Ahoy-hoy: As an attempt to resume modeling in my new hobby area, I've brushed the dust off an old project. Back before the Revoltech Regult came out, I pulled out my old Arii 1/100 model and gave it a look. I remember being dissatisfied with the Scout Regult I'd built as a kid (long since lost to time... ) and decided to modify this one. I sawed off most of the joints, and scavenged ball joints from my bits box. The result is a much nicer pose for this piece. At present, I'm cleaning up the seam lines, and smoothing out some of the testor's primer that I used on it. On some pieces, I like the pebbly look it gives, as though the pieces were cast. Kind of like an M4 tank. I'm trying to decide if it's worth figuring out a way to keep the guns poseable or not. Then, it'll be time for a new coat of paint.

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie

Eh, the biggest problem I have with this is the same one I have with all the VF-24 descendants: the battroid wings. The naked VF-25 looks OK, but the others all look too low-slung in battroid mode. Like they have less of a backpack and more of a fanny-pack. It works alright on the VF-27, b/c the wings fold up, and the 3 toe foot looks like it's designed to compensate for the extra weight. The 25's armor pack practically drags the floor. I was hoping the YF-29's wings would fold up like the 27. Further more, I can't tell: Is the cockpit completely exposed when you put the guns up? -
Looks pretty cool with the shoulder cannons.

Wow, I'm digging the design more and more. I think the face is similar to a VF-1J, but better looking than the 25F. Depending on how I like it in the movie, and how the back looks, I might try to get one of these. Definitely, if it'll help nudge them toward a version 2 of the VF-25. -

as awful as those deculture paintjobs look, it's interesting to note the Mayan Bird-Human glyph on Sheryl's.

Any other "Thing" fans out there?

Another reason to revere Master Cheng. That fraking rocks, man - congrats. Hopefully, after the movie comes out, you can share some tender nuggets of info with us. Is this why we haven't seen any buildups lately? I'm excited to see where they take this. A big part of my faith (at least hope) is everything I've heard about using practical effects. It's what keeps the JC version creepy. I Netflixed it recently and the effects don't look dated. Nowadays, it's ALL CG, and it's hard to suspend disbelief. -
Caprica! Dynasty Meets BSG

Yeah, it would have been nice to see those things gradually develop. I really would have liked to see more of Lacy's takeover of the Monos. 'Course, any excuse to see more of her is a good thing... What I still wish we HAD seen was what set the cylons apart from being just robots. For the first half of the show, Zoe was the only U87 that worked at all. Then suddenly, they all were functional and getting secretly exported. Even at the end, they required Daniel's control to function completely. How did they go from that to "differently sentient?" Nice term, btw. That's what all of us really wanted to see anyway! A few hints would have been nice, crammed into the script at the last minute. Ah well, one of many, many strings left dangling... Final thoughts: It was nice to see a cylon sporting some armor ("Sarge"), rather than just running around as a nigh-invulnerable endoskelton. Also, what was the deal with Willie Adama? Was it always supposed to be a "What a twist!!" moment? Maybe the age math didn't add up? Or did they realize many BSG fans didn't think the Old Man began as this whiny kid? (Call it the Anakin Syndrome) -
Nice try, CLU - I'm onto you...

It's not the cyberspace that I was referring to. That is definitely a cool venue for story telling, and can be used well (GITS, Matrix 1, etc) or poorly (Armageddon: the Final Challenge). The nature of artificial intelligence, traversing a virtual world where the rule are different - neat stuff. It's the concept of the programs as little people - when I press (M) a little guy runs over to others and places the letter in a row... That's kinda silly. I still like both movies though. I try not to think about it too much, because that leads to questions like: Why is it raining? Nightclubs for Programs? Why are they eating green beans? On movies like this, I usually employ the MST3K philosophy, "If you're wondering how he eats and breathes, and other science facts; then repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax." Actual question, though: I had gotten the impression that the "games" punishment for Programs in the original Tron were like being put into an arcade game. That their actions determined what was portrayed on screen at Flynn's arcade in the real world. This was just my impression, not verified by anything but my own young logic. Did anyone else feel that way about the old film? In the new one, it seemed that the games were played simply as a Roman gladitorial sport for the entertainment of other programs.

I could buy it a little more if it was the YF-26... -
Agree with this point - it also seemed like Tron was underutilized in the movie and that While the whole story is based on a silly concept my grandma might have thought of (there's little people in the computer doing what you ask!!), I appreciated that this movie was a logical outgrowth of the original film.

I thought the story was pretty well in line with the original. Not great, or deep, but sufficient to showcase the visuals. I wish I could have seen the original recently, but it seems tricky to find. Designs were beautiful, and the action was well worth seeing in IMAX 3d. I thought that The young Jeff Bridges looked kinda fake at the start, but I got used to it. Perhaps it was just because he was surrounded by an unreal setting that I just let it go. As for Daft Punk... Perfect! I knew it would be, but hearing was believing. Now I have to buy it.

I think it looks a little better now that we see it in color. I'm curious to see what the face looks like, the rest of the battroid is pretty easy to imagine. Pretty nice paint scheme - definitely looks like a test plane. Who knows, maybe this will be in movie 2 like the YF-25 was in movie 1! If this sells, I bet they'll milk the most to make the VF-25 v2. I'll agree with others that I'd rather see them design a VF-171 DX. -
Kick ass collection, I'm totally jealous. However, I'll admit that these pictures MIGHT be used in conjunction with the phrase "See honey, I could be worse...:

So was the CDC episode purely an invention of the TV series? Because it did feel quite out of place. Also, as nifty as the brainscan graphics were, it seemed to contradict some of what we'd seen earlier. If only the brainstem is active, why does shooting the zombies in the forhead work? I don't think any of the headshots portrayed in the series were angled right to take out the brainstem. Also, if absolutely nothing remains of the original person, why was Morgan's wife trying to get back in the house?

Did I miss something? I thought we had to wait for January to watch the last 5 eps... -
It remains to be seen if it's only the bite victims turn into walkers, or if it includes all the recently deceased. I remember reading that the show creators treated Night of the Living Dead as their bible. I wonder if the soldier in the tank had starved waiting for help. If he'd been been bitten, he probably would've gotten suicidal like Jim. He did have a loaded gun after all. Purely conjecture, though.
