The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Scyla replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can see the image and I can see what you mean by smaller. That is why I posted the image with the measurements. That indicates to me that the designer took the size of MP Lambor into account. This is why I can't imagine why Spinout should be smaller. So maybe our eyes are playing tricks on us. I guess we have to wait until someone has it in hand because from my latest information the current pictures are from a near final test shot. They could be outdated though.- 9279 replies

Given the measurements in this image he doesn't look that much different in size than Lambor: So I always assumed he was the same size as Lambor. On the new products shot he looks smaller though.- 9279 replies

I didn't knew that they are doing Breath of Fire figures. Breath of Fire 2 and 3 where the parts I played the most so those characters would have a bigger impact on me (especially Nina, Katt and Bleu from BoF 2 ) but she looks neat.

I'm not a big fan of the color orange but the paint job on the YF-25 really works for me. Gorgeous photos as always Saburo! -
Macross World Podcast - feedback & comments
Scyla replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I've listened to the recording of the US Rendition panel at Macross World Con. While I firmly believe that the dub for Macross 2 is making the OVA look worse than it is I have not a lot more appreciation for the work they have done now. Seeing under what circumstances they had to pump out the dubs was quite an insight. Great job guys, keep them podcasts coming.- 1147 replies

I think what makes Wardog a success is that a rather large tank shrinks down to such a small robot. Not the same level of the mass shifting on Animated Lockdown but still a good effort. Sadly they forgot a mechanism for the chest gun to collapse. Anyhow I payed for my Perfect Effect Xerxes a Nemesis colored version of their Leonidas (Lio Convoy). The Leonidas version had many questionable design decisions resulting in many reports of breakages but they seem to have strengthened all the parts that where prone to breaking: The real bummer is that he doesn't come with the die-cast swords and their sheaths (instead he has two Katar style daggers). Hopefully another company will do recasts of them one day. I just recently ordered some of the Eness die cast swords for MMCs Terminus Hexatron so maybe they will do the same for this toy. I'm looking forward to this figure (now it sits happily in my pile of loot). I will looking at the message boards if the toy is really less likely to break so I can determine if I risk moving any joints or even attempt to transform him. If this sells well PE might have an incentive to do a (black and teal) Big Convoy in the same style. I would buy it.- 9279 replies

Yeah, no way that shuttle fin moves from its place to the combiner peg on the robot without partsforming. I'm personally not a huge fan of partsforming but some fans seem to have no problem with it. Their argumentation is that it was there from the early days of the franchise. While this is true (G1 Seekers) I think this is not the preferred way of doing it. In the past partsforming had to be done due to limitations in engineering and missing expertise but today there should not be such an excuse with HasTak having 30 years of experience under their belt. I also don't get why it is there in the first place. I would be totally fine with Blast Off having the fins on the back of the legs with a hinge so they could fold up. Same goes for the fins on cyclonus. I would have preferred it if they either remolded the arms so that they have the fins or at least mold some pegs into the outside of the arms to that they don't have to be stuck into his fists.- 17164 replies

I saw this mod for MP Tracks over at TFW (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/1031676-masterpiece-tracks-630.html#post13291174) It looks way better with the backpack collapsed: There are two downsides. Firstly you have to cut some stuff away to allow this movement which might lead to instabilities in the other modes. Secondly it robs Tracks of his signature dome over his head. On the other hand with the official configuration there is not much of a resemblance to begin with and to me it looks much better. I'm not too keen on cutting my Masterpiece toys but I was wondering why Takara purposefully molded in small nubs to prevent the backpack from collapsing. Maybe a third party company will do a replacement trunk for him. It would be a bit difficult to install due to all the pins but at least they're not the hollow type. Honestly I would prefer a totally new trunk that is able to transform into Tracks head dome but I'm not sure if they would be able to match the color perfectly. I think there could be a market for it because there is a company that did a small run for Maketoys Quantron (Computron) weird L-shaped strut in the back that folds up into a cleaner shape.- 17164 replies

Macross Δ (Delta) - NYE Special Talkback - READ 1st POST

Well it doesn't hurt to ask NY directly about canceling. They have a chat service on their site. You could ask them kindly there if it would be possible to cancel your order. If they don't want to lose you as a customer maybe you can get a deal from them.
-
Usually NY sends out payment requests two weeks in advance. This would indicate that the VF-2SS is being released in mid February. If they've given you a deadline for the payment you can wait a bit. Don't forget to pay before the deadline is due otherwise NY might cancel your account and all other preorders you have with them. If I remember correctly it also becomes incredibly hard to cancel a preorder without repercussions once the payment request is out so be aware.

