  1. I sold mine. I thought the landing gear was too small. The plane was low to the ground just like the newer version from Toynami (I think). I believe some here call it a beached whale.
  2. He's right too. It's a different audience. The Star Trek reboot got the "I want to see stuff blow up" audience. Which is fine but they are the people that are praising this as the best Star Trek. Which it isn't. I'm sure they'll say the same about the sequel too. I think I said it or someone else here did. But Prometheus is a better Star Trek movie than reboot. It deals with exploration, discovery, and moral topics far better. It's a better, more enjoyable movie too. I'm sure I mentioned that the cinematography is better. But I do like the cinematography in Star Trek. I picked up the ASC on it, although it was only $1. Really? What is the moral in the reboot. Shoot at your enemies when they are defeated? The guy who is the voice of reason to say "not this time" when asked if he wants to send a rescue party. There is no real moral play in the reboot. If there is it's very thin and played for action. Similar to that turbolift scene with Spock and how fast he gets from the back of the Enterprise to the bridge.
  3. Actually yes. The cartoon movie might not be perfect. Maybe they did go too far with the fantasy and new characters. And I think some of the episode movies are probably better. I haven't seen them in a while. But cartoon movie is certainly better than Rise of Cobra which is a really dumb action movie with some twist/surprises that I can't believe they thought would be good. Same here. Resolute is awesome. They should have made a series out of it. I thought Renegades fell apart towards the end. I lost interest. But I did like some of the character designs.
  4. No clue. They seem to be a good desktop size. Definitely bigger than the Happinet versions I was thinking about getting. Probably not as big as the ones that fit the Motoko figure. But not as dramatic as this Motoko and Tachikoma statue. I did have a little Tachikoma icon image on my desktop but changed it to streamline things. I want some kind of Tachikoma to go with my Ghost in the Shell setup and computer stuff. I already have a Motoko desktop which I'll probably use forever. I use it for day and night and the image even has day and night versions! I just need a high resoluton version. Perhaps the 3D version one day. Weren't you going to do a review on the Blu-ray box set of DYRL? I think I read your post on fandompost. This Motoko sketch is beautiful.
  5. I read a funny review on Aint it Cool about Lady Jaye in this movie. But they didn't even get her hair right so I'm not expecting much.
  6. Oh well, I guess I'll get the individual CDs. They are still expensive too.

    Macross figures

The Ishtar design was one of the better parts of Macross 2. I think I have a few posters on heavy paper with her. Maybe from Harmony Gold or Books Nippan? I can't remember. Anyway, someone could make a nice statue of Ishtar. Clayburn Moore for instance. Yeah, this will be a hot seller when released. Someone post here or in the anime figure section if they see word of a pre-order date.
  8. I'm watching G.I. Joe the movie cartoon now. It's better than Rise of Cobra and I'm 100% sure better than this sequel too. I heard spoilers about this one when it was delayed last year. I'll only watch this for free when it shows up on cable.
  9. That Good Smile one is the one I remember. I was hoping the Motoko figure was more detailed. I'll just stick to the revoltech version. I'll try to find a cheap one. It has trick that makes it stick to walls. I have a few ideas.
  10. You said it better than I could. Deep Space Nine isn't Starfleet so why are they calling it Star Trek? Didn't one of the writers go on to create another space station type show? Deep Space Nine is an example of what happens when people want to go "explore" other parts of a creative property's universe and lose what the property means. I think Deep Space Nine realized it later in the show, that's why they made the Defiant. Also, Abrams Star Trek was a by the numbers production which had almost no chance of failing. They got Abrams to direct and all his fans, restarted/rebooted/whatever you want to call it with the original crew, made it look slick and cool, had popular people visit the set (Spielberg and others), got Leonard Nimoy (who I believe didn't want to be in Generations), and the usual good teaser trailers. Also, that teaser trailer is one of the best. Making the film one of the biggest let downs. It is very similar to the Star Wars prequels trailers and the resulting films. Abrams Star Wars will be even more successful than Star Trek. And sadly people will talk about how Abrams saved both of these properties. When the truth is, when something is creatively at zero. It doesn't take much to save it when you have a back to basics approach, marketing backing you up, and people believing (rightfully or not) that the past films were horrible. That Generations scene with Picard is sad and one of the best parts of the movie. I believe he was in tears. But it made the movie even more disappointing and Picard's character lame. Since Picard goes into the time/space ribbon and can choose to go where ever he wants.
