1. Like I've said, I'm not a fan but I wouldn't go so far as to call it gay. These are primarily children's books and when children get hyped up about something, you just have to sit back and allow it to happen. I mean, when Pokemon blew up, I just shook my head and smiled. Now Yu-gi-oh, that's retarded. But Harry Potter? It's a book, it's harmless and I'd rather see those kids getting into reading, wearing ugly scarves and nerd-glasses rather than begging their parents to buy them trading cards. And as for jumping on the bandwagon, if you're talking about adults, I don't see the harm in that either (I also don't think it's dumb or "gay"). Why is it so stupid for them to love that story so much? Is it any dumber than watching adults who were never into Star Wars as kids start loving the Original Trilogy after watching the Prequels (I know of many like this)
2. Yes, I seriously want to know what's the big deal with this? A book? W...T...F? The way it sounds, all Nintendo needs to do to win back its console-market-share is release the next Harry Potter book, maybe with pictures, on its new system a month before print and it would be back to the old NES-monopoly. 312276 I'm fairly certain no one is holding you at gunpoint to read the thread. If you don't care for the subject matter, just stay out. Is it so hard to do? 312283 I'm saying I curious as to the obsession. I mean, it's a paper book, which can be manufactured easily, and viewed at leasure in its best form, without any worries of showing graphical age. These luxuries don't apply to games and movies, and even few of those are really this in-demand. When I was still interested in the Star Wars novels I enjoyed them, but I would never bother to preorder and wait in line for even the X-Wing Saga. So why do so many people just have to have it? Like you said, if you don't want to answer the question, don't. 312306 I'm not a Potter fan, haven't read any of the books and have only watched the first movie but I'll try to answer your question. The obsession isn't about the book, it's about the story. Potter fans were lining up at midnight to buy the book not because they wanted to be the first ones to own the novel but because they've been waiting for the next part of the story. These people (mostly kids, lots of adults) have to have it because they love the story, the characters and because unlike video games and movies, they can't rely on anything to satiate (is this a word?) their crazed appetites for anything Potter. There are no teaser trailers or demos for these people. They can only read, re-read and read again the first five books that got them to this point. (Well, they can watch the movies, but it's not exactly the same, is it.) If you're someone who has ever been a huge fan of a book, or a book series, you'll understand what it's like to love a story so much that you can't wait to read what happens next.
3. Yamato, I thank thee. Now that I am rightfully employed I pledge to spend much moolah on these tentative re-issues. 'Tis me pledge to thee!
4. Haven't seen it but dang, Bale is so awesome. Thanks for the review!
5. Oh yes, I remember this one. Kinda hard to take this seriously, though.
6. You know, I had serious doubts that we would ever be lucky enough to see anything like this... Dang, so awesome.
7. Not Spielberg's best. I got flamed on another forum for saying this but the action was just so poorly handled. Well, I may have gotten flamed because I compared it to Independence Day but that was because I had just gotten back from watching WOTW and I was a little miffed. The good: The acting was well done and the film stuck to the original story, in a good way. I never cared about Tom Cruise being wacko as long as he did a fine job in the film and he does this here. The bad: I understand what Armentage is saying. Yes, the aliens dying because of their inability to develop natural immunities is an interesting part of the original story BUT in my opinion, it could have been handled a lot better in this remake. The film does a fine job of portraying a sense of terror until the end, when a few military dudes with small arms follows Cruise's advice and huzzah, everybody lives, everybody is happy. Cue Morgan Freeman's voice a la James Earl Jones in the Lord of the Flies episode of the Simpsons, where he says, "And the children were rescued by...oh, I don't know...Moe" and there you have it, roll credits. It felt rushed and poorly executed, especially in comparison to the first 3/4 of the film. Oh and it turns out that if the world is being taken over by aliens, all you have to do is hide out in Boston and you're cool, no worries.
8. Halle Berry sucks and has been sucking for quite a while. Blaine is right. About everything.
9. Saw it last night, loved it. It did a nice job of expanding the Batman universe when compared to Burton and the other loser's films, where the settings were just all Gotham and nothing else. I liked how we have Bruce Wayne travelling the globe in this one in his search for inner peace. Loved the Batmobile but I think that my favorite performance was by Morgan Freeman. Nicely done. Bale did a great job, he really had to carry the movie and he did it well. The ending was great, I can't wait for the next one.
10. TT_TT_PWn3D. I saw that one on Fark. There was also a picture of Sylvester Stallone that said, "You've been StallPwn3D!!" but it didn't look as retarded as it does when I type it out. My point: give up on pinning threads, people, the mods will do it as they see fit.
11. While you're at it, pin all the Batman threads!
12. Jeff Goldblum? I know he's tall and thin... but he's an idiot! And a terrible actor to boot! Batman: You're going down, Joker, it's gotta be that way! Jokerblum: Well, ah, you see, ah - um, well, this is something, uh, well, ah... different - it's an iMac... yes, yes... and it's well, uhm, well, it's rigged. Yes, it's rigged, you see, to uhm, ah, well... destroy something. Yes, destroy something, you see, Batman - can I call you Batman? Great. You see, uhm, well, it's going to destroy the Eiffel tower. Yes. Uhm. Well. Batman: You're a moron. And you talk funny. How did I miss this the first time around? Freakin' hilarious Blaine.
13. I thought Burton's original Batman had a great score. What about this one?
14. Dude, is it me or does that sound almost exactly like the plot for Starship Troopers, the film version?
15. I think we all know what this will lead to: Pleasurebots. C'mon, we know. We know. Oh crap... we're all gonna die... kinda gives a whole new meaning to "Final Fantasy". Look out dude. She's a femmebot. The man on the right is contemplating all of the ways he can take over the world with his newly invented femmebot.
16. I think we all know what this will lead to: Pleasurebots. C'mon, we know. We know.
17. You fool! He has a Ph.D! He has a family! He has contacts in HG! He could crush us! He's valuable to the community!
18. Whatever happened to that dancing baby from Ally McBeal? That thing was hilarious. Or even better, the dancing Jesus from the Simpsons, from that Mr. X episode. Also, if anyone has a good "STFU NOOB" or "STFU" pic, now would be a good time to use it.
19. *raises issue of "canon" continuity of this forum versus the movie version. As long as Kakizaki dies in both the movie forum and the actual forum, it'll be ok.
20. Riiight, and the clone wars were what? Its pretty clear that the Jedis were fighting for what they percieved as good all along. Oh, what's that? In defense of others? Oh my, didn't I just say that? I thought the clone wars was about keeping the Republic from falling apart because planetary systems wanted to leave?
21. Right on Mr. March and Knight. I can totally see something like this gracing the cover for a Tenacious D album. The figure itself seems pretty badass but the harp....is there any way you can make the harp look badass as well? Or am I asking for the impossible?
