Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!

I saw the trailer for District 9 before watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine on May 1. District 9 appears to be shot almost like a documentary and is some kind of alien asylum story. The director is a fellow named Neill Blomkamp, who is some kind of past collaborator with Peter Jackson (according to the IMDB). So naturally, they splashed Jackson's name all over the trailer, much like they do with Spielberg's name whenever his company produces something in which he personally has no direct involvement  Ahem, digressing...the trailer wasn't bad. It definitely does a good job at grabbing your interest. In fact, the trailer plays like a some kind of documentary on human rights abuses in the middle east, until you get hit with a shot of a giant floating ship hanging over a vista of broken desert.

2030s Era Valkyries and Beyond...
Mr March replied to Cyclone Trooper's topic in Movies and TV Series
The rear-firing head cannons on the later model valkyries appear to be anything but fixed. They may be fixed "rearward" firing weapons, but they are still all described as "turrets." In both instances where we've seen the rear head cannons firing (YF-19 in Macross Plus, VF-25F Messiah in Macross Frontier) the cannons are clearly mobile and the line of fire can be seen to change angle rather dramatically. In Macross Plus, the YF-19 is shown as on a specific course but the head cannon tracks and fires upon the YF-21 at multiple angles. In Macross Frontier, the VF-25 Messiah is shown flying in a similar manner while the twin head cannons are clearly firing and tracking the VF-27 Lucifer independent of the position of the VF-25 fighter itself. I think much of this fan perception of a static head cannon stems from the fact that they are rarely "shown" moving upon their mounts; the audience only observes the obvious multi-angled effects of the blasts of laser or beam fire. But these are not 18th century ball cannons of wagon wheels. It's clear from their firing patterns that the head cannons are built upon movable mounts that angle independently of the craft and that these head cannons aren't restricted to a single, horizontal articulation. As for the placement of the head unit itself, clearly the VF-1 head unit would induce significant drag and would be less passively stealthy than the later valkyries. In a drive to achieve more efficient designs, the head unit was likely moved to a more favourable location on the mecha to improve aerodynamics and stealth. Also, the addition of a dedicated rear-firing (and apparently semi-autonomous) weapon would only be an advantage in combat. Most of the later valkyries simply replaced the lack of a forward firing head turret with supplemental laser/beam guns, often mounted in the wing roots. The YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur, the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II, VF-17 Nightmare, VF-171 Nightmare Plus, VF-25 Messiah and VF-27 Lucifer all feature such additional laser/beam cannons for forward firing. As for the feet, it's likely just a stylistic choice in most cases. Although the 3-dimensional thrust vectoring of many later valkyries would likely require some kind of eggshell-design rather than a block-design found on the VF-1 Valkyrie. This may account for the curved and spire-like feet of the VF-11 Thunderbolt and later valkyries. Obviously, the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II, SV-51 and VF-27 Lucifer have 3-dimensional thrust vectoring achieved via triple deflection paddles. -
We don't need that high a resolution. A 600 DPI scan is large enough to make even the smallest credit text legible. Replacing the text would be a simple matter in Photoshop. Compared to the work I put into my website, something like this would be a breeze. The translations are the hard part and 90% of the work. But just scanning and typing is relatively simple. We just need enough people to spread the workload around so it doesn't overwhelm any one person.

Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*

Interesting. That supports my theory that Birla was meant to be a representation of old school Macross fans. -
Fascinating read. Thanks for posting it Shawn

The X-Men franchise is rapidly becoming the" Alien" or "Terminator" franchise for the new millennium. The first two movies were great, but everything after the first two has been mediocre or worse. Looks like Trek, of all things, is going to be the one bright spark this summer.
-
This promising film looks like it's getting dumped in some big dark hole beneath the summer box office. Theatrical release is limited to New York and Los Angeles. Not sure why, but that's disappointing. I was really looking forward to this one.

Wow! Looks amazing

Seto Kaiba Much appreciated, my friend. We'll get the Macross II section looking as sharp as the rest of the site. >EXO< I'm glad you enjoyed the update. It makes the work worthwhile. SchizophrenicMC Yeah, this update was big on revisions. Each new issue of the Chronicle brings attention to certain small details, especially the proper colors for the mecha. The Chronicle has really helped the visual translation of the M3. RedWolf Great catch! I'll correct that as soon as I get home today. As always, please submit any corrections for errors, grammar or spelling. Astute fans make the best editors I remember the term "Mainland" but I'm not sure if that's a name, a class designation or a nick name. I'll try to find some way to include it in the text, but I'm not sure of the context. ff95gj Thanks, it's great to have the website shared with the fans. By the way, I love your signature edwin3060 and anime52k8 I'll have to look at the VF-0D more specifically and make sure it's possible. I don't think there was anything specifically stating one way or the other. I'm not sure the vertical stabilizers would pose much of a problem for an Angel configuration, especially since they are folding mechanisms. But on the other hand, the "Angel" was an on-the-fly kind of configuration, so it may be limited to the "A" and "S" variants. Regarding the Macross Chronicle, I knew I'd get some negative feedback and I'm sorry. Some kind of compromise had to be made in favor of the Chronicle and to maintain a perspective for the mandate of what my site is actually supposed to do. It is a tool to promote Macross fandom, but it's not a file sharing site. Anyway, most of us have discussed this before, so I'll leave it at that for now. Sulendil Ang Hey, thanks for being such an enthusiastic fan. Your support is appreciated. REbirth Thanks for saying so and keep visiting! Dante74 A big thanks to you my friend. Your charts have yet again made the M3 that much better. I hope you liked the Zentradi/Meltrandi section. It was quite a lot of work to get all those Zentradi colored
-
LOL! You idiot. That's hilarious.
-
That is a fantastic idea! I'd definitely help with that. If we get a dozen or so people helping out, doing one page a week and the whole thing could be done in a year. The only real work is the typing and everyone does that here anyway

