    Takatoku fix

Is there any way to fix the old vintage valks (and Jetfire's) shoulders when they break? I just got one off Ebay and may have been ripped off (i'm currently inquiring about a refund if i return the item). Anyway, it's in beautiful shape if it weren't for the shoulder joint being messed up. Can you guys let me know if it can be repaired? PS- i quickly tried a search on the subject but failed. Let me know -
  2. I voted glass plus hinge, like the others I use the Ikea ones. Super cheap and you can add a light to them pretty easy and cheap also. Unfortunately I do not like the full glass back to them. I don't live in a cave and I want to keep my pieces out of the sun so I had to invent my own backs to them. It's okay, it's forcing me to get creative. I definitely prefer to keep them enclosed as it severely limits the dust build up that might otherwise occur.
  3. I wouldn't worry about online orders. I get the feeling mine was used as a display item and then put back in the box. They also had a VFA-6H that was clearly opened and they were the last two left. I just called just about the entire SF Bay Area looking for a place to exchang it with and none of 'em have it anymore. Darn.
  4. I just got one from a Gamestop store. Got it home to find it had obviously been opened before. Removed it to find it broke in box. Wonderful. I was already shipping one to Toynami... now I'll be shipping two. Hope the other one i have coming turns out better.
  5. Okay, there's my little collection (sans Ben, he's off fighting a battlepod in front of the SDF1 in another display case ). They're all very pose-able even with the armor weighing them down. The armor itself does pop off pretty easy since some parts are only hanging on by the strength of magnets. I find them to be a bit sharper than my old 1/55 but they definitely don't feel nearly as sturdy. The old 1/55s got me used to the idea of having metal swing bars so those don't bother me. The idea of a valk not being truly transformable really does bother me quite a bit. If I wanted a kit I'd buy a model. I do love flexibility though. That being said, can someone post a pic of a super yammie 1/60 doing some sort of pose that the design of the MPC does not allow? That might convince me to give those buggers a try...
  6. Man, I've been collecting valks for a short while but could never figure a good reason to buy the 1/60 Yammies so I came to this thread trying to determine what their strong points were... Unfortunately the link that looked like it'd be helpful was dead Also, it seemed like everyone had terrible opinions about the MPCs but no one did a visual comparison. Here's my effort, can someone please post a 1/60 pic that shows how much better the Yammie's are? (not the 1/48s, i know how great they are) Please don't mind the Robotech background album... it's just for a good display backdrop... honest.
  7. DAMN THEM!! I just purchased this one for $50 'cause i figured that'd be about as cheap as it got. Wouldn't you know it??? Well I guess I know what I'm going to wait for when the green one comes out. $80 might be ludicrous for this toy but it's definitely worth $40 IMHO. Then again, i haven't seen my red one yet.
  8. Seriously Godzilla... leave one low viz out there for me to buy okay???
  9. 1/72 = 3 (need the YF-19 grey) 1/60 = 0 1/48 = 1 (VF-1S Focker, want LV) My non-yammie colection is more impressive. Vintage baby.. vintage.
  10. You know, it's like they say in slackers... Treat a girl like dirt, and she'll stick to you like mud. (yeah, you try that one out and tell me how it works out for you) Anyway, I would say "my work" but you're on the East Coast. Man, seems every asian chick in the place loves white guys and I have to be the one white guy who doesn't dig asian chicks. CURSE ME!!! Does the east coast have Pearl Tea places? Start frequenting those. A wise tip, learn how to say "white ghost" (if you're white) in cantonese, that way there you'll be able to understand every time her asian friends are ripping on you.
  11. Special thanks to Anubis for the small red Gakken. If anyone is sitting on Alphas and wants to make a quick buck I need the diecast 2 changers and the green and blue small Gakkens. Box and accessories would be nice. PM me. Anybody heard word on the release of the green Alpha?
  12. This is my first time trying to post a pic anywhere but I hope it works. I own one of each Alpha i could care to own now (with a few unpictured here). I must say, my new MPC is friggin' great. My old one couldn't carry a gun but this one can. I won't be moving it's arms much to see how quick they loosen up ('cause I'm sure it's real quick) but straight out of the package this one is STELLAR. Do i like it as much as my 1/35s? Well, they aren't nearly as sturdy and I'm sure they have about 1/5th the durability but when you get a well made one it's really frickin' beautiful.
  13. Somebody sell me a Low Viz. Please. : ) Anyway, believing that the Armor is coming out, I would think this would necessitate a fresh run of 1Js. What I'm hoping is that since they'll be doing one they'll do a few others with it. I know I still have my fingers crossed for a TV Max and a grey VF-1S. If a fresh run comes out this will hopefully bring a few of the people storing mad stashes of 1/48s to sell 'em off and we'll see the prices drop down to reasonable again. That's my hope 'cause I only got one 1/48 and right now I'd rather drop $200 on something vintage than another one (unless it's a LowViz).
