  1. ??? [checks signatures] Oh! So that's what it's for. Luckily I have scans of the book on my HD (from way back, part of a project that the retconning of MF, M0 et al has rendered redundant). Alas the photographs themselves are half in shadow... at the very least, it should give you some dimensional references... Note: the Hobby Handbook came out in 1983 - which begs the question: how much are the differences from the line art due to artistic license? How much are they do to the limits of modelling technology? PS heh... never noticed the Minmei on the leg before... ... and translation of the text on the page: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2315.msg34522#msg34522
  2. It's a character encoding problem. Due, most likely, to the original poster (Renato?) using one encoding (Shift_JS, EUC-JP) and the poster who copied it using different encoding. Switching to Unicode (UTF- in Firefox solves the problem for me (view > Character Encoding).

  4. It has a head. The radome's covering it, like a hat. Here's a write-up of the limited information I've managed to scrounge up about it (note: green is official setting, blue is extended universe, and black is unofficial).
  5. That's still rather ambitious. 1 VF stuck in one mode is 1/3 the work required for 1 VF in 3 modes (not counting transformation sequences), which is 1/12 (1/15) the work of 4 (5) VFs!
  6. If you like originality, than M7 has it. A lot of the members here that speak negatively of it do so because they were expecting it to be like SDFM, DYRL, M+, and MII. They also tended to have viewed it in blocks (say 4 to 8 episodes in one viewing). Some supporters of the show have recommended a slower rate (1 episode per day). But to each there own. Nevertheless, back to originality: M7 introduces some concepts that are very important to later series. I don't want to make a list of them (as I don't have the time and don't want to spoil things for you), but let's just leave it at: the influences are both technological and spiritual. Both of them forming the cores of later shows like M0 and MF. EDIT: and to keep this relatively on topic: aside from the basic story and some of the characterizations, I generally enjoyed MII. My tastes have changed in the intervening decades, but I still like some of the original things introduced. The one that sticks out is using the hulls of Zentraadi ships as places to build cities. Quite unique. Alas, it wasn't portrayed in the series as well as it could have been (the same holds true for the Protodevyln, IMHO).
  7. The problem with your suggestion is, that Macross the First and the other Macross manga are not popular enough to support such a business venture. Even with the existing web-manga in Japan (limited to the mobile internet, if memory serves), no one offers a bilingual service. There's simply not enough demand to justify all of the additional expense and hassle (yes, that's right, hassle. Dealing with customers who speak the same language is challenging enough. Dealing with customers in a foreign language? That's quite an expensive proposition.) I sympathize, but on the other hand... how is that different from 10 years ago? Or 30 years ago? I don't think I ever remember hearing someone lamenting that a book or manga wasn't in English... heck, most people were more than satisfied just to have "a" book from the franchise. Oh, how the internet has spoiled so many... Shouldn't be too hard to find that information on the internet. Plenty of firms state their per-word rate on their homepages. Another option is to check your local yellow-pages and make some phone calls. (Before I'm accused of being snippy, kurt, or whatever: I'm in Japan. Whatever price I quote will be in yen. As the yen is comparatively high right now, it'll inflate the relative price. I don't know where the poster is. A local translator to the poster will provide the most relevant information.)
  8. IMHO, despite a lot of people considering, and some even trying to make a game (or a Macross-themed mod to an existing game), all of the projects I have observed stopped before completing a game. Why? They have all been too ambitious. (Understandable given the requirements of the genre - at least 3 modes for each VF, just for starters!) So, my suggestion, to whomever opts to make a Macross-themed game: aim small. My recommendation is (and this came to me after brainstorming: what would be a fun, relatively easy to make game) basing it on a game that I'm enjoying immensely at this time: Cactus McCoy. Instead of a cactus man, it's a giant Zentraadi (or VF-1 in battroid mode). Instead of the badlands of Mexico (or wherever), it's the wastelands of the Earth, after SWI. Sure, it may not be the latest or greatest VFs, and it's only one aspect of the Macross universe. But it's a place to start, and build a team with the skills to make even greater games. The best thing about it is, it's achievable in a relatively short time frame. I wish I had the skills, time and motivation to create the game I'm suggesting... nevertheless, I hope the fundamental advice is taken: aim for a game that's achievable in a short time frame (Macross tetris doesn't look so bad now, eh? Though, probably a Macross themed Puyo-Puyo game would be a bit more satisfyingly original).
