ChronoReverse You're probably right. It's best to err on the side of caution, especially now that we've seen the Battle Frontier/25 fire in Carrier mode (which may or may not have been an existing feature all along). Correction made and new page uploaded. Make sure to select "Refresh". Thanks again. Fade Rathnik I think it's the metric. Some yanks see the units of measure and just zone out It is rather impressive when you think about it: a slug taller than the average person firing out a rail gun. That has to really hurt. Sad part is, we never did see them in action sucker4meltrans I assume the process involves super dimension space, like nearly every OverTechnology. The additional mass is probably formed from the suspension liquid in the micloning chamber, using super dimension energy. The micloning chamber is Protoculture technology and they were responsible for super dimension organs and other major feats of biotechnology. So when a Zentran sizes up, the additional mass may be super dimension energy converted to biomass and when they are reduced to human size, the mass might be converted to energy and simply dumped in super dimension space. -

The Macross Compendium notes the two dual cannons on the NMC shoulders as 4 x Beam Weapons. -
That is so damn cool. Brilliant work!

Image/info request on the Algenix and unknown ship
Mr March replied to Flaming Guantlet's topic in Movies and TV Series
Sorry, I can't help on these fellas. I've never seen a good picture of the Algenecis from Macross M3, just small scans of that one you posted (which is likely taken from a game manual). And that other ship has me stumped. I don't recall seeing it either. -

"Frontier's time has come. Like Macross City or Atarrrrrria before it: the city has become a breeding ground for suffering and (cue sexy eyebrow raise) injustice. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die" -

Zinjo Very similar. I like that the turrets are consistent with the function of the Zentradi turrets. The bridge looks very NMC-7 though, not NMC-13. I was actually hoping for a new design, but it looks purty nonetheless grss1982 No, like Morpheus said, those were point defense guns. Here's some links to the Macross Plus stuff: SDF-1 (Macross Plus Version) Point defense gun array Morpheus Yeah, we did see them fire, but never up close. Which is why I always wondered "how" they fired exactly. I wondered did they have a barrel underneath those rectangular sheaths? I also wondered were they conductors, acting as prongs for the gun energy, like the big Red Vajra's gun? But I need to wonder no more, for now I see, they split apart and fire Alastar Are you asking for the size of the SDF-1 rail guns? They are 178 cm cannons (1,780 mm or 70 inches for you yanks). The NMC doesn't have any rail guns, just beam weapons. Though with the impressive armament on the Battle Frontier/25, it's possible they might have rail guns. -
Tropic Thunder's getting some good reviews. I was likely going to see it anyway because the trailer had me at "fridge", but now I'm genuinely intrigued. Here's links to two of my regular trusted review sites: Review on montrealfilmjournal Review on filmcritic.com

Worst Manager in Macross History
Mr March replied to Isamu Starkiller's topic in Movies and TV Series
Definitely Grace, because her evil goals are too successful (thus far). Akiko was good when she wasn't playing unwilling hand puppet to Sivil and Elmo got Ranka into the big leagues by her talent and his hard work. At least Kaifun became useless once he got hooked on the sauce and Marj had the good sense to dive off the SDF Cliff -
Is it too late for an animated gif from episode 17? At 17:18 there's a sequence that shows a Destroid Cheyenne and the Macross Quarter turrets firing to defend the ship from Vajra. I think this it the first time we've ever seen a close-up of those big turrets firing and I love to have a gif of it if it's still possible. It's a very brief sequence, only a few seconds long.

Is there a representative from Lunar Subs that is posting in this thread? That's pretty much why I'm asking. EDIT I registered on Lunar forums and posted a topic about it. Hopefully it's something they will consider correcting.

