Wait until I make the topic "my new toy tastes funny" before you really become convinced I'm insane. "Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it definitely doesn't taste like fresh Japanese Gakken, more like stale Korean Joons...."
-
Hey folks, I did a quick search on "smells" but came up with nothing. I recently scored a toy with box and noticed upon opening it a slight odor. At first I was confused as to the odor but now I recognize it as the smell I have after a late night of boozing... stale cigarette smoke. It's very mild but it's there. The toy itself seems nearly unscathed but the box has one side that seemed to be closer to the ashtray than everything else. My questions: 1) Does anybody know a way of making plastic smell prettier (for the toy)? 2) Does anybody know a way to help take the stink out of cardboard? I was pondering several ideas: 1) Febreeze. Maybe spray a little on a cloth and give the toy occasional rub downs. 2) Febreeze in a plastic tub. Put a cup of Febreeze in a sealed storage tub with the toy's box and maybe even give it a very light febreeze dusting. 3) Put the toy and the box next to a candle (not close). The problem with that is I run the real risk of having the toy and box smell like a candle. In the meantime I have the toy airing out (i'll just have to remember to dust it occasionally).

Man, I don't know if that even counts as an ASS anymore, maybe just a piece of ASS but if anyone knows me, I'm always down to check out a piece of ASS. Oh God, am I number 1,000,000? Was I the millionth person to make a "piece of ASS joke?" <fingers crossed>

While I'm here, here are some comparison pics I did when I got my Rook MPC to my Gakken 1/35.... Well, i actually compared it also to the other two Gakken 1/55s but those look so bad in comparison to these it wouldn't be fair to include them.

Another crappy alpha eh? You might be screwed if you bought it from an individual, I'm not sure how their return policy works. If you have a credit card receipt though (or some other receipt) then you might be fine. From the returns others have pulled off I think they're pretty lenient. Go to Toynami.com and you'll find two Email addresses. One is for info and the other is for sales. I sent an Email to both. They'll send you a form response telling you to ship the item to them with a receipt. Then, about two weeks later, you ought to receive a replacement (NOTE: many people have claimed it took several more than two weeks, in my case it took about 4 business days). This sounds similar to an Alpha I bought at my local Gamestop. I figured I couldn't go wrong for $39.99. When I got it home it was broken in some pretty major ways. They must use those things for display pieces or something and just let anyone handle it and mutilate it. Anyway, Toynami gave me a perfect one in exchange so I'm a happy camper (NOTE: others have complained that Toynami gave them crappy ones in exchange for their crappy ones).

Found my earlier post

I whole-heartedly disagree. I wrote a post a while back comparing the Toynami to the Gakken and the Toynami won out. I will probably be selling one of the big ol' Gakkens soon so if you're really interested keep an eye out. I will also do a picture review for y'all when I get the chance. The Gakken is definitely the more sturdy of the toys though, with that part I do agree. That being said, the Gakkens were no where near a 10 on a scale to 10. They have knees that break super easy and a host of other problem areas.

Dave, my experiences with Toynami have been very good. If you have a credit card statement or receipt of any kind I suspect they would replace your inverted heel Scott. I do remember another member once complaining about having something inverted in their leg that kept it from behaving properly. Possibly the same problem so you might not be alone. Wolfx, there are some common complaints among new Alpha owners. 1) The instructions suck.... and yes they do. You're one of the fortunate ones if all you have are stress marks when all is said and done. I actually broke my first Scott by trying to pull out on the rear hatch instead of pushing (the hatch behind the sensor mount). Oh well. 2) The hands fall apart... and yes they do. Fortunately you'll avoid this problem by going straight to the shadow fighter since those don't have the uber fragile design and there's no finger manipulation necessary in holding the gun. 3) The vehicle has an arched back in fighter mode. This is true but only slightly and usually if it's pronounced in any degree there is something you can do to help reduce this. Of all the Alphas I have displayed in fighter the arched back isn't noticeable. Think back to when you first took the toy out of the box... if the back was super arched then you may be out of luck. If the thing looked okay then there's probably some latch you can massage or joint that can be compressed an iota more to smooth things out a bit.

Can someone play "the Crying Game" for me? Ivano Gunther sounds like a man's name to me... Come to think of it though, wasn't there a scene or two where he/she/it is dressed in armor with giant spikey things on it's shoulders? I guess that shoulda clued me in too. So sad. I'm gonna go watch some Vandread episodes so I can feel better about my ability to judge male from female anime characters. Maybe ol' Geppy is a female so when she possessed Ivano it femmed Ivano up?

I've got no idea what it takes to do this kind of work but it looks impressive to me. Kinda sleek. If you want an idea on detail one of the members here used to work on the RT comics (IIRC) and was selling ULTRA detailed drawings he had done. There's probably some sort of search you can do to find that thread and see the stuff he came up with.

and i thought I had all the perverted responses covered! wait until you see Rex unzipping....

I'm confused. If I see anime on television I will take pause and usually watch the episode just to get a feel for whether or not I'll like it. Truth is I have pretty discerning taste in most the time anime just doesn't hold my interest... but I do give it far more a chance than just some random sitcom I may stumble upon. Does the fact I give it more of a chance then typcial live action TV preclude me from being a member in the club? I would never go to a convention but I do have a room of toys from Macross and Mospeada... (most girls see that and would lump me right in with every Otaku cosplayer they ever heard stories about). I do spend an inordinate amount of time on MW and RT.com also.... but one of my favorite hobbies is making fun of shows super anime fans take way too seriously just to get a good rise out of them. Do I fit the requirements to join the club?