  9. Agreed. Even if it's only a small percent, the creators are still getting money from purchases. Creator rights being different in different countries and all。
  10. Maybe he means bosal? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosal (admittedly, that makes no sense in the context.) Or maybe he meant Bothan, you know, from "many Bothans died to bring us this information."?
  11. This is Animation Macross Plus - Variable Fighters Aero Report: Variable Fighter Squadron Marking http://www.macrossro...g37811#msg37811 Little bit too tired to go back and proof read it at the moment... speaking of proofreading, there are a couple of errors in the book (man, this TiA book has a lot of them!). My favourite was 'gun pot'. Another one - one that I'm not 100% certain is an error - is referring to a part of an aircraft's wings as 'the cranial border'! (Translated that one as leading edge...) Random observations: I like how it rounds out the Macross universe a little bit more. The stuff about micronized Zentraadi pilots disliking Regaado in targeting sights on their VFs is fun. Nevertheless, some parts have to be taken with a grain of salt. Even though the stuff on the VA-3 strongly implies that those squadrons were flying the VA-3 during SWI, I think it's a safe bet to say that they were flying VF-1, in the VA role during that war. The SDF-6 that gets mentioned has most likely been retconned to the SDFM-6 (or SDFM-4, as the SDF-1 and 2... exist... ) Also, despite the book not directly stating it, I'm fairly certain that the VT-25 VF-17 colours are one and the same as the VF-17 that can be seen in the Macross Plus movie. Oh... Graham, I found the stuff on the VF-17 squadrons interesting. I hope you do, too.
  12. "shoots" and ladders?
  13. Screw Battleship 2024. I want to make the "Hungry Hungry Hippos Tigerfish" movie! Man... this stuff just writes itself. ... like "Snakes on a Plane".
  14. Operation... hmmm... cross between The Reanimater, Planet Terror (Grindhouse), and the Devil's Advocate (hey, we're talking zombies, right. Might as well add in a malpractice case... with the Devil!) Hungry Hungry Hippos - cross between Anaconda, and the Congo (hippos and water - what says that better than that African river. Though... if I set it there, I'd get sidetracked by the fish that dies from depressurization, and THE Tigerfish. Man... that fish just screams movie: (The guy holding the fish here looks scary, too. Hire him!) Even the babies look mean:
  15. One never knows. It could be so bad that it's good - in a forgettable kinda way. Anyhow, I had fun yesterday mulling over what kind of battleship based movie I'd make. The most intriguing idea was having the aliens kidnapping ships and crews from all historical periods - US, UK, Russia, German, etc. - and forcing them to shoot at each other, with their big guns and no radar, first in a thick fog, then in a nasty alien typhoon or something. You know, can't see exactly where the other fleet is... just like the actual game! I felt it gave the best chance to show a range of naval ships, the big guns firing - a lot! - and some interesting character dynamics. Kinda a cross between that most recent Predators movie and the Philadelphia Experiment. What do you think... should I have gotten the writing job for the movie?
  16. Ordinarily I wouldn't care. The problem is that this nickname you and others are using is exactly the same as another user's ID. Which is an important detail, no? ... especially as that has resulted in another user assuming Sketchley and Sketch were one and the same, blowing up at one or both of us, and ultimately being censured by the board's moderators. So, in this case, it's a rather important detail that could see someone else ending up in hot water. Again. Your nickname has failed. Please choose another.
  17. Approximately 0.000000000000000000000000001%. It's just a phase that this thread was going through until the next question that spawns a debate pops up.
  18. ... and to add confusion, it resurrects one of the Protodevlin who had just died! (Chronologically speaking, that is...)
  19. Great Mechanics #10: M0 article's F-14 Tomcat section: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2304.msg43569#msg43569 Being meaning to do this for a while. Alas, it doesn't add too much more detail (mind you, a LOT more detail than Macross Chronicle attempted!) I was expecting the last half to be entirely about the "Macross Zero" version. Sadly, only two paragraphs are about it...
  20. Hammered out Mechanic SDFM Zent 06a: Furubusu Barennsu class today: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2854.0 Man oh man, completely forgot about the self-growing hull, internal factories, rest facilities and the huge park that reproduces the Protoculture homeworld. Nevermind about the fact that these ships last more than 300,000 cycles and the implication that up to 3,000 main fleets remain in the galaxy!
