Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Those aren't films, and they're actually not universally reviled. You'll get just as many opinions about Voyager or Enterprise being someone's favorite as you will TOS, TNG or DS9. Other than budgetary restraints people are far too harsh on Star Trek V... and that dumb flamenco scene with Uhura. It's just that after aping things, poorly, from Star Trek II in Into Darkness with Khan and a crew members death, etc. they've now decided to destroy the Enterprise in their third iteration... just like what they did in Star Trek 3. It smacks of the same issues present in Into Darkness.- 466 replies

There's a Phantom Menace and Attack of the CLones version. Are you referring to Attack of the Clones?

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, ugh, I watched the trailer again and there's just so much stupid. The motorcycle because, hey, it's that guy who made The Fast and the Furious. Better put in a car stunt. And then the lame leap from the escape pod to the rock climbing handhold Scotty makes like it's suddenly Mission Impossible. And I can't tell if wrecking the Enterprise once and for all is because Simon Pegg wanted to find a way to erase that thing, Justin Lin couldn't figure out how to make a decent movie with star ships (and without motorcycles), or because JJ Abrams is still executive producer and hates Star Trek so he ordered The Enterprise destroyed once and for all just like his movies are destroying the franchise.- 466 replies

Yeah, Captain Phasma has eluded me as well. Which Obi Wan are you looking for? Isn't he available? All of the Prequel stuff seems easy to come by.

Sweet, man, thanks for the heads up. Wish I hadn't forgotten to pull the trigger on these when they were still at mykombini. I haven't nabbed a First Order Stormtrooper yet. I've almost considered trying a pre-order from ebay at this point. I did finally cave in and pay up front for one of the Riot Control Stormtroopers. I suppose it can double as a first order trooper if the shield is removeable and it comes with the same blaster.

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know what you call it. The lighting, or cinematography, or whatever. But EVERYTHING looked terrible. Killing the Enterprise in the third movie is what they do. They killed the original one in the third movie as well. Hopefully to make way for a ship that looks better. I was hoping this movie would be better given Simon Pegg's involvement in the script, despite the fact the studio pushed back and didn't want as much Science Fiction as he was going for, but this trailer was completely unappealing to me as a Star Trek fan. And I'm not sure who it would appeal to, really. Independence Day 2 and TMNT were more appealing trailers to me.- 466 replies

I do wonder if they'll release the 31 prior to the show premeiring. Doesn't seem like a good way to maximize sales if people don't know if they like the protagonist yet.

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Mommar replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
As for the recently announced live action Robotech movie, I welcome the opportunity to work on it but that request has yet to come. Oh my God, this is the best possible outcome they could EVER hope for. The guy they pilfered from and have kept his work from going global offering to make the Designs for them. Holy Christ Chex, talk about discovering plutonium by accident!- 2715 replies

There's more than just that in the promo photo. If you notice the wing roots actually overlap with the leg super parts, like the Arcadia (and the lineart) do as well.

Jenius is right, giant thing in the upper right hand corner of the movie poster. We've all already seen it.

Kinda odd, the Turtles themselves looked better. Rocksteady and Bebop, Christ, I hope those were unfinished shots. Because that CG looked TERRIBLE. It's nice they're just going for it with the cartoon stuff though, after the idiotic Shredder-bot from the last one. The turtles look a tad shorter than last time, but not by as much as they made it sound like they were going to shrink them.

Don't you have a few 0a's? I'm going to milk three modes out of my 0D, 0A and two 0s's.

The more I see that Riot Control Stormtrooper scene the less I like it, it's too "mini-boss"-like. There was only one big-bad anybody had a stand-off with in the original Trilogy and it was Vader. Other than something larger and more natural like the Wompa or Rancor, which were both naturally larger threats, nobody else in the entirety of the original trilogy posed a single threat like Vader except for maybe the expert At-At pilot who blasted the rebel shield in Empire and even then nobody had a one-on-one standoff with him. Not even Fett, who was shown to be great at tracking/capturing people, had more than a cannon fodders death or was shown to be some sort of stand out combatant.

Leaving the UN Spacy off would make sense if the sticker sheet was like the 0D and included UN Navy and UN Marines stickers, however doing it on the 0A and now the 0S is useless if there's no way for additional customization.

The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Know what's funny, a year after that Blade was released. And, IMO, that was the real turning point for comic book movies into the new millennium. Of course they didn't have a producer who's fascination with spiders compelled him to demand them in every form of media he backed. Yup, that's the talk I was thinking of and mentioned. He can tell quite a story, can't he?- 20 replies
