  1. Kawamori and Co. just wanted to get a Valkyrie girl within the anime itself That VF-171 Kick Butt looks funny. I like the classic Cannon Fodder colors. The big gun reminds me of the Strike Valkyrie.
  2. Oh yeah, I believe they were. They were mostly white (except for the cannon fodder VF-1A type) but they had purple highlights.
  3. Not surprised the legal matter was something like turnaround. This is why development hell is called development hell; the pejorative fits in more ways than one
  4. It's so surreal that after all these years, mzero.net is still using my drawings for the Super Star Destroyer, Star Destroyer and Trade Federation Battleship. I built a chart comparing the Macross ships to Battlestar Galactica Re-imagined
  5. I think Chief Guld Goa Bowman was asking why thrust vectoring in space is supposedly not useful, hobbes221. Air speed and lift would not be factors in a vacuum. As good as verniers are, they would be no substitute for the main engines. The more you can redirect the thrust of your most powerful motive force, the better your spacecraft will maneuver in space.
  6. Brilliant. Thank you once again.
  7. Almost looks like an Octos from Macross Zero
  8. I'd say Roys point is one of the biggest factors for Destroid/Cannon Fodder performance. But also keep in mind that Macross always attempts to portray the robots as mass produced weapons of war. There are no invulnerable super robots in Macross. Each mecha is presented like any other piece of military hardware; as armored and practical as possible, but still just a weapon of war that can be destroyed like any other. Thus, without all the exploding mecha, like Destroids and Cannon Fodder Valkyries, the depiction of war in Macross wouldn't be as realistic as it is. Also, being in a vulnerable mecha creates a lot more tension for our characters. Where is the suspense or tension if the audience knows the characters never die and they all pilot invulnerable super machines?
  9. The more the merrier Please and thank you.
  10. No problem. I think the "Mikhail scene" is the big one we want. But the poor "severed in half soldier" falling from the roof top and the "Sheryl vs. Ranka slap" are good ones to obtain too. Any chance I could also get them in large size?
  11. Milia is shown being micloned after her deployment to the Sol system. Obviously there must be micloning facilities aboard Zentradi ships. When the Zentradi joined the humans after Space War I, no doubt the humans gained cloning technology for the 100 ships that joined the remains of the UN Spacy. I think the idea of introducing cloning into the Macross universe was pretty much an afterthought anyway. Kawamori and Co. hadn't planned on making sequels and once they did, they needed some way to repopulate the human race quickly to start telling colonization stories. So they just assumed the humans grabbed cloning tech and went from there. But it clear from the lack of mention in the anime productions that they never bothered emphasizing cloning or the importance of it.
  12. I think Flower Girl was just a minor message character, a lesson within the show. All she does is attempt to deliver flowers to Basara, but she never takes any initiative nor makes a genuine attempt to bring attention to her wants. When Basara finally gets the flowers, it's in a fleeting moment, as he flys by, not the kind of meeting she was hoping for. I think she's just a lesson to the audience to take chances in life, to stand out, otherwise you're just an ignored face in the crowd.
  13. Ah, thank you. I put quite a bit of thought into this one, so I'm glad you like it. Hmmm, not sure if Hikaru ever surpassed Roy, but perhaps he did eventually gain more Valkyrie time. Still, I think Hikaru became a killer combat pilot by the end of SDF Macross. The guy was a juggernaut in the later third of the series, dealing out ownage in the extreme. Hikaru and Gamlin definite deserve more credit than what they get. I think they're definitely aces.
  14. Spike isn't dead? At any rate, he'd better stay
  15. Agreed. And I'm definitely looking forward to seeing that.
  16. Well, whispo, I think you know what scene we want as a gif from this episode
  17. I love and hate Macross Wow, what an episode. Frontier sure has teeth and Kawamori and Co have guts. Quite possibly the best episode of Frontier yet.
  18. Very nice work Lance
  19. Declaring defense of copyright for this generation of movie goers is like lamenting the umbrella you forgot during a torrential thunderstorm. And the condecension toward "core fans" in that article is like a slap in the face. Fox's PR department should be shot.
