  1. I've got a lot to add to the For Fans Only section. I'm going to have to devote some time to doing a major addition to just that portion of the site. With your permission, I'll certainly add your works.
  2. I find nothing unusual about metric, but I share your disappointment
  3. I'm not agreeing with one side or the other (especially since this whole debate is increasing confusion rather than any definitive conclusion), but it does seem like a fleet tradition to have both a colony ship and a battleship. The Megaroads are definitely not battleships (they'd be the Cities/Islands), so the question becomes what is the battleship in those fleets?
  4. How could I not? Very nice work Talos! The grey looks very good, reminds me of the VF-X version of the VF-17D Nightmare.
  5. There is the Macross Mecha Manual
  6. Yeah, that is extremely helpful. I think that's most people's preference as well. Numbers are often for too abstract because the same number can mean so many things. Names are much more complex and thus much more specific. Besides, we can't go wrong with calling it "Global"
  7. I'm okay with the animation. This isn't SDF Macross any more. Even the lousy animation was good enough for me and the CGI was great throughout. I also think criticisms of the story as unfocused are WAY too premature, especially coming from English fans who watched Macross Frontier between December 2007 through to September 2008. Macross Frontier was run through the fansub gamut, suffering all the problems you get from fan subs done by multiple groups, often with very little knowledge of Macross lore or context (or worse, putting in Robotech trashlations). Even with a faithful work of professional English subtitles (like Animeigo's release), it's still possible to experience an anime as somewhat jarring simply because it's Japanese and we are English viewers. I admit that I totally got the context and gist of the story in Macross Frontier, but I'm also a Macross fan and I'm a film geek, so I often invest much more in any given production than most viewers are willing. For my part, I'm definitely reserving judgment on the narrative flow until a well done subtitle job (like Shinsen's final sub job that they mentioned) is done for Macross Frontier.
  8. It's definitely a Macross-Class ship. Since the NMC has assumed the name "Macross", I'd say the "Global" portion of the Macross Class is likely an inseparable part of the 04 designation.
  9. LOL. No, it isn't. But what can I say
  10. I agree and even Frontier's attempt to up the ante felt more than a little afterthought-ish. It was clearly an attempt to broaden the scope of the series, but was done in the eleventh hour so it lost much of what it was trying to accomplish. Digressing, I'm still holding SDF Macross over Frontier as well. It simply got more right than Frontier did. But I have to say Frontier got more right than I could have ever hoped in a modern Macross sequel. For all the fan bitching and nitpicking, Frontier was an enjoyable and exciting militaristic Macross adventure. I'd give SDFM a 10, Macross Frontier an 8 and Macross 7 a 2.
  11. From what I can remember, both Russia and Japan used the kg rating for measuring thrust decades ago in aircraft and rocket design. I'm not sure why this unusual form of thrust measurement was ever used, but it is apparently legitimate. It's basically the same as using pounds of thrust, but it uses the metric measurement of kilograms. Tomino and Co. adopted it for use in the fictional statistics of Mobile Suit Gundam and Kawamori followed suit with Macross. Back to Macross, rest assured the Frontier-era VF-25 Messiah is VERY superior to the YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur and YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II generation of variable fighters. I did thrust-to-weight ratios for the VF-25 and VF-27 and they came out so far ahead of last generation fighters it was quite extraordinary. I'll repost it below: If you're interested in a common unit of measure to compare rather than T-W ratios, I'll do a calculation of the thrust back to kgs for the VF-25 and VF-27. It's also interesting to note that the Macross Zero mecha, like the VF-0 Phoenix and the SV-51, feature thrust ratings in kilo-newtons. Perhaps Japan has changed the way they measure thrust ratings now or they already did and Kawamori decided it was time abandon this odd measure of thrust. VF-25 Messiah 165,138 kg x 2 Total thrust = 330,276 kg VF-27 140,367 kg x 4 Total thrust = 561,468 kg YF-19 (empty) 67,500 kg x2 Total thrust = 135,000 kg YF-21 (empty) 65,200 kg x2 Total thrust = 130,400 kg VF-19S Excalibur (empty) 78,950 kg x 2 Total thrust = 157,900 kg VF-22S Sturmvogel II (empty) 65,200 kg x2 Total thrust = 130,400 kg Well, I hope that answers your question
  12. This is pretty much my feeling. Reading too much into what isn't there so the big picture is lost. It could be something as simple as theme that makes all the difference (like all Macross shows being multi-star system stories with the exception of Macross II). But one wouldn't recognize such when hammering that square peg into the round hole. Now I admit there's no harm in a mental exercise like trying to wedge MII into canon and I don't think anyone is suggesting fans shouldn't be allowed to dream. But personally, I don't see the gain. When I tech geek to calculate a thrust-to-weight ratio, the result has merit because it's all official figures simply shown as a pie rather than a bar, if you know what I mean. I could fan fiction MII into Nue continuity all I want, but at the end of the day Macross II is still out, Norman
