecha combat/high school story. #3 recommended. Tera Ethinic Heroes: not in #1. Artwork looks a little unclear in spots. Not sure what to make of it on first viewing... White Swan: not in #1. artwork looks clear. Looks serious/horror/romance, but ends with a gag strip... another not sure what to make of it... Conclusion: the reprinting of Macross the First is disappointed but not completely unexpected. For ¥580 it's not a big hit on the bank, especially as some of the non-Macross content is quite interesting (though, there's still a bunch of crap...) Not sure if it's worth the import fees for those overseas.
  10. The status of VF-4 Super Parts as part of the Official Setting of the Studio Nue timelineare is also unclear. Simply put: There are VF-4 FAST Packs for the Macross II version. But it must be kept in mind that this version of the VF-4 also has a totally different transformation mechanism, and subsequently different GERWALK and battroid modes. There are VF-4 Super Parts for the Studio Nue timeline penned by Kawamori Shouji, but there official status is unconfirmed. At best they are indirectly alluded to in Macross Chronicle. There is also a streamlined, armless and unable to transform to battroid VF-4 variant in the Studio Nue official setting. Images of the streamlined version are available in Macross the Ride, as well as in the same picture with the large booster super parts here: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics/VF-4/VF-4.html#OPTIONAL_SYSTEMS
  11. Basically yes. The only thing I think that needs to be added is the amount of energy needed to perform the fold. The short answer is that it's not clear, but implications are that the farther you want to travel, the more energy is required; and most every vehicle does not have the ability to generate large amounts of energy on a sustained basis. What is the average distance of a fold? Beyond the ones S.K. mentioned + energy generation limitations, there is only one other factor: maps or the lack thereof. One can't really fold into or through areas of unexplored space without great risk. Basically no. "The difference of the subjectivity [one's opinion] and objectivity of time is only a little" Or, in clearer English: there's only a small difference between the objective and subjective passage of time. Also: "Super Fold Booster... (With it) there is no difference in the subjectivity and objectivity of time (spent in fold), and it is said that the travel time in the area of space that had been put to use (by mankind) was reduced to a tenth." Or, in clearer English: there's no difference in the objective and subjective passage of time, and folds are a couple orders of magnitude faster. Both quotes from Technology: Overtechnology 04b http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2338.msg35077#msg35077 (wish I had more of it posted...)
  12. What S.K. said, + http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Locations.htm#slref (list gleaned from various sources. Don't forget to note the colour coding).
  13. Bingo! New one: "Disused Ship"
  14. Nope. ... and just realized that I forgot a step in the translation discovery: English > German > English > Japanese > English
  15. Re: Boots Not so much a hint, but just how it was... uhm, discovered: English -> Japanese -> English Of course, if anyone wants a hint... ask and I'll give one (Of course, coming up with a hint that won't make it super easy is another story...)
  16. Impressive. Harder one 4 ya: Boots.
  17. Good job. Here's another: The dragon which hid the tiger is lowered low.
  18. I gots one: "British's patient"
  19. Lower the shields, man. I was defending your site. I guess the next time someone points out a badly phrased translation that you've copied and pasted, you'll have to explain it yourself.
  20. Which orbit? 100 km? 1000 km? Have you factored in that there are two engines? The figures are instantaneous thrust? In the absence of friction, any output can be considered cumulative?
  21. You guys do realize that Macross Mecha Manual got it's information from somewhere else, right? http://macross.anime.net/wiki/YF-19#Powerplant ... and that ugly translation rears its ugly little head once more... Hint: it helps make sense to look at the output per regime: atmosphere: 42,700 kg space: 67,500 [64,700] kg Make better sense?
  22. Completed Mechanic: SDFM Zent 08a Battleships of the Zentraadi Forces http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2803.msg43051#msg43051 Not sure if the few hard numbers the page has aren't published elsewhere. Wish that there was more information available on the ships... ah well. Another translation crossed off the list.
  23. Faster. Simply because in deep space there isn't any atmosphere to act on the airframe to slow a VF down. So any acceleration is cumulative (obviously this is ignoring close proximity to large masses and needs for escape velocities.) Now, if you're asking about engine output in space: then yes, that, too, is higher in space; again because of that pesky thing called air. VF engines have limitations put on them because they can propel the airframe SOOOOOOOOO fast that it'll melt. For an idea of what heating due to high speed does to an airframe, I recommend looking up the Concorde and the Blackbird.

... and continues: Bit o' a WIP: http://www.deviantart.com/download/214427159/vf_5_over_uraga_wip2_by_studiootaking-d3jnx1z.jpg The Uraga came out much better than I anticipated (and yes, that's despite there not being any lineart that clearly depicts the bridge side of the ship!)