I'm pretty sure the evil form of Geppy is a dude but it's a possessed girl he uses for his command. They even fem her up a bit when they do their commercial break still shots -

Man, don't scare me like that!! I thought maybe Macross7 had turned me gay! Not for nothing but if that blonde number is a dude it's one dude I would do! Okay, I found this though and it makes me feel better: Geppernich The principal enenmy, Geppernich is a protodevilin whose dreram of a "Spiritia Farm" begins the whole series of attacks on Macross 7 (and Macross 5 as it turns out) and eventually turns her into a "Spirita Black Hole" which threatens to eat up the entire galaxy. Geppernich' gender is an issue as she seems to be a she but from time to time is referred to as a he...? props to this page http://members.tripod.com/~MJenius/m7.html for the above information

Wow, this thread is tough because I want to read what everyone said was a positive already just so I don't repeat them but at the same time I don't want to read it so I don't have a fiery urge to refute them... tough stuff indeed! Hey, did someone say Ella Fitzgerald was one of Max's bridge bunnies? I certianly don't remember an old black crooner being on the bridge at any point... Positives about Macross 7... gimme a moment I can think of one or two... 1) Gold Q-Rau 2) Rex unzipping (oh so hot, want to touch the...) 3) Max kickin' butt in his VF-22 (where's my VF-22 toy Bandai???) 4) Gubaba (don't quote me on this because I hate to admit I liked it... it's like an emoticon... I feel much less manly for liking it but still do anyway) 5) Sivil 6) VF-17 (not the gussied up glam rock one, the standard midnight blue/black) 7) VF-19 (not the gussied up glam rock Kai, the standard blue/black one) VF-11 (although it's performance is much better in Mac Plus even though it only gets 1/100000000 of the onscreen time there) 9) If she never talked, the blonde chick that headed up the Varuta 10) Knowing it can never be released stateside.

I like how HG gets villified and RT gets hated on because of it. I really do just enjoy the drama it creates. It's kinda like the really Christian guy who cuts you off on his way to church. All these people raise a stink about all these legal problems but if they had their hand in a pocket full of money I wonder how many would gladly pull it out to let other people reach in and take it? The whole "i can't buy my toys" thing should be moot anyway since we all own the toys anyway and it's EVERYONE's fault there's a legal problem here. As far as the shows go, they all have their good parts and their problems. I mean, Robotech has The Masters saga and Macross has Macross7...

This is a big mistake methinks.... this has gotta spawn a reissue if anyone from Yamato is half-awake.

Official toynami word thusfar: "We'll let sells dictate that. Blue first, then more if sells warrant it." I expect we'll see 'em all.

Hi Kin, figured out I'm a completist eh My Shadow Fighter review post a couple days back, I believe, has a picture of all the shadow fighters I own including the three MPCs. I'm pretty sure this is every Shadow Fighter ever made. I also posted a pic of the same shelf before the MPCs arrived so it might cause some confusion. Beyond that there are two things I know of that I'm missing. 1) The I-men figures. 2) the green MPC. I do eventually plan on getting those but I've been really busy lately scooping up vintage Macross toys. Anything vintage takes precedent for me since I'm pretty sure if I don't have a green MPC two years from now I'll still be able to find one pretty easy. I also had to finish my Yammie 1/48 collection before prices go too outrageous. I'm currently trying to do this very same type of display with the characters from Macross. It's very expensive and you could never fit all of their toys into one cube. Hell, you can only fit a tiny percentage of the toys into one cube so I'm having to learn some restraint
-
Here's what my Shadows looked like before the MPCs arrived - It was clearly a bit lonely since Gakken never got around to them.
-
Yeah, i've posted this a couple times before but I don't mind doing it again (forgive my lack of a green MPC... still waiting to find the perfect deal on that item)
-
is there a TRU Japan website we can bombard with orders I ordered a super Max from a vender here (the last TV one I'm missing) and am now in the precarious position of waiting while the vender "restocks." I would definitely order one from TRU and risk having two.

There's currently a LV on Ebay, with BIN and shipping it's $385. This will be a good test to see which valk is worth more.... You know the LV is never gonna be released so i gotta think it still holds the edge.... As far as the Roy first edition being worth more than the second or third.... I doubt the difference in value is at all significant. Obviously Roy is the least collectible of the series now.... he's everywhere!
-
Sure thing, apparently they released three superposeables for the Shadow Fighter. There's your standard one, the metallic one, and a clear one that was a magazine or con exclusive (I forget which... someone here could probably clear this up better). BTW - If you want one and you're in the US I received a second one as a gift and haven't touched it.

Robotech honored by Science Fiction Museum
jenius replied to Roy's Blues's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just to play devil's advocate here.... (I really don't care enough to take a stance one way or the other) People tend to be irked when someone downplays the differences between Macross and The Macross Saga (or SDCSC vs TRM, MOSPEADA, TNG). I've seen it many times where someone will make the "eh, it's just a dub" comment and create the flame war to end all flame wars. Soo.... if we all like to think the originals are vastly different and superior to Robotech then don't we have to conceed that Robotech is indeed a unique creation? I'm not saying we have to like it or dislike it but wouldn't we have to view it as a stand-alone product or risk becoming hypocritical? As such, if a SciFi enterprise feels the story is worthy of accolade then, if we really do feel that RT does a horrible representation of the originals, don't we have to conclude that they are judging RT based on the story how RT conveys it? I dunno, just a thought. The folks at HG don't seem to try to hide what they've done so I highly doubt any organization handing out awards has no idea that the animation is all originally from three unrelated Japanese shows.
