Good images Grebo, these look more gundamesque to me with a bit of Kawamori style Starscream rehash. I like them. Does this guy have any more images ?
-
Thanks for the pictures guys. The Gouf has always had me thinking of what the love child of a Samurai and a medievil English suit of armor would look like. I suppose that is because its supposed to.

All that from regular snacks boxes. The more pictures you post the more Im impressed. Im thinking snack boxes and Cornflakes boxes are our friends now certainly cheaper than Styrene sheets. Also easier to get passed the missus as she buys the things anyway.

Hmmm good question. From most of the software we have tried in the office at work (inc games) possibly no. Vista looks good but is a real white elephant as far as legacy stuff is concerned. I have a workstation with Vista I`ll put it on over the weekend and give it a go.

Thanks so 1/100 is about the size of a 1/72 hasegawa ish. Im gonna keep checking this thread as I like what I see. Please could posters put the name of the kit and the size if posible so the less knowledgeable (me) know what it`s all about. Thanks

When I first saw this thread I thought of the same image. Glad that someone thought and posted too.

Thats a really good job you did there. Seems natural. Is there a chance to get this other than on Youtube. With Youtube arent you limmited by file size, It would be great to have this at DVD quality. Im sure with the software and your skills it could be done. I know that I have some software that can do it, with dual layer disks too. Once again Great job.

If you do make em all mystery so theres no chance of favoratisum. We can just pic the one that sounds right.

Thanks for the help guys. I totally got it wrong on the model number. Atleast acording to the tech data at the web link above it says they fitted it with a head from a 78. I got that bit right How tall are 1/144 scales ? When built Macross 1/44 scale is tiny less than 7 cm tall mostly. I was hoping for somthing arround the size of a 1/72 hasegawa I will have to look out for the new kits..... I feel a wallet purge comming on.

True. Another couple of laps cant hurt though. I honestly thought there wasnt much in between Gundam and Macross on the age front. thanks for clearing it up for me.

Im the first to admit when it come to Gundam I dont have much idea about who`s who. I have managed to keep clear of Gundam as I know it will be another thing to collect if I get too into it. A while ago in Japan I got some Gundam Gashapon toys. AFAIK they are variants of the 78 or 178. They have all been painted up properly as some of the colours and all pannelines etc were missing. I was thinking about getting a mastergrade kit of one of the figures I have as I really like it. The problem is I havent a clue as to what its designation is. I think its a 178 Freedom but like I say I dont have a really good idea. Can you guys who know help me out, point me at the kit that I need or the nearest version in a 1/100 scale. [attachmentid=38170] This is the start on the slippery slope that is Gundam collecting.

Well for ages now I`ve skipped past this thread thinking nah you wont want to look at it.... I checked it out today as I had some time due to me from work, All I can say is wow, You do realise that you have already got past the standard that RowblowDreck left us all in the 80`s. All that and your not even finished. I`d love to be able to help you in some way although as English people tend to get cast as bad guys due to the supposed posh sounding voices theres probably not much room in DYRL for me. You mentioned that your using sound affects from other Anime and such, are there any areas that you missing in. Maybe you could post here and MW users could help out. I for one have more than my far share of SF and anime DVD`s etc. I also have some sound processing Software. I have a dat recorder so could get some real life sounds on my travels for you too if you like.

Im happy to see any comemarative stuff, be it new series remakes, reboxed, reissued, or even just a keychain. Anything made or done just shows us that the manufacturers and producers of Macross are still interested. Gundam has lasted almost as long and it`s still popular so why cant Macross be just as popular. Maybe it is time for a bit of reinvention. RowblowDrege are pumping out more dross so Macross should be heading them off at the pass.

They are 1/144 scale approx and they are the Kaiyoda Gashapon set, Should be still available from HLJ if you want to buy a box of em.

Well I missed that Dont know how as I check eBay regularly. Had I noticed it that low it would now be mine.

With that done the rest of the backpack needed modding. The wings had the small cast marks filled. The part where the splash gard (for the rocket engines) is not big enough, this is one of those parts that had to be slimmed down to allow the transformation of the 1/55. So I chopped it off and made one to the right scale instead. [attachmentid=37992] Gonna need the cut off bit for the next stage. [attachmentid=37993] Teh bit on the top of the back pack has always had a similar molded part to the bottom end. The Hasegawa and Yamies have this as a flat grill type bit. Step in the cut off splash guard, trimmed to size. [attachmentid=37994] There thats bettter you can also see the drill holes for the retros and the small recessed bit on the top next to the dome. Next the wings, on the bootlegs the part on the wings where the stripe would be is recessed I could fill it but this would take ages and as I have loads of 1mm styrene much quicker to do provided it dont use too much cement . [attachmentid=37995] Filled and work in progress. The back of the wings needed the same treatment as the tail wings. Now onto the head. Originally I was going to merge the 1/55 Bandai and Boot head. After a lot of measuring and such I changed my mind. [attachmentid=37996] I cut the neck part off as this is all wrong. Next up is the eye this is too big on the boot and set too far forward. I just filed it down and have cut it to fit. now all I have to do is build up the Chin and make a neck. more pictures to follow. Thanks for keeping the faith guys.

