Oh... so they weren't announcing it because they were skipping that whole "hype with CAD pics" or "sneak in statement with related toy advertising" approach. Looks good... I'm in.

I'm pretty sure Bandai/Tamashii has their own events or more Bandai-centric toy events they attend... I wouldn't read too much into what was shown at Wonderfest.
-
Isn't that the toy that can't sit on its landing gears in fighter mode? I thought I'd like it more than I did.

On the first point, saturation is a factor of demand. If one assumes a new cartoon increases demand the saturation point moves. On the second point, it's hard to say. BigWest is the ultimate licensor and they would have to have something in their contracts with the various toy vendors regarding cancellation if they ever did foresee a remake happening. I doubt any company would have such a cancellation clause (as it would screw the toy company royally) so, more likely, there'd be nothing in the contracts about that so Bandai (assuming they were the sponsor) would almost certainly make new paint schemes or entirely new looks for the VF-1 and receive exclusive rights for the new stuff from BW.

So, you're saying that toy manufacturers would rather have to design all new toys then sell more of the toys they're already making? If I'm Yamato I cream my pants at the idea someone is going to make my niche product more relevant. Besides, it's a new version, there's nothing that says the VF-1 would have to look the way it did in the original... all the original mecha can be reimagined.

Ozma and alto v1 were both reissued about six months after their original releases.

Yes, they definitely should. Even if it's terrible it won't magically destroy the original. If it's wonderful it might help bring another generation into Macross fandom.

I hate to be a picture spammer (well, not really) but Graham: Are you talking about the two guns next to the Rand figure in this pic? They look like they should be in the same tray as Rand... doesn't seem like it should be too easy to just pop out in normal transit.

It does not have forearm filler pieces. The 2 seaters all had the collapsible guns as did all super and gbp variants.

Thank you! I love takin' 'em... and love it even more when they prove helpful.

MacrossWorld Convention 2012 Information Thread
jenius replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
If the date coincides with a visit to my in-laws it'd make a great excuse for ducking out for a while. -
The 171 has like six variants that can be milked... If I'm at Bandai I'm making them.

What about an 11S with 2 head lasers (like the 0S) and instead of one laser sticking out a center notch in the back of fighter mode each laser would stick out its own notch in the back of fighter mode?

A VF-1D with a shoulder crack? Perhaps there's no such thing as a "safe" V2... just "less prone to breaking".
-
There was a custom made and displayed at a show that was a 1/48 with missiles firing.
-
I agree with Graham. The VF-27 isn't as stellar as the V2 VF-25 but its still a good toy. I could think of many other toys I'd rather have than a renewal VF-27.

Not anymore! Sweet customs Kicker!

I get your logic but I really doubt it's true. The Invid items are in hot demand because there are only like 20 of them being sold and they're being sold to resin model-makers... it's a different cup of tea from toy fiends. The incremental costs of releasing more Regults for Toynami were next to nothing after the first version. Putting out a whole new mold is expensive. Other companies sniffed at the Gosu, and considered doing it in vinyl, all have concluded the market just isn't big enough.

I was told not to show pics of these before wonderfest because demand was already too great.

Yamato 1/60 VF-17 Nightmare Diamond Force
jenius replied to charger69's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Man... this is a tough crowd. I'm debating which one I want to keep, the 17S or the 17D (because I'm sure I'll own both at one time but they're so similar I doubt I'll hold onto both). -
Yamato 1/60 VF-19 Fire Valkyrie (v2.0)
jenius replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Looks like it's all molded out of one piece... could actually be a fairly cheap item. They should just include it with a reissue or something and bump the reissue's price up just a tiny bit.