You know, I always wondered how those cannons worked. I mean, those turret style beam cannons have been around since SDF Macross all the way back in 1982. But we've never actually seen a close-up of those turrets firing until in Macross Frontier. They split down the middle just like the big guns and open up to fire. Nice to finally see them in action after 25 years -

The most erotic thing in Macross Frontier is........
Mr March replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't think I can find Macross Frontier erotic, at least not in any meaningful definition of eroticism. That's just not the kind of thing I'm getting out of the show when I watch it. I certainly do find the artistic depiction of the female form in Macross Frontier pleasing and even titillating to a certain degree, but it's definitely not evoking the same reaction I get watching live action erotica or when pursuing a relationship with a girl. And that part of me is definitely incapable of deception I think a lot of it has to do with the nature of anime fan service. Unless you're watching hentai, the sexual innuendo and depiction is intentionally unfulfilled. Since it's made for kids, none of the characters ever get down and if they do, the depiction of coupling is so sanitized (read: Cathy's flashback with Ozuma) there's nothing worth getting excited over. Anime is also very far removed from reality, much more so than even the most escapist live action. Ultimately that unreality is what makes anime so appealing and animation in general so unique. But it also makes it much harder for me to connect any truly erotic feelings when watching it. Porn is already awful because it's too contrived and hurts suspension of disbelief, but there is a much stronger instant gratification when one watches it compared to anime. Anyway, kind of a strange topic -
Well, technically Macross diverges from real history at 1999, but in 1982 when Macross was first created, Kawamori and Co. obviously didn't know what was coming between then and the 1999 that we all know ("I love OT, Mr. Anderson") But keep in mind, progress with OverTechnology is also limited by the boundaries of human understanding. OverTechnology greatly transcends our own technology, but only in as much as the humans can understand it and understand their own level of progress. For example, human understanding of aerodynamics ultimately limits what the humans of Macross can make as far as OverTechnology-derived mecha. At the time of Macross, F-14 style aerodynamics was the best humans could apply to OverTechnology, so we got the VF-1 Valkyrie. Later, as human understanding of aerodynamics progressed, more advanced variable fighters were possible and even vast improvements wer achieved using OverTechnologies previously unseen even in Zentradi mecha. Some fields seemed to advance much faster than others. Military applications seemed to benefit the most and the civilian industries that supported military endeavours (such as construction, engineering, computers, robotics, etc). Civilian applications seemed to trickle in after that. I think the most overt non-military application to find use in Macross was Holography and Volumetric images, like the ones that produced the sky inside the Macross and Minmay's spectacular concerts. Later, privately owned vehicles were obviously changed significantly by the introduction of OverTechnology and it also bred widely used robots for photography, garbage removal and vending ("COLA!") OverTechnology advances in medical science appeared to come much slower. While cloning came along rather quickly, not much else has been seen apart form vague mentions in Macross Plus and Macross Zero. I think Macross Frontier is the first time we've seen truly trans-humanist influences of OverTechnology on the human body. Which is rather ironic when you think about it, since the Protoculture possessed such incredible biotechnology that appeared to define their progress as a civilization.

Hehehe I'm sure each Island has it's own control centers. Ships like that would have to have one, even if they were only basic for general operations, launching, docking, and planet fall. -

Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Landing the entire Macross Frontier/25 upon a planet in the same way the fleet is linked in space is probably not possible. But since each Island can be disconnected, what would be the point? The Islands obviously have gravity control systems just like Island 1 and the other Islands also possess retractable shells for the dome. I see no reason why they couldn't make planet fall on their own. They are designed for colonization after all and if Island 1 can do it, the smaller Islands should have no trouble doing the same. -
This definitely has potential But I'd have to re-watch everything and pick a bunch of scenes. I'll have to come up with some ideas.

SDFM Music... why isn't it as good as RT's?!
Mr March replied to RF-26AAC's topic in Movies and TV Series
Gubaba I don't believe you are re-reading and I requested in good faith. The way I see it, the main point was never in debate. But obviously there's an objection to the word "infantilized" and this is somehow worth debate because you feel it doesn't fit the degree of re-editing and re-writing done to make Robotech. That's not an argument worth having and far too tangential to the actual opinion posted. The word was chosen because it fit, not for any imagined slight (other than my obvious distaste for tampering done to SDF Macross in the RT edit). fifbeat Thank you. Kronnang Dunn A debate over your taste in music? I think I'll expend effort on discussion
