So this was where you guys were hanging out today... Reply to the original poster- Ask yourself these questions before you watch M7: 1. Do you like J-Pop/J-Rock? 2. Do you like mecha with faces? 3. Do you prefer repetitive singing over fighting? 4. Do you prefer your heroes fighting giant space monsters (not aliens but monsters)? I could go on but if you answered yes to these four questions, there's a good chance that you'll be able to stomach some of the worst parts of M7.

Well, I don't think that The Simpsons feel they are above it but you're right about the demographics. The Simpsons have had fart and sex jokes but they're like fart and sex jokes aimed towards little kiddies or for the whole family (Marge farts after scolding Bart for doing the same or Marge and Homer giggle under the covers but nothing risque is shown or heard). If I had to generalize, I'd say the Simpsons tend to be silly while Family Guy tends to be shockingly hilarious.

Azrael, nice post and a great read. I heard an interview with Steven Johnson on NPR a while back; pretty interesting guy. I don't really agree with how he started comparing low crime rates to the rise in video game popularity (or maybe he did this on purpose to show how ridiculous it is to equate video game popularity with the things Hillary Clinton is accusing them of) but overall he hit on a lot of good points and I think everyone here agrees with him in one way or another.

Let's all just start guessing as to who will be picked to direct! John Woo?

Ah, Futurama. In some ways, I remember it (perhaps falsely) as the stepping stone between The Simpsons and Family Guy. Futurama had a lot going for it except for mainstream appeal, by which I mean the story wasn't centered around a nuclear family. Hmm, methinks its time to start looking around for Futurama DVDs. On another note, there are things about the "golden" Simpson years that will forever remain funny to me and in a lot of ways, smarter than Family Guy. I'm not trying to compare the two but there have been a few times where a Family Guy episode seemed tiring just because I felt like I had already seen The Simpsons do the same gag.

Jessica Alba Tara Reid Elisha Cuthbert Jennifer Lopez ...just to name a few. Portman may have a lot to answer for with Star Wars, but she's very low on the list of overblown actresses that need to leave popular culture. I swear, parent group/politicians' complaints about too much sex/violence in the media is such a huge effin' copout. Their fear of what could be damaging to their precious little ones is insane. If a huge ass "M for Mature" isn't going to stop them from buying GTA for junior then how is an "AO" label going to stop them? Through all of this kind of shite, I just hear Reverend Lovejoy's wife pleading, "Will somebody please think of the children?"

Wow, those really take me back. I also remember when all you could really find were those pieces of crap and some model kits. Those also remind me of the time when Yamato first announced plans of releasing the Mac+ toys stateside and then Harmony Gold stuck their weiner in Yamato's ear.
