  1. Yeah, it reminds me of the hyper-detailed VF-1 statues you see for sale for 600 bucks on BBTS. They're detailed and well-painted, but the aesthetic is a complete mismatch IMO. I am kind of interested in the soldier mode cockpit, but I have a weird hang-up about cockpit orientations in transforming fighters and I like seeing manufacturers do the mechanics of making them functional. Dunno if that's enough to get me over my distaste for the RT brand/HG.
  2. I also didn't realize he was 70. Just seemed eternally youthful to me. In addition to the ones people have mentioned, he did a great heel turn as Pavel on Tron: Uprising.
  3. Man, this latest round of announcements was such word salad, I genuinely thought they were trying their hand at animated projects as well (god knows the live-action stuff hasn't been going anywhere since Tobey Maguire still had star power and was potentially attached to the project). Maybe I just read too much into them resurrecting the Robotech II brand for the latest round of toys.
  4. They haven't been honest about it since it was announced, why start now? (Though in all fairness, with the WGA on strike they probably can't get any more bargain basement story treatments to pretend that the project isn't dead on arrival.) HG definitely wouldn't be WGA, but their writing would fall under TAG if they were doing union animated productions. I would wager pretty much any sum of money they'd be non-union if they ever got around to making anything, though. They had standard voice talent on Shadow Chronicles, so most of those guys have SAG cards, but generally actors can work on TAG/non-union animated productions without it being considered crossing picket lines. This is all moot because - as you both have noticed - this is just a smokescreen for the fact that HG doesn't have anything. I'm just confirming it's not any strike-related activity holding HG back.
  5. Ha, I did the same thing. Honestly, it was cool to be able to walk into a store, see a shelf full of Chogokins, and pick one up and take it to the register like a normal consumer product. No pre-order madness, no shipping, etc. I'm actually glad I did because the blue really works on the YF-29. Probably my favorite paint scheme on it now.
  6. Bobbypills did the opening, they're a French vendor. That'd be the only link I could come up with. The showrunner/EP was the SD on Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus and most of the crew was regular Burbank animation people, no cross-over there either.
  7. Well, that was too good a springboard to pass up.
  8. IIRC, that's just the neck cover for GERWALK mode. I checked @jenius' site to be sure, and you can see an image of it here on the VF-19A. I love the YF-19/VF-19, but it unfortunately has my least favorite GERWALK mode of any variable fighter, so I can't say I've ever used it myself, haha. Hate how the arms sit on top of the wings.
  9. Now you can have that experience, officially from Bandai!
  10. Yeah, keeping the fold booster/armor packs would have definitely lessened the sting. I would mutter about them removing the missiles/cannon, but I'd still buy it. Much less tempted with everything removed. I feel like they wanted to remove everything to make the extra "full set pack" tempting enough to buy, but then knowing Bandai they will then proceed to never sell that pack.
  11. Guess an extender clip for fighter mode so the gunpod doesn't have to bend in the middle was too much to hope for. Neither's a great option, but the bending gunpod on my VF-19A always particularly irked me. Lack of extras is a real downer, too. Delaying the YF-21 for a WMM release does make a lot of sense in hindsight, though, if that's their plan. M+ was more popular over here than it was in Japan IIRC.
  12. I'd justify my distaste by saying it's not very lineart accurate (and it's not), but really, I think it's just an ugly, unpainted part right in the front of the VF. Weirdly, I actually think it's the one spot where the Renewal is a step backwards from the V1 - I think the V1's plate is both more accurate to the artwork and more visually appealing. It's not a huge sin and I love the VF-25 despite it, but it's definitely the place I would have refined a bit given the opportunity.
  13. Yeah, seemed like the obvious place to give us a fix. Guess they had to leave room for the Re-re-renewal in ten years.
  14. Had HLJ open and ready to go, was able to snag one. I've have good luck with HLJ the past couple years with Chogokin releases. AmiAmi has a delayed release but I think I've only been lucky once at AmiAmi with a Chogokin release for years.
  15. My problem with the Arcadia/DX conundrum is that for every flaw on the DX, there's an equal flaw on the Arcadia. The gap at the knee in fighter on the Arcadia bugs me, the gaps around the shield on the DX bug me, the indentations on the legs on the Arcadia bug me, the angled gun pod on the DX in fighter bugs me... They're both great efforts but it's hard to give a recommendation because it really gets down into the minutia with the differences, and the compromises I'm willing to live with may be dealbreakers for someone else. I don't think I saw anyone mention it yet, but be careful with the head laser on the DX YF-19 if that's the route you take; a lot of them had broken head lasers out of the box.
  16. I got to work with him on a couple shows that he did VA work for, though I only directly interacted with him once. He was a super chill dude. I'm a big Destiny player as well and they're going to have a really hard time filling those shoes; Zavala was kind of the narrative backbone of the game. He was a huge fan of the game, too; the voice-over vids he did for fans were a ton of fun. Anyways, this one definitely hit me. Big fan of his work and he was way too young. Just really sad all around.
  17. I'm honestly shocked they're not constantly milking this mold. Four years ago I figured I'd have a Roy DYRL, a Max/Milia, and two more missile packs at least by this point. Are they just that afraid of hitting a shelf-warmer? I can never figure out the economics of these things.
  18. It was so, so stupid. The starship equivalent of "stop hitting yourself!"
  19. I have to admit I enjoyed the first two episodes of season 3 as dumb cast reunion material. My partner and I finished S1 but stopped S2 after the first couple eps, and after those two seasons even the schlocky S3 was comparatively pretty decent (or at least, the A plot was; not even Worf could salvage the B plot with Raffi). Crusher was also my favorite from TNG, so it was nice seeing her on-screen again. Episode three was so bad, though. I went in with basement level expectations and Picard still found a way under them. The gravity portal gun probably would have made for a great stupid episode of Lower Decks, because it made me laugh out loud every time it got used.

Oh man, I'd go nuts for a Chogokin VF-2SS. I don't think the HMR sold well enough? Still gonna dream, though!

The Nexx has his specific gunpod and an accompanying armor part that lets him store it. Paint's obviously different, pilot is different but also wrong, IIRC? I think he looked like Hibiki's civilian Valk flightsuit. I actually really like the VF-2SS and I think the HMR is a pretty sweet toy, but the heatshield annoyingly doesn't close all the way in battroid mode unless you remove the cockpit canopy. Just a couple minor gripes to be aware of. Also, you really probably want a Tamashii stage act trident stand if you want to display it with the bits. It looks great with all the bits displayed, but it's an extra ~40 bucks probably so you might want to price that out first.
  22. I haven't had a chance to read the manga yet but I picked the TR-6 up just based on how cool it looks. It's a neat kit, I second the recommendation! Incredibly detailed for how small it is.
  23. As someone who just never really had the time to pursue modeling/painting to the degree I'd like (other hobbies have always taken priority), this stuff just blows my mind. Incredible work, fascinating to watch the progress pics!
  24. Mike McMahan was apparently born in 1962, which makes me a very bad judge of age because I assumed 1972.
