  1. As a general rule, most companies look the other way when it comes to fan-produced derivative content, as they know they are loyal to their IP, and the works can often serve as free publicity. When it comes to Macross, Harmony Gold claims ownership even though they created nothing and still create nothing, so all they have to go on is the hope that someone dares to make a fan-produced work so that they can send a cease-and-desist letter, and sometimes, a demand that all of your labour of love be handed over to them for exploitation. The better, more polished your work is, the more of an online buzz it'll create, and the more interested in seizing control HG will be, because they literally have nothing else in the world to do. I would love to see what you can come up with, but you better make sure you share it within closed circles and that the Three Stooges never see it. They're always hungry for content. If you think I'm exaggerating, just do a search on the Argentinian fan-movie that HG shut down, then managed to rope in the artists to create the visuals for their Kickstarter project, which then bit the dust because nobody supported them because everyone knows they are nothing but IP trolls making a living off everyone else's creativity. I honestly, sincerely wish you good luck.
  2. Update --- I played it for a bit more, and yes, Hikaru and Misa turned up again after they were introduced in the narrative. Then Minmay came back after the mission where you have to rescue her. So it looks like some weird thing where you can use any character unless they are central to that particular chapter/quest. Weird. My question is, though, what would happen if you have selected such a character as your main pilot, not just a wingman? Obviously you don't just disappear... Maybe the game crashes?? Anyway, Vepariga -- Do you have Ranka yet? If you do, use her ability and she will freeze the enemies making all the eggs and spikes easier to take out. If not, make sure you try to max out the stats on the speed, accuracy and number of missiles payload in the hangar before you go out. Actually, you should do that anyway, as you need to do it all quickly. If it goes on for too long, he will eventually get you with that cheap one-shot-kill laser.
  3. I did a write up on this program a couple of years ago on the MW Main Page, see here: http://www.macrossworld.com/countdown-to-dyrl-on-bd-a-look-back-at-2005s-bs-anime-yawa-macross-do-you-remember-love-tv-special/ In fact, there is already an entire thread on the subject here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf//index.php?showtopic=37167
  4. Mommar, like Bariaburu Faita said, it is neither a horns symbol nor a shaka, it is the kira sign from Macross Frontier. Specifically, Ranka does it in the song "Seikan Hikou (Interstellar Flight)", and it became a widespread meme. (By the way, Frontier aired seven years ago... )
  5. The interesting thing about this exhibition is that it is government-funded. I heard from someone involved that there are plans for this exhibition to be held abroad, too, regularly as part of a run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Which makes me wonder as to the fate of the Macross-related content....
  6. The Tenjin Zero art was in the Valkyries book; the Sortie one was the second book, with Frontier stuff in it. (That's why it's called "Second Sortie").
  7. This is my second playthrough. And I don't think they died, I'm sure I would have noticed, it's more like they just disappeared, it's weird. Plus, support characters shouldn't be able to die -- they're supposed to be in the same valk as me, so I would have to die! Unfortunately I saved over the file before I noticed those characters were missing, so I can't retrieve the old game file now. I'm at the stage of the game where we are about to fold over to the glacier, where I'm told is where Misa & Hikaru show up, so perhaps they will be selectable again after this.
  8. Reviving this thread for a quick question... Has anyone had problems with disappearing wingmen? A while back I was playing and I noticed that after I had gone back to the Gefion one of my wingmen was gone! And I couldn't select him from the menu again. Then recently I played again as Isamu, using Misa as support, and Hikaru and Max as wingmen. After beating a dungeon and going back to the ship, I found that Misa and Hikaru were missing! I don't remember Hikaru dying, I dunno, maybe he died offscreen and I just didn't notice. Although when a character dies, there is usually some accompanying dialogue to notify you, and then you can revive them with the restoration kits. But how on Earth does a support character "die", if they're not even on the field?? I didn't die once. And now I can't select them again... Has this happened to anyone else before, and more importantly, does anyone know how to get them back?
  9. Let's get this thread back on track with 1/1 goodness. Here's Minmay and gang telling us pretty much the only thing we know so far -- 2067! Be here or be squ--- triangle!
  10. No, it doesn't! "Escaleno"? You would have to change her name to "Mileno".
  11. Yeah, don't forget that the setting of the show is basically San Francisco, too. I think there are many things in this show that were, in my view, clearly designed for overseas fans. This is evident in the removal of some of the elements that HG copyrighted overseas. For example, this is just my assertion, but the only reason the "New UN Spacy" was introduced and a new UNS kite symbol was designed was to remove the original kite symbol that is owned by HG in other territories. Notice the VF-1 at the top of Mihoshi Gakuen does not have any symbol, and that's rather conspicuous. Also notice that the official Macross Frontier show logo is the first Macross logo to not spell out "Macross" in roman letters.
  12. Yeah, I watched that a couple of weeks ago, by coincidence!
  13. Doesn't rhyme with Mylene unless you're pronouncing one of those wrong.
  14. Too bad that the actual MacII 2D shooting game that they made for the arcades was so frustrating. Anyway, hopefully we should have more info on this toy at this event in Hong Kong: (Graham, you're our man!! )
  15. Whaaat. Oh wow. I'm gonna have to check the Machronicle now! By the way are you referring to the new or old edition? EDIT -- Never mind, just checked. Yeah, it says there are "whispers" that she is actually Therese, and that "there are rumours" that she got help from Max Jenius.... Yeah, I dunno, could be. But they've purposely phrased it so that it is inconclusive.
  16. Did James Cameron just spoil the movie for me? He literally said "it's all about the twists" and described a pretty major one. Is that his game? He wants to ruin the movie for everyone, while acting like he's praising it? Well played, Mr. Cameron, well played.
  17. Yeah. Space needed to be blue so that the Stealth Valks would show up against it. The in-story explanation is that they were near the galactic core. If you notice later in the show, after they fold out to various locations, it is a regular black colour. At one point it's green, even.
  18. Redwolf -- Um, yeah, that surprises me, too, because I've never heard that before. It doesn't sound real, and I played VF-X2 to the end and don't remember any reveal like that.

    Hi-Metal R

Good point, they definitely seem to be waving those destroids and enemies in front of our noses but not telling us anything definite, because they know that otherwise we wouldnt buy those vf-1s yet again...
  20. I don't know, but I always assumed it was just because it would make it easier to differentiate from the Fire valk and Emerald valks.
  21. I think one of the reasons why the Deculture edition went up in Dec 2007 was certainly so they'll have something to show for the 25th anniv., but another was most likely to secure further funding. Up to that point, Bandai wanted nothing to do with Macross, they had zero interest (remember that Yamato was the only company making MacZero merchandise), I would go as far as saying they didn't even understand it. The Deculture episode was produced without Bandai's involvement, but as soon as it aired Bandai suddenly became magically interested and became the main series sponsor. That's why you didn't see the toys until after the series had finished. We know that they are involved from the beginning this time.
  22. The feature on MacF can be found in "Animage Original" issue #1. It's very good, and spread across many pages. You can get it for cheap at Amazon now, second hand. I also started a thread on MW about it years ago, but I can't ever find anything with this search function.
  23. Nice! I'll try it out later. Is that font part of the theme? I'm not sure if it fits.... And it may be a little difficult to read. Anyway, I'll check it out and see how it turns out! Thanks!