  11. Is the second one up for order? I remember seeing a prototype somewhere. I'm not sure if this is it. Artgerm makes some pretty drawings. I can't wait to see what else Sideshow has him work on. I think Harley Quinn and Catwoman are next. He drew some really pretty Supergirl and Power Girl images recently. http://artgerm.deviantart.com/gallery/
  12. Anyone know what is the best tachikoma model? Is it the Revoltech? I think I remember seeing a version with a small Motoko that fits in the back. Not sure.
  13. When I saw the episode, I just didn't like how far the character was going away from Star Trek/Starfleet ideals. I believe there is a black ops episode of Deep Space Nine too. I can't remember if it happened before or after this episode. It just seemed to be going away from Star Trek and into Space Station Politics. I think I liked the show for a while too. I was trying to find my database entry of where that Gold Book VF-1S poster is and noticed that I own a signed Deep Space Nine lithograph. I have to dig that up and see who signed it.
  14. Honestly, I would rather have a series die then for it to be rebooted like Star Trek. Maybe the next movie will be good. Maybe. But putting a spin on Khan (if it's him) and one of the best revenge/sci-fi movies of all time is not the best idea for even the best directors. Abrams tried to introduce a bit of Khan in the Nero character. So this will be attempt number two. Some stories in Deep Space Nine were good. But around here is where I stopped watching: That heart you talk about is what is in many of the great movies. They allow characters to develop. They don't string along action sequences that don't have much meaning because you don't care about the characters. Aliens is like this. James Cameron talks about it a bit in the intro and commentary. Many will say that young people can't watch older movies. I saw a post on Neogaf from a first watcher of Wrath of Khan talking about how the movie is slow. I saw Wrath of Khan in theaters and I wasn't even near ten years old. I remember being scared. Not bored. I vaguely remembered the Khan TV episode I think. I think Prometheus is a far better space exploration movie. It looks beautiful too. There were a few pretty shots in Star Trek but every shot in Prometheus is stunning. I just checked wiki and Prometheus cost less and made more than Star Trek. I haven't seen Super 8 yet. Maybe it will surprise me.
  15. Says the creator of the show. Gene Roddenberry said it in an interview I watched a while back. Some of the influences of Star Trek are also in moral tales like Forbidden Planet. I think Star Trek started to lose people when they started the heavy techno babble in Next Generation. Then they continually wanted to show that the Star Trek universe isn't perfect so we got Deep Space Nine then Voyager. I believe the original Voyager premise was they had to work with their enemies and were far away from The Federation just like Deep Space Nine. Enterprise they probably realized they were losing people and wanted to restart. Calling it just Enterprise at first to get new people. Star Trek to me isn't just Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. It's cool characters and adventures. That was lost with all the so so TV series. The reboot kind of gets back to that but misses the moral part. I don't want to get into the character problem again. But it is a big problem that I don't understand how fans of Star Trek ignore.
  16. Because Star Trek is supposed to be a moral tale and the new Star Trek lacks that. It completely missed the point of why Kirk and Spock are cool too. Of course, people will say this is a alternate universe. A retelling, etc. But why not make new characters with these new character traits instead of changing Star Trek. It's lazy and shows a lack of creativity. I actually like the Next Generation TV show. I thought the movies were bad. Nothing but movie length TV shows. But TNG didn't have that character interaction like the original with Kirk, Spock, and Bones. I didn't like Deep Space Nine that much. I stopped watching it about 2 or so seasons in. Voyager I started watching it when the blonde borg with big youknowwhats showed up. I thought the show was ok. I think I put it on my list to watch from the beginning. I watched Enterprise from the first season. I stopped after the beginning of the second season I think. Boring show. The fact that originally they didn't want to call it Star Trek Enterprise says a lot about how Star Trek was trying to get a new audience. I guess they have that new audience now with this reboot. Another thing, when I was watching the end part of the trailer. I felt nothing. I thought wow that looks cool. But not man that's happening or any sort of real emotion. Why? Because there is no attachment to the ship like in the originals. Kirk hasn't been developed to love this ship. Maybe it will happen in the beginning on this movie. But even if you never saw the TV show. And I probably only watched a good handful of episodes before seeing Wrath of Khan in theaters and Search for Spock on VHS. But both times I felt like that shouldn't be happening. I felt more for the Next Generation Enterprise in Generations and that was destroyed just so they could make a new ship. La Forge pretty much turned in his cool engineering badge with his "coolant leak, there's nothing I can do" line. Something I use everytime I see a disaster and get away as fast as possible. And Generations is a bad movie by the way. But it was good rewatchable action in the originals. Stuff like the Khan fight and how both Kirk and Khan have a thing for hiding in door corners. Kirk's crazy fight with the Andorian when he kind of jumps off the wall. I wanted to like this Star Trek movie but it still felt like Abrams doing cool stuff but not memorable stuff. If you get what I'm saying. It's like the difference between the Maverick motorcycle shots in Top Gun vs the Ethan Hunt motorcycle shots in Mission: Impossible III. And this is even though I like the motorcycle stuff in Mission: Impossible II. Second that. So many interiors were "modern" that it was disappointing.
