  1. Ha, I actually bought a Beagle Stick from Mandarake last year (so many 2020 stress purchases), and he's still in the box because I know that as soon as I take him out, the fabric will disintegrate. I'm very much not a MISB person but it's a little different with a guaranteed failure like this. The fabric looks pretty decent at a glance, but you can see the cracks formed even in the box.
  2. Same here. Honestly, it's a minor thing but I hate opening up the G. Danger to get to the batteries to remove them when I'm not going to be displaying the jaeger for a while, and then it's another thing floating around in my parts bin. The gimmick is never as cool as I want it to be to be worth the trouble/price. My memory isn't great, but I remembering watching one of @jenius' videos and the Kitz Concept VF-1's lights were a huge pain to turn on and off, too. The access to the light has to be accessible but not visible and designers seem to struggle with that.
  3. I have a Soul of Chogokin Gipsy Danger that has lights, but yeah, the DX Chogokin line has never had them to my knowledge. Lights in the wings in a mass-produced transformable fighter would seem like they'd be a huge pain. GD had the benefit of being non-transformable.
  4. I pre-ordered the Ivanov Sv-51, got one with bum ankles, sent it back, and was too scared to order another for a long time. It hung around at discount on the secondary market for a while, and I eventually got it for a discount. I might do the same with Nora, or just skip. The Sv-51 is really nice, but it's rather pricey. I highly doubt it's going to suffer from the pre-order madness that the GBP did; usually Arcadia units are pretty easy to snag in comparison. The Ivanov was pretty easy to pre-order if memory serves.
  5. The only issue I ever had with AmiAmi was when I had to return my Sv-51 because of the mismatched ankles. Returns there are really obnoxious. I still order most of my stuff through them, though, and they've always been super reliable delivering. I've never had an issue with HLJ, CDJapan, and Big In Japan either (other than that I wish BIJ would change their URL ). I'm never ordering from N-Y again, though; after a VF-1S and then especially the super parts fiasco, I'd rather just buy on ebay.
  6. Seconding this: I would 100% wait until release before ordering with NY. The secondary market markup isn't that much on these if you buy right at release, I've found. Sometimes it's honestly pretty close to retail. There were so many strike parts available on ebay for basically the same price I paid at NY when I was struggling to get them to respond to my e-mails about my strike parts.
  7. That's what it looks like - going to be terrified of losing those guys.
  8. Yeah I thought we'd get a day between the full announcement and pre-orders, dang. Guess I'll try for the set next week, dunno if I really need two VF-1Js though.
  9. I honestly don't remember any differences between the SDFM/DYRL GBP set, but the GBP set is barely in the movie so it's kind of hard to play spot-the-difference. I figure it'll just be the usual differences in the underlying Valk?
  10. I know it's canon in the show, but it never fails to make me laugh. I always assume it's another, smaller Shockwave, who in turn has his own small Shockwave.
  11. Haha, yeah, I pre-ordered it yesterday and they sure did take my money/send a confirmation e-mail, so they're pretty committed to the bit if it's an April Fools. Also, just doing a full, colored and molded plastic toy would be pretty heavy commitment on its own. I'm a little worried it'll be top-heavy with that big backpack and narrow legs/feet, but the design itself is pretty rad.
  12. In other MOSPEADA related news, from T-Rex Toys' twitter: Google Translate: Hopefully good signs for Houquet's Ride Armor? I'd hate for her to have a prototype teased twice, just to not go through to production.
  13. Who wants a look at the Iota?
  14. I have three VF-171s (Alto's EX, Luca's RVF, and a cannon fodder). No Maruyama, but I can give you my experience with the others. Alto I've transformed a few times, it's actually been very reliable - no broken parts, no yellowing, etc. The transformation's a pain in the butt, however, so after the last transformation I decided to just leave it in battroid. I never transformed Luca's, because the battroid looks super wonky on that one, but it's been very solid in fighter. I got the cannon fodder this last year to leave in fighter mode, and it had broken triangles out of the box (I paid extra for an unopened box) and was literally disintegrating in my hands as I tried to transform it just enough to put on the super parts and transform it back. So my take is that the white 171s are generally fine (I actually like my Alto 171EX quite a bit, despite the frustrating transformation), and the Maruyama one should be the same if that's the one you want to grab. I'd avoid the cannon fodder unless you really like the design and are okay with it being damaged - I don't think there are any CF's without broken triangles at this point.
  15. I think there's also a weird market fracturing going on between the TV and DYRL releases. I prefer the DYRL designs and I figure it's a safe bet Bandai will eventually get around to milking the mold for most of the main cast, so I took a pass on the TV Roy. DYRL is much more popular in Japan compared to the show, as I understand it?
  16. I re-watched it recently with a friend and honestly, it's a lot better than I remember it? Like you, I had a lot of fondness for it since it was the first proper anime I bought on VHS, but I was unsure how the friend would respond. They liked it well enough, though. It's also very specifically my early 90s aesthetic jam, so the great animation,* designs, and the over-exposed blue is doing a lot more to carry the show than how much I like Hibiki as a character. *Block out the animation in the sixth episode when they ran out of money.
  17. I got a Ring a little bit after the start of pandemic, mainly because my doorbell was busted but also because I don't live in a great area and I wanted insurance in case anything got stolen. I found out that most delivery services weren't even trying to ring the doorbell - DHL just hurls my expensive Valks at my door, takes a photo, then takes off. Forget waiting for a signature, it'd be great if they'd just ring the doorbell to let me know I had a delivery so it wasn't sitting on my porch. We were lucky enough to score a PS5 a couple weeks ago and they just left it there, in the clearly marked PS5 box, without ringing the bell. It's insane.
  18. Every time I went to Comic-con the last few years (not 2020, obviously), I'd get a bunch of friends texting me that they had Macross merch in the exhibit hall. I'd have to keep explaining that no, despite the logo, it was Robotech merch and I wasn't going to give HG any money. It helps that there's rarely any HG-branded stuff that isn't terrible. I don't know how much of it is that the Macross brand is finally starting to outpace the RT brand over here, or that HG's stunts are more widely known and the Robotech brand is more toxic than it used to be. Maybe a bit of both. Random aside: a show I worked on once had its premiere party at the Harmony Gold Theater.
  19. There are two Southern Cross LPs, actually: https://www.discogs.com/ja/Yuji-Dan-Haruhiko-Wada-Ken-Satoh-超時空騎団サザンクロス-シャワーコロン-Southern-Cr/release/5515847 (I picked this one up as a Christmas gift for my partner since we were enjoying Southern Cross and both like vinyl) https://www.discogs.com/Yuji-Dan-Haruhiko-Wada-Ken-Sato-Super-Dimension-Cavalry-Southern-Cross-II/release/8543132 Honestly, it's a good soundtrack for the time, even if it wears very thin about halfway through the series. Opening song is still a banger, though.
  20. Awesome write-up on Optus Pexus, Mike. I'm looking forward to mine arriving - BBTS has been slow getting stuff my way; I only got the Mnemo/Motif two-pack last week. I loved how Milne interpreted the design in MTMTE, so I've been really excited for this one.
  21. Mine kept getting stuck halfway in and I was convinced I was doing something wrong and was going to mar the plastic on the fighter. Once it got in there, it was super solid though.
  22. I checked my VF-4A's gunpod versus my Arcadia VF-1S and the 1S definitely had a noticeably fatter handle. I figured that it was easier for them to shave off the handle to make it work with the existing slot in the VF-4 than it was to adjust the slot in the VF-4, but if the Yamato mold was the slimmer handle, then maybe that wasn't the case? I don't have any Yamato VF-1s to compare, unfortunately.