OMG almost a month since my last progress report. Sorry for the lack of news. Ok the torso was next on my list of things to mod or nealy wreck in this case. The back part of the torso that eh wings attach too is not something pretty on the bootleg, its not that much better on a Takka or Bandai. look at the picture below to see what I mean. See the 1/55 boot lined up against a more acurate 1/72 Hasegawa. [attachmentid=37983] Now I measured up and worked out how much needs to chopped. [attachmentid=37984] You can see the marks I made for chopping. [attachmentid=37985] The chopped part with the edges cut on the inside as well. [attachmentid=37986] Add two of these to cover those gastly casting points. And DOH!!!! This is why you should not use too much liquid cement on thin Styrene. [attachmentid=37987] I almost cried. all is not lost as a bit of filler will fix it, just a bit of work I could do without. [attachmentid=37988] Here you can see where I built it up to match the Hasegawa part more closely. Still some way to go but it`s getting there. [attachmentid=37989] The flipside of the same part with the largely unseen rear side. While that was drying I turned my attention to the back pack. this is one area that does need only a little bit of work IMO. Now on a working 1/55 there is a trade off between acuracy and functionality. Well as i dont need tranformation I can do some changes. [attachmentid=37990] The backpack along side the Boot fast pack clip. The holes on it have always bothered me (even on the Taka etc. One redeeming point to note the Bootlegs have the dome bulge (not sure what its called) but its not big enough for acutate 1/55. [attachmentid=37991] Thats better.

I agree. Now the fact that it transforms is really impressive. Now Yamato should see it. If a bunch of guys can make one out of off cuts of wood in a garage, Just think what Yamato can do.

Thanks for the pointers Devin, just another thing I had to learn about P.Shop Tried it makes it so much easier. before I had just used the flood fill not as good by a long way. AFAIK the DP 5000 is also out of production, but OKI are quite good with support of older models added to the fact that as they are popular in offices in the U.K at least means you will probably be o.k for a while on carts add that to the big market of after market patern carts the future could be bright, the world could be a much brighter place at least for Macross decals anyhow.

Thanks for the pointers Devin, your right about file sizes Last year I did a magazine cover and the file was just under a gig when in the memory and still a few hundred mb when on the HD. Took arround 10 mins to load it. Good job I got some extra ram. I got hold of a copy of Illustrator CS and had a bit of a play. I have Paintshop and also another vector program (Serif draw plus I think I may have something worth looking at soon. The tape trick makes sence, luckily with a 1/55 there arent many corners. Gonna rescan my Wave decals and try em on the printer next week. not going to bother with the Hasegawa one as its too much bother to get rid of the blue back ground properly.

Thanks for the detailed insight Fly4victory. I had a feeling that the inkjet stuff would be like that. A few years ago I made some inkjet stickers for 1/10 scale RC cars and these were just as problematic. The ink stayed on but when it gets wet it just comes off. Add a coating in this case ultra thin sticky clear vinyl and it didnt have the wet problems but the decals were thick and didnt always conform to the lexan shell of the car. I am gonna try the laser printer way and see if that is any better. Im currently working on a sheet for a 1/55. Im drawing it in a vector based file type so it can be hopefully scaled and not loose quality. There are some other printer Makes that do the same as the Alps namely the OKI DP 5000 (Devin mentioned this one) and the Citizen Printiva range. The Oki printer takes the same Carts as the Alps do so im sure that while Alps may not make carts any more there will be scores of patern carts out there for some time to come.

I like what I see. The dirty look is great. Clean aircraft are for museums.

Well I checked your website and I like what I see. Didnt realise that moding Hotwheels was so big. My friend collects them much to his GF`s anoyance, they are everywhere in the house. Man I have one of the Beach Bombes from back in the day when I was a kid (early 80`s) didnt realise they still made em. Oh and I signed up for your email too. Trouble is now Im looking at my old toy cars and thinking about how I can mod em. Is that a good or bad thing
