  1. The whole fin+hinge comes out easily (even accidently), but the hinge itself (coppery-plastic) is pinned to the fin (molded in off-white), and my efforts to remove the pin to remove the coppery-hinge so as to have access to the part of the hinge molded to the fin (the whitish part) were unsuccessful. And I didn't want to try to hand-paint the area, I wanted "lacquer spray or nothing" in an area subject to wear, and that pretty much meant spraying black or nothing. So I went with "nothing".
  2. Am I the only one who wants a DARK YF-21? Why are 90% of toys so much lighter than the anime? It was practically navy blue in many scenes, and never the bright blue we see in most recent toys. I think the first Yamato/Toycom was the only one that ever got the main color right.
  3. I would have liked to paint the fin's hinge, but it was impossible to remove the pin, and it'd be almost impossible to match the dark copper color anyways, so I left it as-is.
  4. Bandai will up their game and announce it's already sold out BEFORE they announce the price and date... ::edit:: Also merged threads before either got too big, and merged title.
  5. Hmmmn----too much black? Matching the tailfins closer might have looked better but would be difficult to paint.
  6. They also have a YF-30 mold, and NEVER used it again, despite multiple amazing schemes out there from the games. :p (and since they made -29's from the games, clearly they're ok with using schemes only seen in games)
  7. M3 has a mix of amazing schemes (VF-11) and terrible ones (VF-4).
  8. A small preview/update. The panel lines are basically done, a few spots need redoing/tweaking. Lines are not quite as "crisp" as I'd like, but I'd rather have too soft than too stark.
  9. Mine got loose hips while sitting in fighter mode, completely bare.
  10. It may not be very canon for a VF-4, but a flightsuit Misa could be quite interesting.
  11. I'm happy to see Liza has her scarf.
  12. Yeah, the -25/29 diecast shoulder bits are "unintuitive" to get lined up, but you almost always can get them to fit with very little gappage. But it does tend to require "adjust them to where you think is right, THEN swing arm assembly into place". Trying to adjust the shoulders after the arms are in fighter mode doesn't tend to work well----have to swing the arms back out, adjust shoulder, swing arms back in.....
  13. Just my personal desire for a bit more color, a bit more like "every other valk"---pretty much all other valks have accent colors on their ventral fins----and the VF-4's are huge but bare. It's IMHO the most obvious place to make it a less "all white" valk.
  14. Started painting the ventral fins last night. Annoyingly, per my personal color chart, signal red is a perfect match for the stripes on the thighs/tailcone----but I accidentally left the cap a little loose a while ago and the bottle dried out----and that paint is now "extinct". Vallejo RAL3001 red was the closest match I could find at the hobby shop, but it's still SLIGHTLY more orange than the thigh paint. But a good match for the kite logos.
  15. Never noticed it before, but found it in a another scene too. They're clearly red----but not sure they're lights? Can't really think of a real-world equivalent for round red lights on the underside of a fighter.
  16. Not sure what you mean? I do plan to paint the "obvious-what-they-are-but-not-painted-as-such" landing lights on the wing leading edge. (Normally Yamato/Arcadia goes so far as to mold them as separate clear parts---but for the VF-4, it's like they didn't realize what they are)
  17. VF-4 is pretty bland, especially in battroid IMHO----seriously thinking about painting the ventral fins black with a red edge, as is "proper" for a Hikaru valk. It may not be canon, but canon is only like 4 seconds... (and, real military CAG/CO planes tend to get many subtle variations frequently--you can easily see small details of the paint scheme change over the course of a single year/cruise)
  18. The 10 mins of the new Frontier short has more feels and more impactful music than all of Zettai. Just imagine if it'd been reversed----10 mins of Delta, a full new movie for Frontier...
  19. How's the Maisto F50? Is it a newer mold, or "still being used from when the F50 came out"?
  20. I think I got the last one, it's out of stock now. (Hobby Search--all the other "main" dealers seem to have run out a while ago of the regular version, just $$$$ premiums left)
  21. Everyone's writing in Grace, right? In the other characters section?
  22. It's here! One missile had popped off (I was worried when I heard a piece rattling around inside) but it seems ok so far. Good thing I bought my mechanical pencil yesterday, I can start panel-lining it soon. (after I get some experience handling/transforming it though)
  23. Yes, but EMS etc from Japan isn't cheap, and BBTS has like $4 shipping, so the difference when shipped could end up being about half that. (it's actually a bit better deal than I was expecting---I was fully prepared for it to be a full $300 in the US)