  14. the 1/48th scale price sky rocketing? Well, they're certainly getting a bit harder to get at the moment but if Yamato is planning a release of the 1/48 scale armor this year than it's more than likely (i would think) that we will see a few more valks at that time also. At the very least they're going to do a 1J with armor. What do you think? Am i nuts or does this sound plausible?
  15. Well they didn't ask when, where, or how I got mine or anything else. They just told me to send it back and it'd be replaced. That's pretty sweet. Man, at this rate the VFA-6H is gonna be super collectible since half of them will be in the trash cans at Toynami. Honestly, I really do love this toy... if only they had put some sort of mechanical joint in the shoulders so they could support the weight of the arms!! Of course an upgrade to the hands would be nice too... Any chance the shadow claws will be solid plastic variety?
  16. Just got my reply from Toynami. They'd be happy to replace my Alpha so long as i get it to them. They'll even pay for shipping back to me. You know, the quality of the toy may be suspect at times but the response time (when i emailed the right place) and the customer service is absolutely stellar.
  17. I find it difficult to adequately describe how intensely I abhor this branch of the series. 1) The characters (except Gubaba and Sivil). From the generally over-colorful and outlandish pop-style to their mind-numbing reasoning. Then there's the premise; I believe if I tried to get in front of an elite US Special Forces group and a legion of Al Quaeda terrorists already in the midsts of a gun fight with a guitar I would have very little time to strum a guitar. Even if I could, I'm pretty sure the US would have me dragged into a very small prison cell and beaten with a rubber hose until I promised to never interfere with ANYTHING EVER again. Basara doesn't grow. Mylene is a 14 year old sex symbol. Ray seems like he has potential but it never develops. The quiet girl really should have been more of a Silent Bob character and said some pearls of wisdom... instead of just being quiet. 2) The red YF-19's FACE and any other vehicle that had a face that I might not be remembering. What age group are we trying to appeal to here? How much sake did they consume before they decided mechs with faces that were controlled via electric guitar were a good idea? 3) As someone already stated, the designs of the non-warships were just quirky. Again, seems like they were trying to appeal to very little children. The protodevilin fell into this problem too. Just plain strange designs. Battle scenes? I'm pretty sure I got to see the same battle scene about 47 different times. No, Basara's four songs didn't get old. No... not at all. Ooh, i love how they mix it up by having Mylene sing one of Basara's four songs every now and then. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SHOVE A FRICKING KATANA IN MY G*D*A*N EAR?? 4) The never consumated love triangle... wow, that's one way to really peak the stress level. Allude to an odd arranged marriage with a 14 year old and her possible crush on a possibly homosexual and quite certainly insane Basara... right... I really couldn't wait to see who ended up with her. And then, even though I didn't care, no one does??? Yeah, great job. 5) I felt like most of the 500 episodes were cannon-fodder just trying to move the story along and generally failing to do so. The only redeeming qualities I found to this were cameos. I'm not sure if MacPlus came first but the mech's from that (since that's the order i saw it in), Max, Milia, VF-1, Exe, and anyone else I may have forgotten. There was some potential in the exploration of the protoculture but i ultimately didn't like the path it took. I've never shaken my head so many times while watching an anime. Argh, thank you for letting me vent.
  18. I'm going to test this statement (about Toynami accepting duds). I have a blue alpha that had the infamous disentegrating right hand issue as well as a crooked head and floppy arms. I originally was thinking about trying to make a Fokker custom out of him (which I still think is a cool idea and would love to see someone do). Anyone else think the Shadow isn't black enough?? Also, do you think they'll release an exclusive of some sort with the unmanned shadow?
  19. So what you're telling me is I should include the Bandai re-release. I'm trying to keep these all similar, if not exact, in scale. So as it goes right now it would be: Takatoku > Joons > Bandai > Yamato (1/60) > Toynami > Yamato (1/48) Does it sound like I'm missing anything? I realize the Joons are knock-offs but I think it's a pretty solid inclusion and wouldn't want to include any of the other various knock-offs. Thanks for the input, that was very helpful information. I don't suppose you have a Bandai re-release Millia you want to practically give away?
  20. I also just got my first 1/48th, mine is Focker VF-1S (as seems to be the most prevalent one on the market at the moment). It's a first edition. Are these more valuable from a collector's standpoint or does it not seem to matter? What's the most I should be willing to spend on Fastpacks? I saw a few old websites that have long since soldout used to sell them for $50-$55. Also, albeit completely unrelated, I'm doing an evolution of the valk (kinda like from monkey to man) with the toys and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are differences between the Takatoku 1/55s and the Bandai re-releases?
  21. I swear, i have the exact same YF-21FP as Prometheum. One screw cover is missing and the hips are loose.
  22. Sorry, I'm a newbie so if this is in the wrong place I apologize. Anyway, I just got my first 1/35th Gakken and I have a problem with it's right foot. Has anyone out there ever taken these Alpha's legs apart or is it a seriously bad idea? Anyone ever modify a Gakken Alpha? Really, I just want to know how I can get this right foot that is stuck pointing downward to release so that I can stand him without him looking like he's standing on his tippy toe.
