  1. If you want a VF-171, you'll have to go with either this, this, or this. These have been up for auction for close to two years, with no takers. Mainly, because the guy is selling them for about double the price they were offered for at Wonderfest.
  2. Image search in Japanese for the Japanese-impaired
  3. Wasn't some of this included in the movie "Otaku no Video"? Some of it looks familiar, but I've never seen this particular clip before.
  4. 1 week from mailing in my money (yes, sending cash in the mail!!) to getting my gunpod parts and decal sheet. Thank you Hasegawa!
  5. If you have never seen this movie, you must do so now!! http://youtu.be/Kl07XuVRkHw
  6. Well, I went ahead and bought it. Pretty good shape for an old kit. Even still has the glue! Let you know in a few years how it turns out. Need to get through these first Also found a must-have kit that I never knew existed I was so excited back when Bandai released the Patlabor MG series, then so dissapointed that they never did a Helldiver.
  7. I know! I've got the 1/350 Musashi waiting to go after I finish my current build. My first regular ship kit; should be fun.
  8. If I had the room, I might. My display space is already at a premium. And Mechtech, thanks for the pointer. I'll try that next time I want to get down and dirty.
  9. I kind of like these ones better http://youtu.be/3jBz2TO6RdE?t=1m28s http://youtu.be/9z23IFwPPCI
  10. Did Bandai use Imai's old molds for the 15th Anniversary releases they did? If so, then I may go ahead and pick that Imai one up, since I built one of the Bandai kits, and it wasn't too bad.
  11. Wait, wait, wait. So, if your put your figure collection in a nice display case, and throw it on the wall, that's considered art?
  12. You'll want it about "half dry". Like I said before, play around, and find what works out best for you. Good luck!
  13. What type of paint are you using? Enamel, or acrylic? That's the main deciding factor of what to dilute with. If it's enamel, I'd dilute with the Tamiya enamel thinner. I can't give you any advice about acrylic, as I've never used it before. Sorry! 1:1 is way to thin for hand brushing. I'd only do about 10% or so (1 drop of thinner for every 9 drops of paint). The technique I use for doing bigger areas is to paint everything in one direction first, let dry a little bit, then paint again 90 degrees opposite. Eg. brush strokes left to right, then top to bottom. That method seems to really cut down on the brush marks you'll see on your paint job. Just play around a bit, and good luck!
  14. When I paint by hand, if it's more than just touch up work, I usually dilute the paint about 10-20%. Seems to go on a little smoother that way. And unless your air conditioner is blowing right onto your paint, I don't think you need to worry about evaporation.
  15. You could try making one yourself, by using an exhaust fan, dryer hose, and a box. One guy I used to know made one out of an old kitchen range hood, and build a wood box to hold it. OR, you could get a Tamiya like I've got. Very quiet, and works pretty well. I just have to remember to hold the part more inside the hood portion than outside.
  16. I saw one of these at my local Mandarake the other day for around 1200 yen. Would it be worth picking up? How much work would I need to do to make it look nice by today's standards? I know I would have to at least replace the "fists of ham" those old kits have. Anyone ever built one of these?
  17. I think that'll only happen if you eat it as a salad. Grievous Bodily Harm if you have it as a cake.
  18. I've never had any trouble hand painting in a closed room (used to live in North Carolina, USA. Very hot and humid in the summer). What you might want to try is pouring off a little paint into a separate cup, and close the bottle, if you're worried about too many fumes getting out.
  19. Some songs are always topical, no matter how old they are 1991 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjCfn3sWAY4&feature=colike 1985 Edited because I thought of a better way to say what I meant
  20. Yeah, it was the first time trying out my Mr Color weathering set, which I've had for close to 10 years. Very surprised that the paint was still OK after sitting in the bottle that long. Just need to practice a bit more.
  21. OK, so we've all seen what's lying on your workbench, but what actually is your workbench? I use my brother-in-law's old school desk. It also doubles as my wife's make-up table/hobby area (she likes deco-ing things) Paint, paint, paint. I'm a 99% Mr. Color guy. I would like to know how a person who doesn't build Gundam kits gets so many different shades of Gundam gray, though..... Brush collection, and my airbrush set-up. Various tools of the trade. I've recently found that a 100 yen pack of bamboo skewers makes wonder paint stirrers and part holders. Green nippers for removing parts. Older red nippers for cutting big chunks of plastic, or my bamboo skewers in half. Plus, my next kit I'm going to work on. Have to go back to basics sometimes! My painting area. When it's warm enough, just open the window, and I've got no problems. In winter, I use the Tamiya spray booth my wife was kind enough to get me last Christmas. Wear a respirator whenever I paint, though. So, what does your area look like?
  22. Here's my latest build; the Tomahawk Destroid from Wave. Fun kit to build. Went together fast and easy, with minimal seams to putty and sand. I was going for a Vietnam War era tiger stripe cammo scheme. Don't think I quite got that, but I've very happy with what I did get. a few more pics can been seen here
  23. I haven't changed it since spring, but it's still nice seeing sakura in the middle of a Sapporo winter. Took that picture myself on a trip to Matsumae.
