HG and BW reach an agreement (Link included)

Shots fired! -
The "launch edition" moniker implies reissues. I think it will be standalone with a reissue announced at the same time for the following month. A gray slip cover would have been great for dressing up future M&M 1Js... Not sure how a reissue would handle the visor.

Will the next Macross be the last Macross?
jenius replied to Roy Focker's topic in Movies and TV Series
There's already been one Macross without Kawamori. -

What makes you say that? I know it was never finished but I understood that to be related to the difficulty of keeping Mikimoto's attention rather than not generating any interest. Apparently there was enough interest for it to survive moving from one publication to another. -
I feel like that needs to be Photoshopped to change "25% LESS SODIUM" to be "Itano's Original, 1000% more missiles" or something similar

Harmony Gold doesn't make video games or comics. I don't know how the comic book industry works but I imagine it's like other merchandise where someone says "Hey, can I use your name and characters and give you a cut?" HG then says "Sure" and can either insist on the project being some level of quality.. or not. They're probably NOT specifying how REMIX or any of those other comics should play out... they're probably just scanning them to make sure there's nothing offensive. If that's the case, those are their mediums of choice because they're nearly zero effort all profit endeavors. -
Macross II .....possibility of it existing in Macross?
jenius replied to Dax415's topic in Movies and TV Series
Which is honestly, how all scifi universes should be. Look at all the people that get rankled because Star Trek or Star Wars takes liberties or seemingly forgets elements from previous movies. Kawamori's "none of it is actually what happened" is a perfect way to deal with this. -

I'm at lease excited to see some names I haven't seen in eons on the forums again. Welcome back folks! -
Wasn't the plan to hand this series off to Shia LaBeouf? Boy, that didn't pan out.

These types of things seldom happen quickly. I wouldn't be at all surprised if these conversations have been ongoing for a while, perhaps even pre-dating COVID and then accelerating. The suits in Japan may have even been the starting point with the Tatsunoko contract extension only happening because this was in the works and would allow all parties to have a cohesive plan forward. Everyone at HG that really had a dog in the fight is retired or dead and the kids are just cleaning up to try to keep a revenue stream going. -

In the merchandise front, it might mean BW won't forbid manufacturers to distribute in HG's territory so I've got my fingers crossed. Small HG manufacturers won't gain much as they won't have any distribution in Japan but Bandai might benefit. Too bad yamato didn't live to this day. -

So as the one license holder who poked BigWest with a stick, do we think CW will now stop doing VF-1 models?

Also, depending on the part, different types of plastic are used. A screw cover may be made of different stuff than a part that needs to handle stress.

I don't think Styrofoam has much to do with yellowing... look at toys from the 80s that came in Styrofoam. If they were in a dark cool place, they might still look great. I think the three main variables are: 1) Quality of plastic. This can vary batch to batch and has its own variables like the inclusion of UV blockers. This is the problem on V1 VF-25 toys... at least until the movie version release... still not sure if something was improved after that. You can usually tell cheap or bad plastic because a toy will have sections that yellow uniformly while others stay perfectly white. Using the V1 VF-25 as a reference, the nosecone is almost always uniformly yellowed. 2) UV exposure. This is closely related to... 3) Heat So you can have 3 without 2 and it will still be a problem but 2 almost always comes with 3 making it a double whammy. Even in an air conditioned, sheltered house, the sun light will warm the plastic. In attics you get 3 without 2 and the effect is more akin to what we see with 1, the less resilient plastics begin breaking down uniformly. Since the culprit is the plastic breaking down, the 'whitening' methods all seem like treating a symptom... and you can make a symptom go away for a while but if you can't fix the cause the problem is never truly solved. Once plastic starts breaking down, it really seems like painting it will be the only long-term solution.

I think you should be okay with the renewal toy if it's sealed. The v1 toys were made of interior plastic and yellow when sealed but the renewal toys seem to be made of better stuff. My renewal is original release and usually sits in the box and is still white.

Since this is a modern interpretation, they can shrug off a lot of the original differences if they feel inclined.
