The Macross Quarter. DX Chogokin
jenius replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Ah c'mon, a leg was snapped off the toy, hardly an issue for concern. It's not like the Toynami Alpha arms that just fall off eventually without even being handled (or certain other toys with notoriously weak shoulders). -
Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
jenius replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Congrats to all that guessed the VF-19 Kai was next. It's a terrible Valk that looks even worse in Bandai's rendition (judging from that prototype). I sincerely hope the final product is better. -
California Macross Launch Celebration?
jenius replied to Ginrai's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
I'm drunk as a skunk, I guess I unintentionally celebrated the launch.... now I'm just trying to stay up as long as possible so I'm less hungover. Looks like we all got good news from both Bandai and Yamato, this was a great day. -
Ginrai said that the acronymns in Mospeada were actually "backronymns" meaning that random letters were applied to mechs and then given a meaning later (I'm gussing the actuall MOSPEADA had to be different since it's in the name of the show). Maybe he can quote his source and help us with the TLEAD/TREAD debate.

There better be a lot of detail and a lot of cool tricks to warrant the price. I'm sick of toy companies acting like size is a bigger price factor than design. Beyond that, no surprise and I'm looking forward to it.
-
Kinda, except "Tlead" doesn't really work in English and the l/r is always a tricky romanization issue. Maybe that's how the creator thought it'd be Romanized but the creator wasn't necessarily an English or Romanization expert. So, I'd still say there's some fudge room to believe it's a Tread... after all, it became a Dread according to that modernized line art.

I had the same thing happen to my 6Z. It sad untouched in a display case for a year and then I picked it up (in fighter mode the whole time) and an arm fell off. Weak. I guess you'll have your Alpha permanently in fighter mode now.

Here's that CMs Wolf set on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/cms-Mospeada-Riding-Su...A1%7C240%3A1318 CMs is totally missing the boat here. Pardon the RT names for a second (I always screw the inbit up otherwise) but they should have released a 1/18 Invid Scout (with attachable guns) packaged with a couple 1/48 Scouts. I have no idea what i'm going to do with a Wolf figure and a random greeny... There should have at least been something exciting sold with them.

Shouldn't this be asked in the existing Overdrive replacement parts thread? I believe the answer you're looking for is "It can't hurt to try."

Shadow Chronicles would have had to be very different to work as Mospeada 2 but I agree... it would have been an ironic win/win situation.

So, two more days before we're all drueling over the new SDF-1 toy right? It just makes too much sense... SDF-1 launch party day, big announcement from Yamato... I can't wait!
-
The original Toynami press release on MPC Cyclones (way back before the announcement of a partnership with Beagle) did specify they'd making Shadow Chronicles variants. At the time, that meant they were going to make Vince Grant's bike which is a slighty toned down version of an original Mospeada design.

The Gosu that has since gone into hiatus due to economic meltdown (I'm still holding onto a tiny bit of hope) wasn't the kind of toy that would have a pull out pilot figure, at least that wasn't the idea I was given. It was still early in the planning stages so the idea might have evolved quite a bit after I heard about it. When I was talking about it it was going to be a fairly simple toy with just enough pose-ability to have it play nice with other 1/48 or 1/55 scale toys in displays. It's hard to convince Japanese companies there's a market for bad guys so the idea was to make the toy inexpensive so people who bought expensive Legioss toys could kind of think of the Gosu as almost an accessory to their Legioss. I would pay good money for a really high quality Gosu but I'm considered a huge exception to the rule in the eyes of Japanese companies.

Japan is actually engaged in monetary policies at the moment to reduce demand for the Yen... talk about a scary place to be. Their economy is getting slammed by the drop in trade due to Yen conversion rates. Everyone wants to buy their money but no one can afford their goods. Hopefully, for Japan, when the pendulum swings back it does so gradually and it doesn't stay peaked at the far end where it is now for too long.

Mega House didn't offer the slightest hint at progress for their Bartley armor. The only hint that they're even making one still lies in the poster where her sillouette is shown.
-
Ls and Rs are tricky, why bother debating which one it was meant to be? I think we can all agree that just about any English-speaking designer would have chosen "Tread" over "Tlead" or some other acronymn that rolled off the tongue better. Does that instruction manual state that the cockpit is supposed to actually become the head? Wow, talk about anime magic...

Every Mospeada episode has a couple weaknesses but Ep 8 is probably my favorite in many respects. IIRC the episode ends with the sodliers in the town oblivious to the fact the Inbit have swarmed around them. It basically tells you what happened in the field with Wolf led to the obliteration of all those people... it's kind of chilling.
-
The log raft episode is definitely terrible. I gotta imagine that was an idea that worked without the Legioss in some way, then they were told to add the Legioss and were like "Meh, we'll just put it on the raft too." While the traveling with both jets and motorcycles does seem pretty silly, I wouldn't say they did a horrible job with it. I think the Point K episode also gives you the answer to why they didn't just fly straight to reflex point. Any time any human force tried to accumulate or be direct they get wiped out. By hopping along and hiding their mechs the group is able to avoid Inbit attention. The Inbit are shown to be quite happy turning a blind eye to humans so long as they don't seem aggressive. Not a brilliant show by any means but I still find it fun.

The legs look strange when you extend them. I prefer to leave them as he is displaying also... unless i have VF-1 toys around because having the legs not extended throws the scale off.

Why would you wonder about those Alphas? They're the same old pieces of junk just being used to help drum up sells of the Betas (and, from Toynami's perspective, help sell those old Alphas). Toynami just put out an Alpha WORSE than the original ones, they're not going to start suddenly making better Alphas. That ship has sailed, for the MPCs at least. They'll make a much bigger deal if they have a new or improved product rather than just putting it next to a toy with the same color. Totoro, excellent hypothesis about those seeming toys. You're right, they do look completely non-transformable (the ones we don't recognize at least). I'll bet that's the same deal with that Tread toy we saw that looked roughly 1/35 scale in one of those obscure pictures (since it seemed to match up with that clearly non-transformable Legioss). Now, why did they put a jolly roger on that Legioss?
-
I wonder why they didn't have a Shadow Fighter Alpha in that display. I didn't see anything that would qualify as new on the RT side there though. They did have art up that seemed to confirm that Ariel will be on the Shadow Beta's box.
-
Yes but it also essentially looks like the rider could never even come close to interacting with teh bike in bike mode. I'm also guessing they had issues with certain parts being too small and would potentially break. It looks like every single product on that page is a prototype. The 1/35 ended up having a bronzed canopy in the production model.
-
Looks like a prototype of what became the 1/8 toy to my eyes.

I've updated my Fuke review to include Houquet. Here's a sample pic:

My bad, I didn't realize it had to be something else.