  17. I saw this OP posted a while back on Neogaf. I thought it was just another trailer. I guess it's ok. Not as good as the SAC openings.
  18. You know what would be clever? But probably won't happen. If the main bad guy in this movie is just one of Khan's people and the final scene/reveal is of Khan. But that's not going to happen. True, but I didn't really realize Abrams almost I don't give a crap feeling on the whole thing until seeing the last parts in the trailer and Spock as action hero. Me too. Beautiful movie with a few problems. But far more Alien and Aliens compared to this Star Trek reboot/alternate universe.
  19. After watching the latest trailer which looks cool but is just about as far from Star Trek as possible. I finally realized something. It doesn't matter if this is Khan or not. This is Abrams alternate universe that he created to play around with the Star Trek characters. Anything can happen for whatever crazy reason. In this universe, Khan (if it's him) could be a genetically engineered soldier working for the Federation (which it seems like).
  20. So nothing Mospeada related came out recently? I was hoping for that big expensive thing that was hinted at.
  21. I think I might have Mikimoto's signature on a Gunbuster book. I got it a long time ago. I couldn't read or understand Japanese back then. I need to take a look. It's boxed away somewhere.
  22. Anyone think that it is time to give up on the idea of a complete soundtrack box for Macross Frontier? I believe it's been about two years since the last CD release. I was positive that they were going to release a complete box set for the anniversary. But I guess not. The Ghost in the Shell Box was released a year or so after Solid State Society. That still hasn't had a complete release either. It probably would have been cheaper to get a box set too over the individual releases for Macross Frontier.
  23. I do think that those pillows with anime characters, life sized blow up dolls (I think they are blow up), and mouse pads with girl's padded area is taking it too far. Many statues go too far for that matter. There is a site that shows a lot of this stuff on occasion called Sankaku Complex. They had an anime bag that I couldn't believe a month or so ago. But we haven't seen anything yet. I bet fairly soon, we'll see the replicants, sexaroid, etc. for real. That will be scary or cool depending on how you look at it. I remember an episode of Ghost in the Shell SAC when Motoko goes to see a hacker. He has a bunch just hanging out. Although it's bound to backfire on us just like it does in all the shows like Ghost in the Shell, Bubblegum Crisis, Blade Runner, etc. Back to figures, is there a good Jun Gatchaman figure out there? I can't believe all these classic animes aren't getting figures.
  24. She's the first really cute figure in my collection. I was debating not getting her originally. I thought the panty display was a little bit too much. But everything else is really well done. Love the base. And when I saw the secondary prices, I couldn't resist the re-release. She'll go with my other videogame statues that are all from fighting games. Revy from Black Lagoon. I usually don't like tattoos that much either. She's one of the rare characters that are cool with tattoos. The others are Star Wars characters. Which I'm not sure if they have tattoos or just face paint. I like the leggings on that Velvet figure. Really detailed. I have a feeling when Dragon's Crown comes out we'll see some of those characters in statue form. Especially the Sorceress. Though I think the Elf will be a better statue. Not as over the top. The person that did this statue could make a good Slave Leia statue. I still haven't seen one that I really like yet.
  25. Picked up the re-release of Momohime from Muramasa before she gets expensive again. Really cute figure. The base is simple but really well done too.
