  1. "Why Ike, whatever do you mean?"
  2. Give me some credit; I know well the horrifying awfulness of fan fiction, which is why it makes such a great analogy to the current state of published genre entertainment Perhaps the "paid writers" produce fewer numbers of Plan 9 From Outer Space, but to my mind, an example like Kevin J. Anderson is in the same league as the internet's Star Wars vs. Star Trek
  3. I'm quite surprised RPG source books still make money these days. With all the resources available on the internet and the affordable home office software/hardware available to the average player, there's far more that can be done and done better by enthusiastic gaming fans. Particularly in terms of Macross, there are fans on this board far more knowledgeable and qualified to write Macross RPG information, ESPECIALLY after 25 years. RPG information was basically the first widely sold form of fan fiction. As I've grown older and read published work by "professional writers" for franchises like Star Wars or Dune, I've come to the conclusion that most fans are better off creating their own fan fiction and certainly couldn't do any worse
  4. Is Shinsen still going to do the "finalized subtitle" versions that they said they were going to do once the series was finished?
  5. When I first purchased my MPM book years ago, I noticed the binoculars look like the VF-1J head unit I think the playable disc formats is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek kinda thing. Which is cool
  6. Taksraven Whatever they are, I don't like 'em I love the gaunt, skeletal look of the Evangelions and the fractured, sectional style of the armor. It's incredibly innovative from a design perspective. I can see where the Oni elements appear and I see a lot of Mamoru Nagano's style in the torso/abdomen design of the Evangelions. It's good stuff; some of the best mechanical design in all of anime and right up there with Macross and Gundam. Gubaba Or very good taste I think I'm most excited about the new Evangelions as well. Since there was never that many of them, it was a treat to see a new one.
  7. We aim to please
  8. Scene composition, particularly for the action sequences. For the first time I feel fully CG rendered vehicles in anime have at last tapped into the unique Japanese style that makes the action so aesthetically pleasing to watch. The CG models in Macross Frontier feel superior to Macross Zero, despite the fact the M0 models had much more detail and higher polygon counts. It's all in the composition. It's not an aspect of Frontier that gets much attention, but to me the dynamic style of the scene composition made all the difference.
  9. Are you challenging me to a duel? Oh, come now, don't you find the heart tattoo on Wilder's left butt cheek is rather fetching? Don't be coy, he's a fine collection of pencil lines Actually, the thing I'm wondering about is who the characters in the triangles are supposed to be. I can't make them out.
  10. This is a common problem and I too was once mistaken interpreting this cooling issue on the YF-19 and YF-21. It's also an unusual piece of trivia as well, since the problem of heat/cooling in the YF-19/YF-21 is never mentioned anywhere in the anime OVA or movie. Ultimately, there's not much that can be done about clarifying this since the original text is Japanese and Egan's translation is about the best I've read. What I can do is try to explain what is being written. I'll use the YF-19 as an example. First off, you have to watch the punctuation very carefully when reading the statistics. 42,700 kg is the maximum instantaneous thrust in the atmosphere. When the semi-colon hits, that is the start of a new fact. That new fact is that 67,500 kg is the maximum instantaneous thrust of the engines in space. The second description says that cooling inefficiencies in atmosphere operation limits the YF-19 engines to 40%-60% of thrust in space. That means 40%-60% of the 67,500 kg of thrust (the aforementioned maximum thrust rating in space). That means the engines can only produce 27,000 kg to 40,500 kg when flying in the atmosphere, otherwise the engine core melt and you're Gulded I hope that makes sense.
  11. I'm actually looking forward to this re-imagining of Neon Genesis Evangelion, as an anime story. I'm hopeful it will appeal to me more than the television series, which wasn't very good at all. However, the mechanical design of NGE is something that was always first rate. The EVAs are easily some of the most innovative mechanical designs to come out of anime in the last 10 years. Having said that, I'm not crazy about these new variants. I like some of the new colors for Unit 02, but that crown isn't working for me. One step forward, one step back; the original EVA designs have yet to be surpassed, IMO.
  12. Very nice. Thanks for sharing protoeden
  13. I always assumed it was to extend the retractable grip so it could be used in the Battroid's manipulator (hand). Beyond that reason, perhaps the extending portion of the gun pod also acts as a stock for more stable firing.