  13. Interesting. There's a few more NMC colony fleets mentioned than that which I was aware. Good stuff.
  14. It's so obvious, but that fact didn't hit me until you mentioned it! Wow, I shudder to think what the Frontier film is going to look like!
  15. Thanks for the pictures fellas. Nice screen shots or all the pretties I believe you're right. Not only that, but we can see a Uraga and what appears to be almost a direct after view of a Stealth Frigate.
  16. I voted, but I don't like the way this thread's poll was posed.
  17. From the way I understood their description of the VF-25 adoption, it was already a sure thing that was beginning mass production; the SMS simply got the chance to run it in combat first before the NUNS. Nonetheless, we've been seeing Messiah CFs for some time now in the series and it makes sense that VF-25 production would have leaped ahead once the Vajra reared their heads
  18. Yummy movie time, here we come! Fantastic news!
  19. Well, it was a great episode and a fine close to the series. Plenty of great Macross moments and I definitely appreciated the fact that it took a lot of firepower (and a lot of love) to kick butt in the end Grace's death was certainly the highlight of the episode; I've been eagerly anticipating her demise for quite some time. I really like the way she was whacked; bullseye from Mikhail's old sniper gun pod, courtesy of Klan and Alto. Well, the worst definitely has NOT come to pass and I'm certainly content with the ending to Macross Frontier. This is the Macross sequel we should have had. It was a helluva long wait, but now we have it and I'm content. Overall, it's certainly less than perfect and hasn't trumped SDF Macross. But what Macross Frontier has done is served up a solid dose of classic Macross the way I wanted it; the way in which Macross is done right. Now onto the Chronicle and hopefully many more mecha goodies coming sooner rather than later. DECULTURE!
  20. Yeah, I was shocked at that one too. But it's not totally unheard of. The ARMD (DYRL Version) had 262 VF-1 Valkyries. Nonetheless, fantastic screen shot. Loved that fleet.
  21. I'll have to see the subtitled translation to know beyond a doubt, but the finale seems to confirm my thoughts on the benevolent Vajra, their communication and Ranka/singing. However, Grace's attack on the entire NUNG was something I didn't see coming
  22. Very wise. Macross II has always has been Macross and it always will be. Canon continuity status matters not.
  23. What you're suggesting amounts to nothing less than running a Macek-esque train over Macross II. As much as I don't like Macross II, I would never wish that on any anime, least of all any more Macross. Blasphemy indeed IMO, Macross II has aged poorly, much more so than all the other Macross productions. Besides, it is what it is, set in one solar system, pristine Earth, no colonies, anachronistic designs and so on. Take that away and its not Macross II any more. Like Gundam Wing, just leave MII alone in it's own little world. It can still be Macross even if it's not in the main timeline. No big loss.
  24. I hope everyone is enjoying the Master List of Macross Mecha, since it was such a widely requested feature Sulendil Ang Well, thank the Macross Chronicle. They finally had some Macross Zero artwork inside. And it's about damn time some of it was published Dante74 LOL! I never even noticed. How bizarre RedWolf The Macross Zero section is limited by what has been published. Without fan magazines (to which I don't have access) the only line art available for Macross Zero is very limited. I'm hoping the Macross Chronicle will eventually solve all those problems. Chief Guld Goa Bowman Good point. It would just be a duplicate entry anyway, but good point. I don't have any line art for the green fellow, but I could try fudging it like the VF-27. Won't look very good though Ignacio Ocamica Thank you. I rushed it out without a lot of material just to make the finishing episode of Frontier. Thought it would help fans for the finale. Taksraven I like the poses for the VF-171EX better than the current batch of shots we have for the VF-171, especially the battroid mode.
