  1. So I've been following this thread for a while and only now thought to ask for confirmation: Is this the same as JasonC's Ghost X-9 project? I had assumed it was, with this thread being on the CAD side and his the production side.
  2. For what it's worth, I don't consider that exactly "weathering." It just looks like some pre/post-shading work, which isn't meant to mimic weathering effects so much as... well, add shading. It breaks up otherwise largely monotonous color apps. Like, if I wanted weathering on my (hypothetical, sadly) 19, I'd add streaks to the wings (running back from along the forward edges and panel lines) emulating the desert sand/dirt flowing across them, and/or drybrush along the sharpened angles to simulate sand blasting at the paint, etc. And that's before you whip out the dremel and start gouging at the plastic of your $300 toy...
  3. Copy-paste the URLs or highlight image link (on Denied page) in address bar and press Enter. It just doesn't allow hotlinking from other websites.
  4. So are you talking about mainstream as in "mainstream mecha-wise"? I thought you meant mainstream just in general. Even then I thought it's sort of always been second place to Gundam in widespread appeal. A distant second, for sure, because Gundam is Gundam, but still, I thought it was already fairly mainstream in that regard. Yay/nay?

    Bandai DX VF-31

Oh cripes, you're probably right. I'm mixing it up with the Frontier naming scheme. Will double check. EDIT: Yep, my bad. Completely mixed it up.

    Bandai DX VF-31

For what it's worth, there are apparently two different Fs, one in blue piloted by Hayate, the other by another Delta member(?). Can't grab the pic as I'm on the phone, but there should be one of the design on the post Tochiro shared. (Part of the Mecha Collection kits.)
  7. I thought Macross already WAS mainstream? Given Frontier's blowout success on the music charts. And Delta looks to be doing the same, what with Ikenai Borderline already seeing similar success/popularity.
  8. Anyone with better Japanese can give me the summary of Points 1-4?
  9. Ah, I see. That's quite nice-looking, and I can definitely understand the upcharge now. For that level of detail and precision, I'd charge a pretty penny, too.
  10. What's the scope of these kits? Transformable/parts-swap model kits? LED gimmicks? I'm not seeing what they offer that the Hasegawa offerings don't.

    Bandai DX VF-31

Forget the DXes and model kits, can I have that?
  12. You need to make it levitate. And oscillate. And rotate. And all of this needs to be remote controlled. Only then will your skills be considered adequate.
  13. Oh boy. Get the probably more solid and way cheaper but smaller fighter mode kits, or wait two months and get the bigger but less stable new kit? And I'm still itching to get one of the old 25s, too... EDIT: But man, those huge wing joints...
  14. No cannon fodder 31? Dang. Everything else is looking sweet, though. All those panel line details... EDIT: Seems the release dates are...? Apr 2016 - VF-171 - VF-31J (Hayate) May 2016 - VF-31S - SV-262 Jun 2016 - VF-31E TBD - VF-31C - VF-31F I dunno the pilot names. Feel free to correct any wrong guesses I've made.
  15. According to the discussion here, Vermilion TEAM is a part of Skull Squadron. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/?showtopic=7015 That being said, Macross canon is as flexible as taffy, so for all we know, there IS a Vermilion Squadron and the typo on the model kit is not a typo at all. EDIT: I'd like to know, too. Assuming you're in the US, you've got one heck of a hobby shop.
  16. Bare VF-1: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10127265/10/0 Super/Strike VF-1: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10242344/10/0 From the instructions it looks like the two wings have a gear-linked swing mechanism (same as the 1/72 kits).
  17. Is the base connector secure like that? If I remember correctly, you have to insert it onto the base from the rear and slide it forward for a secure connection. Love the clean work, though, and especially the asymmetrical decaling. Will you be making the shield as well, or was that intentionally omitted?
  18. Completely by-hand scratch build? Or are you printing a few parts as well? Either way, good luck and godspeed. Also, transformable or fighter mode only? Also also, it doesn't seem like the 1X is different in overall appearance from the original design. Were all upgrades limited to only materials/internal components?
  19. To be more specific, the Max/Miria kit is a standard Super VF-1J Gerwalk in white/gray with a decal sheet specific to the two of them (mostly a few stripes here and there). I don't know about articulation, but I'd imagine it's similar to Hasegawa's battroid kits, ie articulated enough in the major joint areas. As for the Bandai VF-1, your assessment seems to be correct (I haven't built it either and don't intend to). If you want to play with your model, it's the kit for you... but even then it's so flimsy and delicate as to undermine itself. I haven't built the older VF-25 kits, but I'd imagine that they're a bit more rugged (just a bit) simply by virtue of being bigger.
  20. Ooh, I'm liking the all blue way more than I thought I would. Looks very nice, will definitely be getting this.
  21. Geez, Lolicon. With that preshading (post-shading?) skill and effort, why not build those kits you're stealing the decals from?
  22. Quick question: Is the YF-19 paint scheme based on any real-world paint schemes (prototype craft or otherwise) a la Skull squadron, or unique? The -21 has heavy Blue Angels inspiration it seems, but I'm less sure about the -19.
  23. Considering the price, the Bandai one does seem the sounder proposition. ~10,000 yen lower retail for comparable product and more extras... But look at where the two companies are coming from (Bandai the big dog, Arcadia the smaller company taking greater relative risk), and the price differential is arguably understandable. Still, Arcadia doesn't project the image of a smaller-scale maker the way, say, Evolution Toys does, or at least not to me, so the upcharge for less and potentially lower quality content seems less justifiable. But then again I of course don't buy this stuff anyway so my opinion hardly matters at the end of the day.