May 3, 2009 Major Update This update to the Macross Mecha Manual features 25 new profiles. For the sake of completeness, I am adding profiles with uncolored lineart (ex. Destroid Monster MK I). I feel it is important to include more mecha for the sake of visitor interest even if quality line art scans of these mecha cannot be obtained at this time. It is perhaps better to have an incomplete profile on the Macross Mecha Manual rather than no profile at all. Also, if visitors note the lack of a proper scan for a particular mecha, they may have the means to obtain a proper high resolution scan and would assist my website by submitting pictures. I've received fan requests for Macross Chronicle scans and now is as good at time as any to state why most of the series will not appear on this website. Since the Macross Chronicle is in publication, I will NOT be posting any marquee art pieces from the series (such as the Temjin Hidetaka fold outs). In regards to the remaining artwork, I will be posting mostly low resolution scans from the Chronicle, unless the artwork was previously released on the Macross Frontier official website or in Japanese hobby magazines. Eventually the low resolution scans will be upgraded to high resolution, but only once publication of the Macross Chronicle has ceased. I realize some fans may be disappointed, but a major part of the Macross Mecha Manual is promotion of the Macross franchise and to do that, we fans must ensure products like the Macross Chronicle remain viable during publication. Once product runs are over, the art history of Macross can be archived for posterity. But until then, please pay for the quality Macross products legally to ensure more Macross is made in the future. About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Wow, we were just talking about Tachikahoff Corporation last week. Weirdness. Well, this is good news. I'm glad the Chronicle is sourcing several materials. It's also interesting that the 19.1 ton figure (which we were also talking about a couple weeks back) seems to be confirmed now. But they call it "full weight" rather than just an ambiguous figure. At least the rail gun is confirmed. That's been a staple of the SAP translations for years. It's great that it's finally confirmed in the Chronicle. -
These are great. Thanks for the translations. The VF-25S Armored missile count is quite close to the initial fan estimates we made. I think we're only 4 missiles off

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
There is several unidentified ports on the VF-25S Armored Messiah that could be weapon ports. I once made a highlighted picture, which I will attach to this post. I'm thinking they may be the green (not the big guns, the smaller green ones) and blue highlighted areas on my Battroid picture, but that's just a guess. There is also a weird armored portion for the standard 25 mm guns on the VF-25S Fighter mode (the ones near the intakes). The armored portion features some kind of additional plate with an exit port for the standard 25mm gun underneath it, but then has two other ports. These additional ports could just be vents or gas exhaust of some kind (since the standard 25mm guns have these kind of slots as well). But there are four of them, two on each side and they appear about the same size as the 25 mm guns. See attached picture. -

Thanks Gubaba. We really appreciate it. I'm definitely looking forward to that armor translation. I have another fella that is helping with translations as well. Not sure how it's going to go, but we'll see. The more the merrier I think Macross has been pretty good at ammunition. They cheat like any action series would, but at least they show ammunition limits and reloading. I'd love ammo counts though. I may even hold out hope for some muzzle velocities -
Saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine last night. Big, dumb and cliched as all hell. However, as a completely brainless action film, it's entertaining on about the same level as The Transporter franchise or the Blade films, for what that's worth. I'd give it 2.5 out of 5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't even come close to X-Men or X2. It's less depressing and less disappointing than X-Men 3, but is actually even more dumb and cliched than even Ratner's slightly better than mediocre trilogy cap.

Doesn't sound too bad. It's good to see the rail gun confirmed. I hope there are some other goodies in there. -
It's a paraphrase of Bonasera's speech from the opening to The Godfather. Seemed fitting
-
This looks great. Each new picture is better than before. You're definitely onto something with this design. It's great. Personally, I'd stick with the legs inverted so the feet close to a point in fighter mode. Makes your craft very unique among the valkyries. It would also make the transformation more interesting.

Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Go Gubaba, you bad man you I have to ditto Graham's enthusiasm about what they have to say for the gun pods in Issue #22. It would be great if we got some new technology jargon and statistics for them. I'd love to see ammunition counts as well. They are the star of the show (after missiles) so it would be nice to get a little more detail. -
I believe in Macross World. Macross World has made my fandom. And I raised my website in the Macross fashion. I gave her life and honored Macross World with her birth, but I vowed never to dishonor those who had helped me achieve my dream. One day a boy joined the forums. He posted in threads. He wrote extensively. I didn't protest. Then he began spamming the forums. Posting inappropriate pictures. Berating the members like animals. He was breaking the spirit of our beloved message board. A beautiful message board. Now she will never be beautiful again. I went to my fellow members, like a good Macross World member. We confronted this boy and tried to teach him a lesson. The boy laughed at us and our petty lessons. He trolled as never before, that very day! I stood among my fellow Macross World members like a fool, and that bastard, he smiled at me. Then I said to my fellow members, "For justice, we must go to Don EXO."