  14. That's the anti-aliasing. I use it on all my line art scans to create digitized reproductions that look really smooth, avoiding sharp pixel edges that would make the scan of the line art appear jagged and ugly. I suggest taking Talos and Zinlovely's advice and use Gimp. It even appears to support PSD formats (that's the Photoshop format I use in Photoshop CS). It may even allow you to utilize my colored PSD files.
  15. I'm uncertain where Waterworld stands. Most sources are giving conflicting numbers. Regardless of the accuracy of the numbers, there are two very important factors to consider before running to the numbers and thumping one's chest on the forums First, studios only earn a little over half of the box office gross of any film; the other half is taken by the theatres. In the case of Waterworld, Universal only earned $44 million domestically from the film even though it earned $88 million. Second, marketing costs for major summer movies range anywhere from $10 million to well over $50 million. Marketing costs are also NEVER included as part of the budget and studios rarely release the numbers. For a major studio production like Waterworld, with one of the biggest budgets of all time up to that point, you can bet the marketing costs were huge. That's roughly $100 million lost off the world wide gross, and that's not taking into account the cut international theatres take for themselves. That leaves Waterworld with a budget of $175 million while taking in $164 million world wide WITH THE CAVEAT of international theatre cuts. As far as I can tell, BOMB!
  16. Don't know. The VF-14 Vampire (Macross 7 P*L*U*S Version) is just described as a heavy variable fighter that incorporates Zentradi OverTechnology. It's also described as having high maneuverability in space. It probably fulfills a role similar to the VF-17 Nightmare, a heavy fighter built for long distance operations and optimal performance in space. The VF-14 Vampire trivia does mention it was used in survey fleets, so that may suggest it was a long-range space craft. Perhaps the Chronicle will say more. But I bet the VF-14 (M3 Version) will be the one that appears. I think the VF-14 Vampire (Macross 7 P*L*U*S Version) will likely get buried, since it was described as a rough design only and the M3 version was the finalized design. I've not seen the VF-14 Vampire (Macross 7 P*L*U*S Version) published in any Macross book.
  17. How could this turd have made enough money back to justify expense on a new extended edition? It was one of the biggest flops in the history of film. Amazing. Or perhaps, this is a grab at trying to break even It's funny that we always hear people cry about how awful a certain movie was or that they just saw one of the worst movies ever, but it's rarely true. But Waterworld is an example that actually fits the honor of "one of the worst ever films". Plan 9 From Outer Space, Catwoman, Battlefield Earth, Glitter, Showgirls, Waterworld...this Costner-infected plague has indeed earned it's place among the stinkers
  18. I think variable fighters are totally fake
  19. Wolfman Snuck in some time this morning to do your custom. Here it is
  20. There doesn't appear to be much of a rhyme or reason to the way they are categorizing the shows. Macross Plus is even placed slightly out of order and the Macross 7 Encore seems to have been absorbed into the Macross 7 series. While the back of the Macross Chronicle binder lists the Macross shows in seven categories as I've listed above, page one of the Macross Chronicle lists the the Macross productions in eleven categories as follows: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (36 episode television series, 1982) The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? (film, 1984) The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flashback 2012 (music video, 1987) Macross II: Lovers Again (6 episode OVA, 1992) Macross 7 (49 episode television series, 1994) Macross Plus (4 episode OVA, 1994) Macross 7: The Galaxy's Calling Me! (short film, 1995) Macross Plus Movie Edition (film, 1995) Macross Dynamite 7 (4 episode OVA, 1997) Macross Zero (5 episode OVA, 2002-2004) Macross Frontier (television series, 2008)
  21. Mr March

    VF-1A 3D WIP

Thanks. I'm glad I could help. Your model is looking good.
  22. meninge Ah, the colored Glaug is looking very good. Nice work. SchizMC Okay, here they are.
  23. Zinloving I wish. Actually, much like Graham has said, I wish for a This Is Animation Special book on Macross Frontier. That would be my dream book. TheLoneWolf I do have some Zentradi soldier line art and Protodeviln line art, but I've not included them because they aren't mecha and they have no statistics. The Vajra are an exception for obvious reasons. However, I am eager to include colored line art of the two in a size comparison chart. But then again, I have a lot of really interesting ideas for Macross size comparison charts. Oh, the work! Oh the humanity!
