Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.4
jenius replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
At the risk of being the bearer of bad news, models will nearly always be much more accurate than toys. Bandai has already shown us that they care much more about their toys being things you can play with so you should be expecting lots of compromises with the GBP. So far I think its worked though, the DX is a hot seller and even with that many people handling these toys frequently all we really hear about is paint chipping and a few people who had broken screws. While the screws are lame I'd say that's not really a design problem, just a bum deal on crappy screws that got tightened too much. I just hope the GBP does a really good job of staying together and holding tight to the toy, I'd much rather it do that and not look PERFECT than look PERFECT and blow off in the wind or crack during transformation. -
I think the problem with it looking so over done stems from the fact the 1/60 VF-1J is bleached white. The slightest smudge would go a long way on that bright-ass plastic. That scheme might have worked on something more gray/brown/or olive drab.

I believe the Galaxy Defender was sold at Walmarts... it was pretty common (the VF-1 one) for a while there but I never bought one.

That's not all that much different, you're just not getting screwed by the EMS shipping costs. -
Do you guys remember the series EXOSQUAD?
jenius replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe you guys can clarify for me what is happening in the first episode. So, man made the NeoSapiens, then the NeoSapiens rebelled, then man made peace with them and that peace has been going on for 50 years right? The intro then says the Neosapiens rebel again (IIRC) but that doesn't happen until a few episodes into the first season right? It looked like the one Neosapien was using the pirate menace as a means to get the military out of the way. -

I watched episode 1 on Hulu thinking I'd probably buy the DVDs but it was horrible and confusing. I think it was only confusing because the introduction (the shows opening) seems to take you well beyond the first episode. So, you get the events that are about to happen, summarized for you, then the show starts and those events haven't happened yet. To make things more confusing, similar events have already happened, 50 years ago. Very very odd start to the series. Add the horrid animation to that and I watched the whole episode with one eyebrow up. I might try another couple episodes, so the plot can get past the introduction's summary, but it's definitely not easy to watch with the designs being so bad and the animation worse. -

Even if that thing is PVC, it's thick enough to not be warped unless it were left lying on something (like Alto's lasers from the first release). I'm not really worried. -
If it were limited or something I'd agree. In general though, while I know it's a favorite amongst collectors (because of how frequently it's made) it's just not something a ton of people are going to seek out. If you ask most people "If you could own just one Valk" I'm sure there'd only be a few VF-1Ds, and those people would be hardcore collectors. Now, onto the stuff that did change... the pictures in battroid have largely been corrected, the super valk will be left as is because I like that pic a lot (and think the toy looks better with the chest up a mm.
-
LOL, great, so I could make my VF-1D look worse, you guys figure out the best features! Oh well, if that's how it's supposed to look I guess I can take it out, transform it, press down harder, and snap a new pic for that comparison. I'm still not pushing in the trapdoor on the back. On the .5 on charm, it's a less popular mech for the mainstream (not exactly a hero mech) so I probably wouldn't have changed that score even if us collectors love it.
-
See, people say "Give us bigger pictures!" and when i do they say "you should have tweaked that!" It's a tireless effort. Seriously though, if you're talking about that trapdoor the head goes through during transformation, I thought it was only supposed to be pushed forward when super parts were put on the toys (to eliminate the weight of the super toys pulling back on the back half of the toys). That's the only time I ever recess that trap door as I don't think having it recessed is anime accurate.

Sorry about that guys, I changed the date when I noticed the post got forward dated on me back to the proper date and broke my link. I fixed my linky above and obviously Grand Admiral's works too. Thanks GA

I think it's slightly mistransformed right there though, it looks like the piece the shocks should attach to ought to be rolled up a little higher into that opening.
-
I got mine from Overdrive. Glad to see a series 3.... since series 2 didn't have an insert I was beginning to wonder if the line was going to die. There is no chase figure in VFC2. You get all 12 toys... up from VFC1's 10.
-
There's not much more to add but I've posted some additional pics on Anymoon.com. Overdrive was nice enough to email the pics to me after the event. I can't say enough good things about both Save and Overdrive. - CLICK THIS LINKY TO SEE ADDITIONAL PICS

Yes, my 1J I had a hard time extending the legs fully and that was the issue, the 1D was like butter though. The 1S doesn't have its legs extended in the comparison pic because I skipped GERWALK mode in the transformation so I didn't feel the need... although I guess since I was doing a pic of them all standing together I should have. On the scores - I just didn't feel it was different enough to warrant one, same with the VF-1J.

I think this was my favorite pic in my latest review:

Full review with tons of larger pics is up on my site. Now I'm going to go celebrate my tiny sliver of Irish heritage

There are differences between the Bandai 1A and the Takatoku 1A (in 1/100 scale) but it's pretty clear they used as much of the old mold as possible. Mainly I think they just changed the head a bit to make it less easy to break the antenna but it's been a long time since I looked at both. One of these days I'm really going to need to buy a new tape measure so I can help settle these odd scale debates when they pop up...
-
The irony is that the 1/100 transformable VF-1A toy there was made by BANDAI. So Bandai is both right and wrong in the same picture. Nooch.
-
I kinda did. I was a bit on the fence about ordering it at all, then I saw it would be released domestically and figured I'd just wait it out and hopefully get a domestic release for cheaper than the cost of buying one. As it is now, I never bought the origin valk... but at this point if they released it today I probably still wouldn't buy them until I found them on sale.

I'm pretty sure they are but I'll try to double-check with them and confirm. -
I'm guessing BBTS is going by the old information supplied by Toynami for release dates. That had the Red Beta out at the end of January and instead it came out mid Feb (IIRC). So I would expect at least a couple week delay on the green Beta... I'd guess late April but that's totally just a guess.
-
At the risk of repeating myself yet again, the release order confirmed by Beagle is Stick, Ray, Houquet, Yellow. Anyone who ever said otherwise was going off the information provided by Toynami BEFORE they started working with Beagle.

I know I'm a little late on this but I've just posted an update to my review of the original Yamato 1/60 VF-1D toy that includes a few comparison pics to the V2. Here's a sample A post completely dedicated to the VF-1D should be up in a day or so.
