  1. I was wondering, if I were to buy a VF-171 CF brand new with no intention of transforming it, but plan to attach the armored parts in its fighter mode, would I encounter any triangle problems?
  2. I would like to know the story behind the VF-19's limited production numbers(not as high as VF-1 or VF-11). It beated the YF-21 in being the next generation fighter(as a concept model or mainstay). The VF-19A was very high performance and required highly skilled pilots to operate and hence was deployed in limited numbers. The modified F and S types were simplified with the canards removed and wings changed. However, it was still too high performance and difficult to control and eventually the VF-171 took the spot as mainstay. So if we go by high low mix, the VF-11 got replaced by the VF-171, while the VF-17 got replaced by both the VF-19 and VF-22, with the VF-19 still being considered to replace the VF-11 but failed. The VF-19 was formally adopted in 2041, and the VF-171 had its first flight in 2046, one year after the events of Macross 7 (2045). VF-1(2008) lasted less than 10 years, being replaced by the VF-4(2012) and later the VF-5000(2020). The VF-11 began production in 2029 and the VF-171 was introduced in 2046, with the EX upgrade in 2059. So each mainstay lasted around 10 to 15 years.
  3. Triangles good or bad? As good as Alto/Luca, better, or worse?
  4. Glad that I bought multiple copies. It certainly has a different vibe from the VF-25s. Doesn't have the overly curved design of post 2005 Kawamori, it has the 90s prime of Kawamori design traits.
  5. I will be at Osaka in August for two days, and the museum is an hour away from there. Meanwhile, I will attend the Okawara exhibition in Tokyo. So my first trip to Japan will get both Okawara and Kawamori covered, the designers of my 80s mecha.
  6. Okay, thanks for defining the heavy VFs. With respect to uptime, I also noticed that in Macross 7, the VF-17s and 19s did not have to sortie with a space super pack for regular deployment, whereas the VF-11s had to have them. OF course, this meant the two high performance crafts had enough fuel and a couple of internal missiles. Likewise, the VF-25 always sortied with a FAST pack on(super, armored or tornado), and it is contrasted with the VF-27 which has some integrated super pack already due to its extra engines and missile launchers. So adopting the simplified heavy fighter VF-171 as a mainstay fleet defense fighter makes sense if they want something that doesn't require super pack for standard space borne operations.
  7. I was wondering what makes the VF-17 series classified as a heavy fighter? If it is due to the internal weapons, than even the VF-4 and VF-22 have a substantial amount of them. The VF-171 series could attach extra weapons via its armored pack with minimal increase to the size of its fuselage, unlike the Armored VF-25.
  8. That must be the fattest box ever, even more so than the VF-27 Super and RVF-25.
  9. Will wait for reviews before buying. I think even Alto's Luca's had some triangle issues.
  10. Yes, that must be the Hamaval scheme. It appears that they always have two NUNS VF-171EXs flanking them. The default scheme for the player unit is an "actual combat realistic gray". The game looks very smooth in terms of the transformations. Will get a second hand copy when I go to Japan.
  11. No visuals. It is an enemy unit that isn't playable. I would presume the colour scheme is identical to Rod's YF-29B Percival. Hamaval is the special task force he belongs to.
  12. I was wondering, is the white of the VF-171EX easy to yellow? How about the VF-25 Alto?

    Hi-Metal R

That is the very reason that I avoid Yamato's line or most transforming toys for that matter. Hi Metal is relatively tolerable and simple enough to be treated as a playable toy. The VF-25 and YF-29, as well as Arcadia's VF-0 are the only transformables that I like as the original character was CG to begin with, making it easier to translate into 3D toys. The VF-19 is not too bad either.
  14. If the YF-29B sells well, they may do a VF-19 Hamaval color from Macross 30, unless they just want to focus on Hi-Metal R.
  15. Speaking of necromancy, there is a lot of stock for Metal Build Gold Frame Amatsu on amiami, CDJapan and even amazon.co.jp.

    Hi-Metal R

But did Yamato v2s have a retractable gimmick for the battroid wings?
  17. Hehe. The character explanation says that under atmosphere, it actually had better air combat capability than the ISC equipped VF-25 according to unofficial/undisclosed combat trials. It also says a reserve unit was built. So it is okay to buy more than one. But even the VF-25s all had at least one reserve unit since Alto's and Michel's got shot down at least once.

    Hi-Metal R

Oh its says it comes with "small wings" which is the retracted form of the wings for battroid form. I am not sure whether this was ever in the previous Hi-Metals or even in Yamato's toys.

    Hi-Metal R

I will be interested to see if there will be any matte or gloss coating on these new Hi-Metal Rs.
  20. Better than making it 35th anniversary of the overall franchise, which is good. 25th anniversary Frontier marked a new generation, and Delta should just be a sequel within this generation.

    Hi-Metal R

Pre-order madness. Head is new sculpt.
  22. I am going to keep one in fighter and one sealed. The battroid is gorgeous though, but my rule is to not have multiples and will depict multiple modes across the various colour schemes of the same VF model. Sadly there may not be other VF-19s by Bandai, unless they go the Macross 30 route.
  23. I would laugh if they reissue this. But then there is no need since the production numbers were a lot higher than the VF-25 and YF-29, and the line has established its reputation already.
  24. Wow, within 3 days Amazon.co.jp price has jumped from 26000 to 28000.
