Macross that you haven't watched but you know you must?
Mr March replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
I've seen everything Macross now, but of note is the fact that up until recently I had never watched Macross 7 all the way through. I did watch the first dozen or so episodes of Macross 7 many, many years ago. Perhaps even before I joined MW, but I can't say for sure. I was never able to finish until about a year or so back when I watched the entire series by motivating myself to do research for my website, the M3. To me, Macross 7 is a series for which the words "never again" carry special meaning. -
About the Macross Chronicles

That sounds great and dead on perfect with the animation. It's also good to finally have a designation for the gun pod too. Thanks for the translation Renato. I'd definitely be interested in a cheaper alternative to the binders. Thanks for the links. -
How often do you watch Macross or Macross-related media?
Mr March replied to Vepariga's topic in Movies and TV Series
In building my website, I had to watch all of Macross to re-familiarize myself with shows I've seen and to watch some Macross I hadn't actually seen all the way through (like Macross 7). I've also had to go back and rewatch various episodes and movies to fact check. So in recent years, I've watched a great deal of Macross Ordinarily, I watch films and previous series based upon a combination of interest, familiarity and the time passed since last viewing. These rules apply to ALL films and shows I enjoy and each criteria has different weight when applied to a given film or show. For example, I will re-watch newer material in a shorter period of time than older material simply because a) I'm not as familiar with material recently released and b) I'm typically very interested in new material, even it it's only been a short time since my last viewing. I watch SDF Macross, FB2012, DYRL, Macross Plus and Macross Frontier the most. With the exception of Frontier, I've seen all these at least half a dozen times each. SDF Macross and Macross Plus are the Macross productions with which I'd say I'm most familiar. I've watched Macross II, Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero all twice, which was far more viewing that I should have given them. I've seen Macross 7 once all the way through (the first dozen episodes I've seen twice now) and will never, ever watch it twice -
Need Scans Pics & Info On VF-5000 Any Variants
Mr March replied to Valk009's topic in Movies and TV Series
Those are the old ones from the magazines that I was talking about. I was asking if there was ever a follow up model/toy line for the VF-5000 (aside from those tiny statues). -
Need Scans Pics & Info On VF-5000 Any Variants
Mr March replied to Valk009's topic in Movies and TV Series
Glad I could help. Your project sounds very ambitious and I hope to see more. Has there even been a model of the VF-5000 since those old customs in the old hobby magazines? The VF-5000 would make a relatively distinct project. -
DeX-kun Well, the Macross Frontier movie will be a much simpler version of the series, just like all film adaptations are. I actually think a film adaptation might be more enjoyable for those who had issue with the series, since many of scenes which seemed to bother some fans obviously won’t have time to be featured in a film adaptation. The film should be more focused and story-driven by necessity. Duke, Oh, come on, let’s not be like that. You know I respect your opinion, I just disagree. What I'm saying is this length argument makes no sense to me, especially as a do-or-die determinant of the Macross Frontier movie. The Macross Plus movie was fine as a film adaptation of the Macross Plus series. The determining factor wasn’t length; it wasn’t even that Macross Plus was conceptualized as a film script. Same thing with DYRL? as a movie adaptation of SDF Macross, 36 episodes or not. A good Macross film adaptation can’t be reduced to formula or distilled to factors like “length” or “new animation.” If making movies were that simple, studios would have long ago dispensed with directors, writers and producers. Digressing back to my response to aerocombatpilot which began all this, no, I don’t believe length of the Macross Frontier series is some YAY/NAY determining factor for the end result. I think re-using previously used footage can turn out fine for a film adaptation and length is irrelevant. I'd be careful with offering an invitation like that

I heard SDF Macross was 36 episodes and Macross 7 was 49 episodes

Need Scans Pics & Info On VF-5000 Any Variants
Mr March replied to Valk009's topic in Movies and TV Series
This is the only other VF-5000 line art I have that isn't on the M3. I've never been able to find a high resolution scan of it. Anyone have it? Don't be shy if ya do -
Gurren Lagann? That would be apples and oranges But seriously, I don't see length being of any consequence in the Macross Plus example, especially when that criticism is avoiding the issue, which is that a Macross movie can be better even using re-used footage. I will say that as much as I am looking forward to the MF movie, I'd much rather they make the film into a 2 hour episode ala Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

I'm not so sure. A majority of the fans enjoyed the Macross Plus movie more than the series, even though 90% of the movie is simply recycled footage.

About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I thought the VF-17's gun pod was passively stealthy so as not to disrupt the Nightmare's own passive stealth capabilties. The VF-17 passive stealth would be compromised if it carried a regular gun pod, which would enlarge the radar cross-section of the craft rather than reduce it. -
If the Thor film adaptation is going to be some mindless action cliche like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Levesque would be the way to go. If Branagh is going for any kind of character quality in this film (ala Downey's Stark in Iron Man), they need someone who has acting chops and Levesque is not it. Much still seems up in the air regarding this film. I'm still surprised Branagh is even attached to this picture, as he seems an odd choice for this material. But I suppose the choice of director depends upon which way they are going with the story. Branagh might be a fine choice if they go all mythological with the film. If they did the Simonson-era style and stories, it could be quite grandiose. But methinks that would have to be a trilogy to pull off

About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
LOL! Comedy gold Well, since we're discussing the gun pod beam adapter, here's some shots taken from the Remastered DVD sets of Macross 7. A big thanks to DarkReaper for providing these screen shots. From most of the screenshots, it appears the gun pod beam adapter fits both inside the standard gun pod AND the improperly colored forward barrel of the beam adapter itself fits over the front of the gun. Sadly, the forward barrel of the beam adapter appears to be missing in the last screenshot. -
I'm amazed at your work. Very impressive! The animation of the Battle Frontier was incredible. I can see great potential for some amazing animations with your models. I can't wait for more!

Thanks for the news and the pictures kresphy. It's looking good!

About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Just something to keep in mind, the VF-17 gun pod had the option of mounting a gun pod beam adapter. This was the big red block Gamlin would install on his gun pod to fire a big beam, which repeatedly demolished Gavil's FBz-99G Saubergeran in a single shot. -
I thought that too, but the Compendium says there is no class assigned to the Saratoga II. I've been told the "Macross 13 Fleet Carrier" designation comes from the Miyatake Design Works book.
-
That's the Saratoga II. It hasn't been assigned a class, even though it looks similar to a Uraga in form and function. I've been told it's called Macross 13 Fleet Carrier.

Amazing pictures. Well done!

More like this... RAmen

But you both have to admit, the picture looks sensationally dramatic! I like it.
-
Damn straight!!! Whoa! Wait a minute. I thought Macross was a stuck-in-the-1980s fandom. When did this board jump to pining away for a 1990's golden age?

It looks kinda big. Almost double what it should be. Official height for the Reguld is 15.1 meters (roughly 50 feet tall). While the height of buildings obviously vary from one to another, the average storey is 10 feet high. SO the Reguld looks much larger than it should. The pilot of a Reguld that big would probably be about the size of Bodolzaa (who is about 15 meters tall himself)
