  1. These look pretty great. Any info on pricing yet?
  2. 😗
  3. Interesting idea, mounting the base to the wall... Nice job! My kit bashed GM team is finally coming together, but I'm not happy with the way my EZ-SR's weapons binders are working out. They should all be ready to paint once spring rolls around.
  4. Well, if it looks good, that's not too far off. Certainly within the Anime Magic margin of error.
  5. Exactly. We cut the cable 2 years ago and have been largely fine. Of course, there are workarounds to watching the new episodes, but using those methods to watch a 10 year series... Yeesh. Maybe we'll get lucky & they'll decide to renew with Netflix.
  6. Yeah, expiration notes started popping up last week. I remember this happened last year too, but the scuttlebutt online says Bbc is trying to start its own service.
  7. Dang it, my wife was finally coming around to watching this show. Now it's leaving Netflix for bbc's upcoming service. That's going to be far less convenient...
  8. I liked season 5 & most of 9. Moffat sets up some good ideas, but he's rarely able to pull off the finish. I'm ready for a change, but sad we have to wait another year. I hope Capaldi sticks around for a while, I really enjoy his Doctor.
  9. Man, all the Barbatos variants are making it hard to decide which version to get. I'm not a huge fan of high-heeled mobile suits, but the shoulder & chest armor are pretty cool.
  10. Finally had a chance to see the whole movie a second time. While a few things still bug me, I enjoyed it more this time around. Being more familiar with the plot, I was able to concentrate on the backgrounds, details & more subtle characterization. Even the rathdar scene seemed better.
  11. The presentation of Starkiller Base was one of the biggest problems I had with the movie. Overall, I really enjoy it, but my disbelief dropped to the sticky theater floor here. When I first heard it named, then saw the poster, I thought - OK it's bigger than the Death Stars, but it must also be bigger. So, being called Starkiller, and supposedly able to wipe out systems from across the galaxy, I presumed that it would actually destroy the targeted star. Unfortunately, despite knowing I shouldn't, my mind put together a scenario of how this would work. I was quite wrong: I figured that the energy convertors and transmitters would be located within the planet. It would really be more of an advanced off-site hyperdrive than anything. The weapon would pull the energy out of one star (either a lone star or another system you don't like) and shunt it through hyperspace into the core of the targeted star, causing it to violently supernova. Thereby actually KILLING the STAR. This made sense within established tech, was a legit advancement of the Death Star concept, and would've generated dramatic shots of the star swallowing planets. Plus, the star that the planet orbits is not touched, and the base might be difficult to track. Naturally, this is not what we got. Honestly, I question whether JJ understands that "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space." (Adams, HHGTG) First, old Spock watching Vulcan collapse, beaming to a warping Enterprise, beaming from Earth to Kronos, and now everyone watching the Republic Capital blow up in the sky. Sigh.
  12. Heh, I had a similar thought. It'd be a shame to destroy a nice one!
  13. Well, the interrogation was left intentionally vague. All we know is that Darth Vader & a couple other dudes were there, and a floaty droid with delivery forceps was approaching ominously with a syringe. Vader states "Her resistance to the 'mind probe' is considerable..." Is the mind probe the droid? Is it a general interrogation protocol? Is it what Vader & Sidious call rooting around & "probing" your subject's mind for visions and memories? In later produced, fully canon media, we see three other examples of dark-side users interrogating prisoners: End of Rebels, S1: After Agent Kallus exhausts his traditional methods, the Grand Inquisitor uses the Force to try and dig into Kanan's head. Kanan is fairly successful at blocking him. TFA: After being captured, we see Poe strapped to a similar device that was used on Han in ESB. He is already roughed up, and there's a very similar droid to the one in ANH in the background. IIRC, it's stated that he won't give anything up to the FO interrogators. Kylo Ren then uses the Force (in the exact same way as the Inquisitor) to easily get the info about BB-8 from Poe. Later, we see Kylo try this on Rey, although seemingly without the standard torture first, and she resists him quite handily. Yes, it's retconning now, but Star Wars is no longer a standalone film. As far as I'm aware, this has not been explicitly stated, but this is my thought: The "mind probe" Vader speaks of is this technique. Perhaps the droid administered drugs have a part in it. Unable to get info in the normal way, Vader tries to use the FOrce on Leia. Not only is she strong-willed & determined enough to resist standard torture techniques, her latent Force strength prevents Vader from digging around, much as Rey resisted Kylo Ren. Of course, this is just my opinion, but it works for me. While Vader did seem surprised by this, he certainly didn't show any suspicion about it, or sense any connection to her. That might've been interesting - but of course, they hadn't come up with the idea that Leia was his daughter yet.
  14. Still OT, that always seemed dumb to me. Leia's the one who is certain the Empire is tracking the Falcon. But what does she do? Heads straight to the Rebel base anyway, giving them hardly any time to plan an attack.
  15. His real name is Eric.
  16. It's the only way to be sure.
  17. Depending on the price, these really aren't bad for that scale. Thinks of the old 1/144 Imai kit that I had way back...
  18. Oh, there's a 6" flame trooper? I have a stormy & a snowy, but I'll have to keep my eyes out for that. Hopefully we'll see a heavy weapons stormy soon too.
  19. Yep, 1.6 for me. Similar reason: no family nearby, 2 & 6 yo. 6 yo liked the movie, but got too scared, right about where Kylo came after Rey in the forest. Really feeling incomplete leaving it off there. I'm in the process of trying to corral a couple people to see it again.
  20. Yeah, I just got a few target gift cards for the birthday, and that's tempting me as well.
  21. FN-2199: http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016/01/star-wars-the-force-awakens-traitor-trooper-officially-named-given-backstory.html Well, this IS Star Wars. Those mosquito dude's at Maz's watering hole will probably have their own comic series at some point too.
  22. For a few episodes on IBO, it really seemed that things were going way too well for Tekkadan. Winning battles, making allies, forming a family. The last two episodes have certainly put a stop to that. Even though all of our main cast is still alright, the confrontation with the Brewers has reiterated the core horror of this future: child slavery. The kids of CGS/Tekkadan are not an outlier; child soldiers seem to be commonplace, risking their lives and meeting a grisly end because they can't even imagine a better life than the hell they're living. So too is this practice seen in the engagement of McGillis to the little girl and by Kudelia's father planning her assassination for his mysterious plan. Man, I was starting to think that this was the least tormented Gundam show yet. Nope, it's just a more pervasive element that all of the characters just accept. It's depressing, and now it definitely feels like a Gundam show.

Aw dang. I was not aware this was coming up. I might check out NY down the pipe a little. I wonder though - are these Zentraedi mecha *actually* 1/100 scale - or consistent with the earlier "1/100 scale" items that are really more like 1/144?