  20. Ah, very fortunate. This book is going to turn out expensive for me.
  21. Did one of these recently, so I'm gonna cut and paste. My apologies if it doesn't fit the rules exactly Inhuman Champions 1. Maximillian Jenius 2. Milia Fallyna The Upper Echelon 3. Chlore 4. Roy Focker 5. Isamu Dyson & Guld Bowman 6. Nekki Basara 7. Ozuma Lee 8. Hikaru Ichijo & Gamlin Kizaki 9. Alto Saotome & Brera Sterne 10. D.D. Ivanov 11. Mikhail Buran/Michael Blanc The Regulars 12. Kuran Kuran 13. Nora Polyansky 14. Shin Kudo 15. Emilia Jenius 16. Kinryu 17. Ray Lovelock 18. Docker 19. Kamjin Kravshera & Temjin 20. Gigile 21. Canaria Berstein 22. Gavil The Cannon Fodder 23. Henry Gilliam 24. Mylene Jenius 25. Hayao Kakizaki 26. Luca Angeloni & Sheryl Nome Kawamori has stated in interviews that Max and Milia are in a league all their own so there can be no doubt they dominate. Max is like the Einstein of piloting, hence why he's called a genius Chlore was said to be very competitive with Milia for best pilot of the Meltran and in kill score, suggesting she either equals or sits just below Milia. That kind of accomplishment means Chlore is definitely second only to M&M Once down to the realistic benchmarks, I still think that Roy Focker is the most accomplished of all the non-super pilots of Macross. He's definitely got the biggest kill score and probably the most experience. He's also an exceptional leader and I couldn't think of any other Macross pilot I'd want to fly under than Roy. Isamu and Guld were clearly defined as above and beyond most pilots. The YF-19 went through seven pilots before Isamu and his display in the opening of Macross Plus still remains one of the single most impressive engagements in all of Macross. Going up against the bio-neural X-9 Ghost that moves like lightning (even faster than Brera's VF-27 it seems) is an accomplishment all its own and Guld managed to take it down, something even Isamu might not have been able to do. The story of Macross 7 clearly defines Basara as a plot device and as such it necessitates that we acknowledge his talent as a pilot well above his contemporaries. I have to include him because he is so obviously portrayed as an ace among aces. Having said that, in any other Macross-like combat scenario and without the benefit of Macross 7's absurd plot, I'd say Basara would rank near the end of the list and perhaps below even some of The Regulars. Ozuma is impressive and he's obviously cut from the same mold as Roy Focker. He also went up against arguably the most powerful enemy a human pilot has ever faced - the Vajra - and he did it with a knife As Frontier progresses his kill score continues to soar and he appears to be an inspiring commander. Hikaru and Gamlin are probably the two most underrated pilots in Macross. Both possess considerable natural talent for flying but story circumstances demanded they play second place to Max and Basara respectively. I think measured in any realistic sense, these two would be acknowledged as top tier pilots and more importantly, as distinguished unit commanders, something a lot of the other pilots on the list lack. War is ultimately about mass battles and while some pilots might be equal or a bit better than these two, those others don't offer the UN Spacy what Hikaru and Gamlin can offer in terms of leadership and strategic skill. Alto and Brera seem to be in their own league in Frontier, with the exception of Ozuma. It might be too early to tell, but I get the feeling these two are the stars of the show. For now they'll maintain a spot on the list unless something goes askew D.D. Ivanov gave Roy a run for his money, but I never got the sense that Roy couldn't best him. D.D. seemed to have an affinity for luck that carried him a bit more than his actual skill, but even so his neck-and-neck with Roy means he's definitely to be feared. As Isamu said, luck is a skill Mikhail seems to be noted as a talent above the norm. While he's definitely a standout and likely deserves a spot on the list, I'm not sure he'd fair all that well compared to the rest so I put him near the end.
  22. Fade Rathnik Doubt cost would override it's extreme usefulness. Fold Drives and fold boosters seem common enough, especially by the 2059 era. But there might be other factors at work as well. Still, it seems a logical application of the technology, even if it is a little too crazy RedWolf I doubt the folding bomb would be used over really long distances measured in light years (though that is a fascinating use in and of itself). But I'm talking over light second, light minutes or light hours of distance. Even as a close range weapon (main gun range of one light second or under) such a weapon would be extremely useful. One countermeasure I can see being used against the Fold Bomb is jamming. Without a proper fix on the enemy position, it'd be very hard to fold into the midst of them. ChronoReverse Well the idea would be to utilize such folding weapons using point ships, like the VE-1 (ala DYRL) but without the need for a big ship. That's the whole point behind the cruise missile, except applied to an FTL-possible universe. Hence detection and evasion would become a much more powerful order of battle with such a weapon on Macross warfare. At any rate, I still think it's as plausible a weapon in Macross as any and even seems a logical next step in weapons development.
  23. Hehehe, nicely done Morpheus. I was wondering when someone was going to mention it. The Macropedia seemed like a great place to have a little fun
  24. I'd take the analysis one step further and ask why don't they have fold/jump weapons? If both Macross and BSGR have the capability to conduct precision folds/FTL jumps with fighter-sized FTL capable craft, what is stopping them from creating the FTL equivalent of a cruise missile? Hell, the fold booster in Macross already looks like a missile; just double the size, stick in guidance, sub-light propulsion and a warhead. You then defold this "Fold Missile" inside a space craft. Something large and slow moving, like, an Island attached to a NMC vessel or a Vajra mothership. KABOOM!
