Skyfall, the next James Bond 007 Film
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As someone in similar circumstances and with similar feelings about the movies... ... no, Quantum of Solace doesn't improve on repeat viewings. Though, there is one advantage: you'll know when it's time to pay attention, and time to daydream.- 251 replies

Skyfall, the next James Bond 007 Film
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As long as they go back to the roots of Bond (that being: ultimately it's a fantasy), it should come out right. The problem is that the preceding 2 movies have tried to emulate the Borne ID movies, and have essentially replaced fantasy with the Borne version of reality. CR worked (for me), because ultimately it's a character piece - and we got a lot of character development. Which is why I have high hopes for this new Bond - the director is (at least to me) perceived as a character director. Time will tell - especially if the producers override the director's script/plot/characterization direction...- 251 replies

Heh... I was just going to pin it to a failure to meet deadlines. Anywho... for all those complaining about it, just remember: Palladium Books is promising and DELIVERING content. That's much, much more positive than can be said about HG, which is not only promising and FAILING to deliver content, but also actively BLOCKING others from delivering content.

The Squiddies in "the Matrix" and some of the battle droids in the prequel series are good examples of aesthetically appealing "mecha". Nevertheless, I fully agree that there aren't many Westerners who have good eyes for aesthetically appeasing, fictitious robot design with the plausibility of conforming to real-world physics.

Quantum Cannon is consistent with the published materials on Macross Frontier (that's published in Japanese, and translated into English). Interceptor missile is... odd. Especially because the Japanese for reaction missiles is generally 反応弾 (reaction warhead). But I can kinda see how it happened. 反応 means both reaction & response. Response -> launched in response -> intercept? What's more shocking is the Guantanamo carriers in the background. Those are space-use only!

Ahh, I C. Well, the rest of the article contains numerous mentions of VF-19, VF-19E, VF-19EF, and a YF-19. The interview with Dr. Chiba includes a reference to a "VF-19E Isamu Special". But that appears to be the interviewer speculating, as Dr. Chiba immediately corrects him by saying the parts look closer to the A type. I think a lot of posters have forgotten that the VF-19A looks nearly identical to the YF-19... ... and it's more likely that S.M.S. is fielding a mass-produced model that has easier access to replacement parts than an extremely limited experimental production model which may or may not have even survived testing or ending up in a museum...

Transending the Protoculture

It *might* have been like the energy conversion armour - something that Kawamori-san had in mind from the get go, but wasn't able to work into SDFM. On the other hand, it probably was something created for MF to explain away all the space-fold delays that have appeared in previous series to improve consistency between the various productions (the ol' "we should do an episode explaining the Klingon make-up change fold delays thing"). -
Emulating alien technologies in Macross
sketchley replied to RedWolf's topic in Movies and TV Series
But the master files already do? At the very least, they talk about them in passing. If we ever get a VF-11 book, we'll have all of those unseen VFs covered. But the master file books shouldn't be the source - as the writers themselves state that they are not part of the official setting. Macross Chronicle is the way to go. Anyhow, the best list of all the VFs (with some notations of the heretofore unseen and only mentioned briefly in passing) that I've cobbled together over the years: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics.htm#Variable_Fighters (Be warned, it's a work in progress, as is all things with Macross; bound to be updated with the next publication/series, and bound to have entries not officially part of the official setting (maybe they were at one time, maybe they never were). -
I understand enough to know that Babelfish is giving an accurate translation.

Legality of the use of the content aside, it IS shooting themselves in the foot, because ultimately these things serve as free publicity (way to go on that logic: no publicity is good publicity). Also... are they selling it? If it genuinely is infringing on sales, I can see a justification. But are they?

In addition to the rear rockets anime52k8 posted about, it can also use the ankle thrust reversers and other vernier rockets when "skating", and the feet/engine nozzles when in flight.
