Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
sketchley replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's all in the shadows. Seriously, (and this is speaking in reference to the image posted above ONLY), based on the visual ques it's giving me, it looks like it's nose heavy and the engines are placed behind the halfway point. Thereby giving the impression that it's unbalanced. Now, it's true that we don't know what internal machinery is located where, and that could affect weight distribution. However, this is for a movie that's supposed to sell us on it within 5 seconds of it appearing on screen. If my 5 seconds made me think it's front heavy and prone to toppling over, then the design has failed to be realistic, no? (on the flip side, the med pod and transport work for me. They don't look like they'll topple over unless if AP's Fat Ba$tard lies down on it or the Dropship crashes into it.) -
It makes a lot of sense. Not only does it keep developmental costs down, the parts are well tested. One less thing to worry about when developing craft that invariably are experimenting on some new application of technology.

It's not.

Completed: Mechanic Zero UN 01A: VF-0S http://www.macrossro...hp?topic=2876.0 Earlier I was planning to bemoan how the retcon of the VF-1's back-story is most obvious with this sheet, but, surprise surprise, it actually has a couple of nuggets of information that I haven't read (in English) before - the biggest being a description of the mechanics of Energy Conversion Armour. Mind blown.

Try bracing. Ie: fix the part on something wide enough for the heel of your hand to rest while you brush. At the very least, you'll eliminate arm/elbow induced jitters, and only have to contend with finger jitters.

Maybe on the inside? Now, the question I have is: are the parts that are being described because that's how they're shown used in the movie? Or is it just gobbledygook greeble cooked up by the graphic designer and/or web designer? My main problem with this is that the engine pivot is waaaaaaaay far behind the implied centre of gravity. In flight, angling the engines will compensate, but once its landed, I have the impression that it'll fall on it's nose, and dent that precious "fireproof windscreen". -
As the BR is out, there's no need to put that in spoiler tags any longer...

Funny you should ask about it... as I was just doing a search on it. Try searching with: マクロス・クロニクル新訂版 Dunno what issue it is, but one came out on 2012.04.03, and the next is due on 2012.04.17. http://www.7netshopping.jp/all/search_result/?kword_in=%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9%E3%83%BB%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%83%8B%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AB%E6%96%B0%E8%A8%82%E7%89%88&submit22.x=0&submit22.y=0 I think the one on the 17th is #9...

I'm guessing that as part of their (that's NA's) 30th anniversary tie in, that we should look forward to at least 2 more of these booklets (Kawamori & Miyatake). Wonder if other creators like Itano et al will get their own, too? I'm gonna have to head out to Daiso tomorrow to pick up a B4 binder for these booklets...

Completed: Mechanic SDFM UN 12a SLV-111 Daedalus http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2875.0 Some interesting stuff. Not much. But some. I found the reason behind the two bridges especially enlightening.

I was thinking about why is art is so bad... and aside from the ones mentioned in the link (lack of forethought, adding things after the fact, inability to do research on things like anatonmy, dislike of feet, etc., he's too focused on the individual parts, despite the overall composition. Let's take the captain america picture appearing in this thread: back: ok. head: ok. chest: ok. Altogether? Unbalanced disproportions. Now, I'd like to say why he's so crappy-yet-successful is because he meets deadlines. But apparently he can't even do that! THAT is the most shocking. How does he remain employed? Is there a dearth of competent artist in the industry? Are comic readers more interested in muscles, pouches, and individual parts, but ignore the total composition? Or don't care?

There are some Factory Satellites that are dedicated exclusively to cloning Zentraadi (apparently they're the smaller sized FS). The fold navigation system they're referring to is the Factory Satellite they captured. It's in a rather poor state of disrepair. Hence the reason why not only will the fold navigation system break down, but also the Regaado line continually breaks down.

This brings up an interesting point: is MF the way it is because it's the current fad, common throughout the industry, or is it a gimmick to make it stand out in an over-saturated marketplace? A situation that SDFM or even M7 didn't have to deal with (by this, I'm referring to the proliferation of specialty channels and online content). ... or is it because MF is a late-night anime, where such things are prevalent, but not necessarily representative of the industry as a whole? ... or all of the above?

Completed: Mechanic Zero AUA 03A: Auerstedt http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2874.0 Some interesting nuggets. Highlight being: so that's where the torpedo that blew up Mao's boat came from.

2 words: sex sells... ... and didn't Gubaba say in an earlier post that we see Minmei completely naked? Don't recall that happening with any of the female characters of MF... Moe Macross = More Macross, eh. As a preceding poster stated: Macross is a product. The various incarnations of Macross reflect what is sellings on the market at the time that series is produced. (Exception being Macross Zero. Which didn't make that much of a splash, despite catering to the harder sci-fi aspects of the series. That or it's because it's the opera Macross... which doesn't have that much of an appeal these days.)
-
I raise with an unrealistic naked spastic that controls a plane with a guitar that shoots music at aliens. Just think about how much worse it, or any other incarnation of Macross could've been. ... and keep in mind that Kawamori himself has stated that MF could've had naked pilots, if it weren't for a preceding series where he got that idea out of his system! Anyhow... how can you know a "good" Macross if you've never experienced a "bad" Macross? (rhetorical question)

Plus I thought it was fairly obvious from the vehicle designs in Prometheus that Aliens is pretty closely tied to Prometheus. Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see *how* closely it's tied in. Even if they avoid it (like Macross, not saying one way or the other about it) speaks volumes. -
30th Anniversary Exhibit NEWS - Talk
sketchley replied to dreadpyrat's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm still on the fence whether I'll go or not. As cool as seeing a 1:1 scale VF (no matter the model) is, the rest of it hasn't exactly made me scream "must see!"... Pending the day of the week, this Gaijin Butai Kansai Shotai member may be able to meet up with the Kanto Shotai members.- 291 replies

 Nah. The execution was great. And just like Verhoeven's action films of the late `80's and early '90's, It's full of satire! And even without the Arnie cult, how can you not like him ripping that big booger out of his nose?

Translation of the PS1 game "SDFM:DYRL" mail-away exclusive gift: "Minmei's Last Message": http://www.macrossro...ic=2872.new#new Is it part of the official setting? Is it only a comment written up on the fly by a real-world company executive for a game based on a movie which the official setting relegates as a movie within a movie in order to do some market research? That's up to the beholder to decide. It does, on the other hand, provided a starting point for contemplating the eternal question: "What happened to (insert Megaroad-1 passenger/crew name)?"
-
Mobage, eh? Isn't that free to play? (Well free, if you don't consider viewing streaming ads as payment). Wonder if that'll have a positive effect for Macross in general?
-
Huh. I was thinking all like "the Fifth Element" while watching that. Other than the circular lighted thing, nothing looks very interesting. Was that the same music as the BGM in the first "Prometheus" trailer? What's the point of all these remakes? A MW member indicated Bay's homepage in that Turtle's discussion. And his (Bay's) attitude was aggravating. If a movie "passes out of the current generation of movie goers mind", it's fair game for a remake or something. What ever happened to creativity? Coming up with new ideas, even if it's fundamentally a copy of something that's gone before?
