  1. I'll have to check that place out the next time I visit Tokyo.
  2. Maybe the large chests are so the women won't hurt themselves when thrown from their seats when the ship gets hit.
  3. Too bad that Expo isn't happening the weekend that I'll be in LA.
  4. I don't know how well the new animated film managed to do, but the live-action movie doesn't come out until December of this year.
  5. Even at 12600, it's cheaper than any PG kit!
  6. Not to mention the fact that Milia wasn't piloting it anymore. Stupid Gamlin got it wrecked!
  7. Ah yes, the Doug Bendo argument that the VF-1 is more powerful than a VF-11 and the VF-17 is only as good. I had this one out with him around December when he was posting on RT.com under a different name. I was using the stats of the three fighters right off of the Macross Compendium, but of course, I was immediately dismisseded because, to quote him, "it's just another case of Macross fans making up their stats to try to prove that Macross mecha is superior to Robotech mecha." His "evidence" that the VF-1 is more powerful is solely based on the fact that in Macross 7, the VF-11 squadrons were beeing wiped out by the Varuta mecha, but the single VF-1 was able to beat them fairly easily, totally ignoring the fact that it was because it was Milia flying it and not some no-name UN Spacy pilot.
  8. I think that the MG Sazabi is perfect just the way it is. Even the movie made the Sazabi look like it was supposed to be a pretty bulky machine. At least to me it did. Are the Geara Doga, Jagd Doga, and Jegan so unpopular that there still isn't a MG kit for them after all these years?
  9. The Sinanju is one pretty sexy model. I still have to finish mine, though. I'd say it's about 98% complete. I originally got lazy and used the foil decals for all the gold trim, but actually got the sense to go back and remove them so I could actually paint the gold detail.
  10. No problem! I think it took me about 45 minutes of restarting that fight to get death to hit, while other fights, I'll only have to use it two or three times.
  11. That little white building with the curves is the Shinjuku Washington Hotel which just happens to be where I stayed on my first two visits to Japan. I always think it's neat when someone else posts pictures of place I'm familiar with. The neat thing about my trips is that they've been far apart enough for me to see how much Tokyo has changed over the past 19 years. Back when I first visited in 1991, there were very few skyscrapers in Tokyo. Save for Shinjuku, there were probably only about a dozen or so skyscrapers that dotted the landscape in various places. Thanks to all the new skyscrapers these days, the view of Shinjuku from Tokyo Tower is pretty much completely obscured. It's kind of sad, actually.
  12. Although it may take a long time and some retries, spamming Vanille's Death spell is pretty much your only hope at this time.
  13. I haven't seen this movie in almost 20 years. I always loved how the jet fighters in it had the same color scheme as the Macross cannon-fodder Valkyries.
  14. I'm planing on the GN-X for my next MG kit. I still have yet to build the 1/144 scale version of that I've had since February of last year. It's strange as I don't usually sit on Gundam models this long.
  15. Very nice! I can't wait to see the finished product!
  16. From what I saw from the link, it's just high-speed time trials.
  17. I remember getting the DYRL International Version (before it was edited as Clash of the Bionoids) about a year after I had seen DYRL in raw Japanese for the first time. I only watched it twice. Once just to fully understand the movie, and a second time to show a couple of friends. After that, I have no idea, nor care, what happened to the tape.
  18. Damn, Hiriyu, I wish that I lived way out by you! I'd love to take my SE-R SpecV out there to actually see what she can do. There isn't anywhere near me that would ever allow this. Oh, sure, we have plenty of race tracks out here in NJ, but nothing anywhere near what I'm sure you have out in AZ. Speaking of NJ race, Formula Drift (yeah, I know people's opinions of drifiting, here )always has one of its rounds in my home town, Wall, NJ.
  19. You know, Valkyrie Nut, I have almost the same exact shot in my pictures from Tokyo Tower! See? I'm hoping to get to Japan sometime this year. I was originally hoping to go this month, but it looks like I might have to wait until later this summer, or sometime in November. My next trip will be to a destination that I've never been before, Fukuoka. A very close friend of mine is currently living there, and I've been given an open invitation to stay with him anytime I want. Actually, Lott, the only thing I want to do is wake up one day to find that all the anime I've been watching will have suddenly given me the ability to speak fluent Japanese! Of course, if I actually got off of my butt and took some Japanese classes, I'd probably be fluent by now. Sadly, I've been saying this for the past 20 years or so. It could be worse, though, at least I've been able to get myself to Japan every couple of years.
  20. I played a couple of games a few nights ago, and as usual, had my ass handed to me. I will be the first to admit that even though I suck at multiplayer FPSs, I still enjoy them. For me a good game is getting one ore two kills, three or more kills in a game is a great game for me!
  21. Even though I was very much around then, I couldn't tell you since, for my first two years as an anime fan was a lonely time period. I can safely say that during that time period, I was the only anime fan that I knew. Some of my friends saw some anime, but no where near as much as I did. They thought Robotech was pretty cool, but none of them seriously got into it. What everyone was familiar with, however, was Voltron, GI Joe, and Transformers, so it wasn't like they hated animated TV shows. As I stated earlier, even without Robotech, I probably would have found Macross on my own. Certainly, Robotech at the time alerted me to Macross' existence, but it was seeing the opening battle of DYRL at a sci-fi convention that opened my eyes to its Japanese origins. I even remember the very first scene of DYRL that I saw, which was were Max destroys two Regulds, and rips the pilot out of the third one and shoots the poor guy in the head. I can even describe my thoughts at the time. "Wait, that's Macross isn't it? I don't remember this scene in the TV show, but that fighter sure looks familiar! I have to find out what this is!" If I hadn't seen Robotech first, the only thing that would have been different was: "What the hell is this? I have to find out what it is so I can buy it!"
  22. Not to mention that expats make up such a small portion of the population. Last I heard, expats make up less than 1 percent of Japan's population. Doesn't seem like a very favorable argument for including English subtitles on Japanese DVDs or Blurays.
  23. My PSN name is the same as it is here. Nice and easy, isn't it?
  24. Not really. Even without Robotech, I would have discovered Macross only a year later. My first exposure to Japanese Macross was at a science-fiction convention in New York City in November of '86 where I saw a bootlegger showing DYRL at his stand. Plus, around the same time there were quite a few cheap Macross toys being sold in Toys R Us. Back in the 80s I remember seeing the Mospeada bikes and Legioss toys long before Robotech ever even aired. I also remember even seeing Dougram, Orguss, and Dunbine toys in my local Toys R Us store before Robotech.
  25. I only bought the ADV release for two reasons. One: Mari Iijima reprising her role as Minmay; Two: Due to the cracking in some of the hubs in the AnimEigo set, I wanted the ADV set as the watched set to preserve the AnimEigo set.