We have an image of some of the add-on parts: It seems like they are gray and similar to the Macross Plus/7 packs. I can spot the boosters on the wings (obviously) and leg armor of some sorts. If you compare this with the naked RVF-31 you can spot two thruster nozzles on the legs and armor plating that has the same color of the boosters. They are more on the simple side especially since we got so elaborate Super/Tornado/Armor Packs with Frontier. I think the Armored VF-25 makes Frontier awesome (and the music and costume changes of course ). [edit:] as you can spot on the second picture the radome transforms not as smoothly as the other containers. It does not transform into a smooth surface on the aft fuselage. After looking at the other VF-31 none of them has a smooth surface in the back unlike the YF-30:

While I agree with you I find it a bit surprising that people didn't expect what we saw in the preview Episode. I honestly was surprised to see that much Valkyrie on Valkyrie action and not more focus on Walkure. Even when looking at past installments I think that Macross 7 is not one extreme of Macross it is rather the norm with SDF:M/DYRL and Plus being the outliers. Especially when you look at the success of May'n and Megumi Nakajima and the music of Frontier in general a music centric show had to be expected. Especially when you look at the success of the idol groups in Japan. Don't forget the man behind Delta did also AKB0048 which got two seasons green-lit. I don't need suspension of disbelief to accept what the Walkure girls do in Delta. Mikumo could be a Grace like cyborg and all the tech you can already see in action during the concerts in Frontier. Not used on the battlefield but still present. During the preview episode the other girls looked really stressed during the battles so I got a real sense of danger from the scene. To weaponize singing is the logical consequence in this universe with singers as soldiers on the field. If you're hung up about the Sailor Scout dresses I can't help you. However since we all saw Reina in her flight gear before landing in the city we can assume that they all wear body armor underneath. Regarding the mecha news. Booo to the reveal of the VF-171. We need new cannon-fodder mechs. [edit:] I want to clarify that I can understand if this iteration of Macross is not for you but I was surprised about some of the feedback after the preview episode. I don't know if I will like Macross Delta but I will reserve my final judgment until I saw the whole show.

I wonder if Hasbro will release a Beast Wars MP Megatron as a follow-up to MP Optimus Primal. I would be totally down for it (the Megatron that is). On the other hand I'm in desperate need for a G1 MP Megatron. Sadly Apollyon doesn't cut it. XTransbots got the face right though. That got me thinking. In a video review of Baltmatrix he shows the inlay of a G1 reissue: The Optimus Prime and Bumblebee look suspiciously like MP Convoy and Bumble so I thought maybe an Takara G1 MP Megatron could look like the line art in this image. And that looks really good. Oh well Maketoys is doing Despotron and they just reveled the line-art for that. I hope Takara announces G1 Megatron before Maketoys releases him.- 17164 replies

I agree that other companies are far worth in that regard. For example in Transformers Dark of the Moon you had to read the comic to know who Shockwave is becasue the movie clearly didn't tell you anything about him and why he is the villain of the movie. Why is Megatron a truck and in Africa, etc. etc. So while it is not as bad as this the movie has some problems explaining a coherent story and deliberately mislabels stuff up to make it more like Ep 4. At least that is my experience. Again it is not a bad movie, it is actually pretty enjoyable but it is in no means perfect and I feel that it is ok to talk about it. And to think that Episode 7 is not a carefully crafted experience create by Disney to press as much money out of us as possible is a bit delusional naive. This is not bad but there are some problems that stems from this and it is a thin line to walk on. Starting in medias res is a valid approach for telling a story but you had to adapt your storytelling to make it work. The movie feels a bit clunky that is all I'm trying to say!

I think Macross is a good comparison because Delta looks like Frontier (and Episode 7 looks like the OT) but they have different themes. Where Deltas theme is teamwork or group effort Ep 7 theme is ripoff nostalgia.

All I'm asking is consistency. We see how spaceships leave hyperspace in Episode 6 thus a beam of matter has to act the same way and not draw beautiful colors on the screen. Oh well, I take everything back what I said so far and argue the opposite.

Check, I missed this part in the movie. While I'm still not 100% convinced of the way it was displayed in the movie. I mean if it travels at above light speed it shouldn't look like a beam of plasma depicted in the scene.

I meant that I don't like the general design of the Vic Viper in robot-mode. It looked rad as a star fighter in game but the robot design is kinda questionable for me. -

I would probably be on board for an Ardjet and a Nephtis/Neith. The Vic Viper is a bit too wonky for me in robot-mode but if it can transform into a proper Vic Viper I would think about it. -
I have no problem with accepting that it is fantasy but at least they should keep their fantasy consistent. If the Falcon needs to travel through hyper space to get to the next star system so would anything else with mass need to travel through hyperspace if they don't want to be slow. Thus the beams from the Starkiller Base would take years to get to a different system if they where not in close proximity. This is just lazy writing. It wasn't that jarring while watching the movie but thinking about it now leaves me baffled. It is still an enjoyable movie though.

Can it move through hyperspace? If so was the official version: Starkiller Base sucks up sun, jumps to system where the Senate is, burps out some plasma and than leaves the system? It still seems like a clunky plot device to me.
