For the record, I was just joking about having the Yakuza break his knees... sorry if what I said started that whole snowball. Then again, these issues were all bound to come up eventually so maybe it's good to have these things out early.

I think I could be convinced to spend $600 on an ultra rare 1/48 Mastercard VF-1J. If you ever see another let me know. Of course then I'd have to figure out some way of assuring you're not going to run off with my money. Does anyone know some people in the Yakuza I could employ to bust knees... I mean, keep people honest

JBO, what the heck is that? Do you have the ability to put whatever you want in that dialogue box? I have all sorts of evil thoughts running through my head. Sundown, don't waste your breath (or uh... finger muscle energy in this case?). He's just gonna come back with some crazy talk about God endowing him with the right to determine how everything in this world should be interpreted and that you're a moron for thinking otherwise. It sounds like you may have taken some literary classes in your time. Big Derrida fan? Can we deconstruct Robotech? Oh man, would we also have to deconstruct Macross, Southern Cross, and MOSPEADA if we did that? Crap, is Robotech new art in the same way as Kathy Acker's "adaptation" of Great Expectations??

So how does one acquire one of these Mastercard VF-1Js??? I own a Mastercard, I don't remember them asking me if I'd be interested in an exclusive Macross product.

Hey Hurin, I apologize if it seemed like I was jumping on you in my last post. I was just readin' through and laughing at how the thread slid from innocuous toy talk to why RT and HG sucks and how this cat is an Arafat clone or some such. Anyway, It seems there really isn't a Yodobashi Ikiba building right outside of LAX... I musta been confused EDIT - verb tense

Yeah, I don't go to the movies because I think what's happening is real and genuine... I go to be entertained. Call me strange, but I am thoroughly entertained by having my face firmly between two big breasts. It's certainly worth $1 to me Heck my gf doesn't mind having her face between two breasts every now-and-then either and the entertainment of that is far superior! I was going to go tit-for-tat with 1st Border again but now I see he is clearly insane and there's no point. Any one who can argue his version of anything is superior to the one being produced by the creators and that only he understands the creators' original intent has got to be engaged in some sort of psychosis. Doesn't matter anyway, with every new RT product created his version of RT reality slips further and further away... I think that sums up the moral of this story nicely. If we can have five people familiar with the story have five different takes on the event and point to five different scenes that support their arguments then yeah... that's about right.

1/48+FP's, 1/60, and 1/72 picture gallery
jenius replied to VF-18S Hornet's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The yellow shield doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would! I still like my theory that it woulda just got painted whatever color they had lying around everytime they needed to touch it up. -
LOL, Hurin totally ignored the "stay on topic of the thread" line and went right back to derailing. Hey, you know what I think are pretty rare, the jokemachines for DYRL.

1st Border, I am soooo happy that HG cares nothing about your misguided opinions. Not that I hold all that much faith in the new series being any good... but I'm fairly certain the things you feel are fact will be easily refuted. You think the Invid are weak.... yet we are already hearing that they are a terror to be dealt with. So, what are you going to say when the new series shows them as being powerful? "It conflicts with the old series so the new series isn't canon!" No, I think you're just wrong and refusing to own up to it. How protracted was the Invid war with Earth? Um, not at all. Was it because The Masters had done so much damage to the ASC? Okay, it's a nice thought, but the Invid destroy all the remaining army, at least three massive reclamation strikes, and then the remaining REF reclamation force upon its return. Was the ASC more powerful than all of that??? The animation does not support that. Leonard is a moron, he was probably gorging on donuts and ignored someone telling him there was a big ship landing on Earth. Your suppositions are no more valid than anyone else's. The Regis never states why she is leaving. You are supposing it is because she feels her defeat is inevitable. Her actions don't really support that though. Scott and Lancer tell her she's gonna be defeated and she scoffs. Sera tells her she will be defeated and she scoffs. She's a Goddess, she knows she's not going to be defeated. It's only when she senses that more damage than good will come from the battle that she packs up her bags and defeats those who would damage Earth in the process. Yeah, it's truer to MOSPEADA's line of thought but it plays out the same in RT without any direct evidence to the contrary. You tell me. I missed that part of the animation. Oh wait, it's not in the animation. In fact, no history of it is in the animation at all. Point K is also, clearly, not a base, it's a gathering point. When enough people gathered there the Invid wiped them out. I can pick a "point' on a map and label it, it can remain labeled that for an eternity, that doesn't mean anything. All you can do is suppose, and again, your suppositions don't mean more than my own. Can you please tell me what in the animation proves that no one on Earth knew of the Invid? Besides, it's possible the Invid were a huge threat at one point and then beaten off a planet and disappeared with the Zents thinking they were gone forever... only to have the emerge even more powerful than before. Again, you lack imagination, the Disciples of Zor could have been anything, including an alliance that included the Invid. So, by your own logic, the Invid would be powerful. Again, I think you prove my point, the Invid are so powerful they don't feel the need to worry about humans trying to reclaim Earth. They don't want the moon base and if the humans are stupid enough to attack from it they'll just wipe 'em all out. After all, it's easier to defend than to attack.

Please, those buildings are right oustide of LAX!

