    Not colored correctly? I haven't seen them in person but the color looks pretty good in that pic above.

    But bad lighting would. You know they have to release the wrong color first so they can give us the right color a year from now. That's mac0 tradition.

    This is why I always tell people that their toys need to be kept in a vacuum. It's the only way to be safe! It also reduces yellowing from oxidation.

    I can't make heads or tails out of what that 'mecha' is. It has a giant proboscis, I'll give it that. If I had infinite time I'd make a drawing of the battloid mode and I know just where that proboscis would end up. It's not often mech designers look at the AGAC from Southern Cross and think "It's just not busy enough." Edit - I'm not trying to say this is an AGAC knock-off, I'm just trying to say that's a busy design.

    Kicking a dead thread but I just watched this and thought it was awful. I wasn't familiar with the source material and I hoped that would help but man... not good. Then I read the original story (which I think would have pretty limited appeal to Western audiences) and it made me like the movie even less. Oh well, better luck next movie.

    Think of all the money that won't go to this because of the way HG has acted toward RT fans. I might have thrown them a few bones if they hadn't been dicks... And more if they had been honest and shown some talent.

    I think the PB Backers are over-reacting but I also think PB has made a series of terrible decisions that has exposed them for the amateurs they clearly are. I suddenly have an interest in this project because I passed only to find my brother invested so he could give it to me. He told me at his birthday party "i've been meaning to give this to you as a gift but I think it's going to be delayed forever."

    I would think WB would want to do this as a legitimate commercial venture. They have the means and the distribution channels. If it all worked out well then they also have the movie rights. It seems like kind of a slam dunk so the fact it's not going down that way seems scary. I know HG would claim it's because they want full control over all aspects of the production but that's kind of ridiculous given their staff.

    Oh yeah, definitely agree on the background music. I'm not saying I prefer one to the other, as sometimes Macross builds a different kind of tension by not having the background music, but I do like the RT background stuff. I still use some of those background themes as ring tones.

    Man... I always thought the voice actors were decent. The singing is a train wreck but I never had a problem with the actors. I mean, watching it on DVDs makes the fact they only had like three different people doing voices stand out pretty clearly but that's not the VAs fault. I mean, comparing Robotech to MacII, Robotech is a good dub compared to the stilted MacII mess. I don't have any problem at all with what Robotech was. I would have loved for Sentinels to have been made. I mean, I still think that scene where Regent says "I believe you" and then hands the dude the bomb is pretty cool. There are too many problems with the property at this point and the fan base is too old from the lack of new content for 29 years for this thing to go on. If HG was rich they should try rebooting the franchise with all new mecha, many new names, and get clear of all the rights problems and have a more coherent take on what Protoculture is and really link things together. That's not going to happen though and there's just no talent at HG strong enough to create a new path.

    You could buy a pretty decent classic car for that scratch... but it wouldn't transform and it'd take up more space.

    I'm guessing they're a smaller operation than Yamato with very limited resources.

    I did define it as the overall tone rather than subject matter for that very reason.

    A lot of backseat driving going on here. "I mean, I have no idea about the economics of running a toy company... but I'm pretty sure the toy company got it wrong." There's a chance you're right... but ya know... there's a pretty good chance you're not. Let's think of this another way rather than the economic choices being made. This is any company's anywhere first effort at making a YF-30. Think back at every first version of a VF toy you've ever bought. Most of you should be cancelling your preorders after that trip down memory lane. While there's been great strides in toy engineering over the years there's still no substitute for experience. The renewal version will kick butt though!