Honest question, what does rampaging Zents destroying the Republic have to do with whether or not the Invid are powerful? They must be more powerful than the Masters right, I mean, the Masters are clearly afraid of them once the Zents are gone and The Invid swoop in and conquer Earth easily whereas the Masters just floated around in space. Okay, so because the Regis mentions the Masters and the word "shadow" in the same sentence this is the definitive proof that shadow technology is directly related to the Masters? Again, maybe I'm just too imaginative. Are their more quotes that support this? 1) They might have had to flee because they were not as powerful as A) the Zents, and B) the mysterious Shadow villains that might be coming up. Either that or the Zents kicked their butts twice. Weren't the Invid the threat that created the need for the Zents in the first place? That must make them powerful right? You're totally confusing apathy for weakness. They took over all of the Earth they needed. The series never show them failing at anything. We don't see an episode where a base on Earth successfully repels an attack. Why would they bother attacking the moon also? There was nothing there they wanted, they fully expected humanity to get over the loss of the planet and move on... not keep fighting for it. They also knew they were strong enough that no matter what they threw at them they would easily repel them.

If only the heels on that thing were constructed of clear plastic....
-
Why can't the Zents have been fighting the Invid for a long time? Why did the Regis have to be referring to the Masters when talking about Shadow? I thought just about nothing was canon anymore and I don't see why having the Invid a powerful villain at some point in their past would really be an issue.

OH, i didn't see MOSPEADA stuff was acceptable too. Lansay Tread I want one of these Mastercard 1/48 VF-1A, who has pics?
-
Bandai 1/55 strike? I would put that after the VE-1 and the VT-1 and even below the Takatoku SDF-1 1/3000 scale.

i added myself and i think it's sweet.

Does anyone remember what the original retail price was on the 1/48s and the 1/60s? I'm trying to determine the MSRP of my collection for self-loathing purposes.
-
Yeah, but you knew it was only a matter of time before a thread identical to this was spawned by some newb who didn't realize there was a search function. I've been immersed in my collection lately (putting some in storage, selling others, rearranging displays) so I decided to do a review as I went through 'em all. The thing that got me really going was how bad the MPC's intakes are in fighter mode. If you compare the Taka it actually has a better looking fighter mode than the MPC! So we all know the 1/48 is goregeous but the 1/60 is horrible and I say SHAME on anyone who ever recommended this thing while simultaneously bad-mouthing the Toynami. Both of these toys deserve equal bad-mouthing. The later edition 1/60s started picking it up a bit (collapsible gun stock instead of removable forearm pieces) but they still have screw covers that pop off constantly and absolutely craptastic GERWALK modes. In fact, on the 1/60s that came with armor the GERWALK is almost useless since the armor makes twisting the legs out impossible. The battloid mode with it's large leg gap and super pointy cod aren't all that great either. The MPC has about the same number of issues ranging for horrid fighter mode to extremely limited poseability (although it's more stable than the 1/60).
-
The question about the Toynami alpha should really be deferred to the MPC thread since that's what it's mostly about. Lots of opinions and pics stated throughout. Lots of folks think they're garbage, I like 'em despite the fact I've had to return three of them (and I haven't heard anything about the last one I sent in for three weeks now). My collection is far from complete... and that's one of the little bugger's that's managed to allude me thus far. I feel kinda bad, I have one picture that has all the fighter modes in one jpeg but it's apparently too big for MW and that's why I had to split it up here. It makes it a lot harder to compare them I also have one pic that is all the battloid shots (front, side, back) but that was obviously too large also. Did someone say something about VF-1Ss? The Yammy 1/60, IMHO, is the worst 1S out there. Sure, it's got detail over the chunky variations but that head is sooooo damn ugly I can't get by it. Photo'd here is the 1990 Bandai VF-1S which previously had the ugliest 1S head before Yamato took the crown. At some point I'll have to add the taka VF-1S for comparison also.

I couldn't agree more. I said something to this effect on the RT website once and no one seemed to second my opinion. Apparently everyone there insists that the Invid just plain got beat... I didn't see it that way at all. There's also a predominant opinion that the Shadow Fighters could have succeeded in killing the Regis, this is another notion I sincerely doubt. When i first watched the original MOSPEADA and they mentioned they were having problems with the atmosphere I almost spat the soda I was drinking out in laughter. I prefer RT's notion that the captain is just going excessively fast because he knows his ship can't stand another attack. While I would prefer rape scenes be left to hentai I agree in a large part with what you're saying. Personally though, I like the upbeat overall message and I would worry the version of MOSPEADA your discussing would be overly bleak. Part of MOSPEADA's charm is its moments of campiness. If you stripped it of the camp and added cannibalism and rapists I think it'd be really hard to ever get that "Yeah, way to go!" feeling.

What was it? the link doesn't work anymore.

Speaking of the music, I'm not saying I liked the Robotech version of Lancer's songs but I did like the fact they spoke to quiet resistance. Belmont's songs are just kinda interesting "mmootttoooo cycle freeeakkk!!" whereas Lancer is kinda trying to spur rebellion. This worked out particularly well in the NY episode where the backdrop is Lancer singing about winning the fight while Scott and crew are out there winning the fight (IIRC). Also, there is a scene where they name her Aisha so it's not like some unexplained anomaly. They realize it means "princess" while eatiing Aisha Mandarin Oranges and think that's the perfect name for the mysterious beauty they have discovered (again IIRC). The group also does not speak Japanese (although they do, but they don't, you follow?) so to them it's just a pretty foreign name... along the lines of Mylene.

no, someone misread an advertisement stating "The latest VF-1A" for the "the last VF-1A"

LOL, you said that Macross' animation was soooo much better. oh man, i think you're serious too. Should we go through both series and pick out scenes where the animation is absolutely horrible because both have plenty of examples. To say that Macross' animation was soo much better seems downright silly to me. It's like saying "My 2 year old's drawing is sooooo much better than your 2 year old's drawing." Come to think of it though, more examples in Macross spring to mind. Remember when you'd be watching Max, then it'd be Ben, then it'd be Max again in a battle? Remember how the Glaug's arms would spin in circles? Remember that AWESOME scaling affect of the shuttles and SDF-1 approaching and leaving Earth?
