  1. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that Evolution took their design inspiration for the SAP from the look of the 1992 Bandai model kit, especially the height and shape of the cowl. They definitely did NOT follow the line art. Graham
  2. Never heard the Shammy one before. Definitely Ranka.

    Bandai DX VF-31

Actually, it always surprised me in Frontier that the RVF-25/171 were not dedicated 2-seater, stretched cockpit Valks, like the YF-25 Prophecy. I know with the level of technology a lot of functions are automated, but still having a back-seater to handle the Radar/Drones/other sensors/ELINT functions would have made the pilot's workload a lot easier. But I guess that would have involved introducing another main character besides Luca. At least most of the time in space, they had Luca standing off and not getting involved in direct combat. Graham
  4. I do find it pretty interesting that NUNS are still using the VF-171 as the main frontline VF in 2067 (as shown in the prologue episode). As an out of universe explanation, it's probably as the same reason as in Frontier, that Kawamori didn't want the use a design that too resembles the hero mecha, so he didn't base the current NUNS main VF on the YF-24 Evolution or a variant of the VF-25. As in in-universe explanation, I guess it could be any or all of the following: Cost of replacing the VF-171 is too high for NUNS outer rim fleets/planets. NUNS wants to keep more advanced VFs closer to home, in case of rebellion, doesn't want more advanced designs falling into the wrong hands. More advanced designs haven't filtered out to the outlying NUNS worlds/fleets yet (although other groups obviously have them, i.e. Delta & Ariel Knights). Actually, one of the things I like about Macross is just like real life military planes, VFs remain in service for years if not decades before being replaced by a newer model.
  5. A Bandai 1/60 DX VF-2SS, fully detailed, fully tampo'd with SAP is my new holy grail, likely never happen though. I do think we shouldn't be expecting too much from Evolution toys. perfect transformation VF toys are not an easy thing to manufacture or get right, if you don't have experience of them. Look how long it took Yamato. Even a toy giant like Bandai who had years of mecha experience with Gundam, struggled at first with Frontier Valks and have only hit their stride in the last few years. Bandai DX VF-31

I'm pretty sure the Delta squadron VF-31 all have a rear seat anyway, likely a folding rear seat like in the 25/27/29 series. We saw one of the Walkure girls jump from the cockpit of one of the VF-31s in the prologue episode.
  7. While the panel lines look great on these, at the 500 Yen price point I'm not expecting too much in the way of pre-colouring and I expect markings will probably be foil stickers if Bandai's track record with small, low-priced kits is anything to go by. Graham
  8. Yeah the plastic looks cheap. Yeah at first glance the SAP version can easily be mistaken for the unpainted Bandai model kit from the 90s. And yeah, it will probably be a froppy mess that doesn't lock together well, but it is the only game in town, even if it's far from perfect. So I'm sticking with my order. Fully understand why many are staying away though.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'm wondering if that is why we haven't seen the VF-31E in toy form yet..........Bandai's toy designers are still scratching their heads trying to figure out how to implement the folding radome......hahah
  10. I have the feeling that the only reason this movie project was given the green light was because of the runaway success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is post 1977 all over again....hahaha. No doubt in the next few years, we'll see a who bunch of space opera movies, hoping to rake in some of the Star Wars dollars.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'm really curious how the radome folds up on the VF-31E and if Bandai will be able to implement it in the DX toy, or whether they will make it a parts-former and give us an open radome and a seperate part for the folded up radome. Also I really want to get a closer look at the FAST packs we glimpsed in the preview episode. I wonder if on the VF-31A, the opening storage in the backs on the legs hold micro-missiles instead of the boomerang drones. I hope so.
  12. These look awesome. I'll skip the VF-1, as I'm all burnt out on classic Macross at the moment, but I'll definitely be up for the VF-31.
  13. Hey, the VA-3 is awesome.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'm definitely gonna be picking up 3 of these (1 each of Delta 01, 02 & 03). And also a VF-31A if Bandai make it. I'm definitely looking forward to these more than the Sv-262. My current plan is to only buy one Sv-262.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'm still hoping that the left side of the charger pod is an offensive gunpod and not actually part of the charger system.

    Bandai DX VF-31

The boomerang drones are stored in the back of the Valk's lower legs, not in the charger pod

Completely agree, it's gorgeous. Graham Hope somebody can translate all that text ASAP.
  18. Hey, it's winter now!

    Bandai DX VF-31

I'll definitely buy one each of 01, 02 and 03. 02 = best overall colour scheme + cool marking on the back, plus awesome kick ass combat pilot, only downside is the head design is not that great, but I'll keep it in fighter mode anyway, so who cares. 01 = cool marking on the back + best looking head, but so-so color scheme, cool pilot. 03 = Radome.......yay!
  20. I'm with WM Cheng on this, Bandai VF-19 Advance all the way. The Arcadia really looks too unfinished in terms of lack of Tampo printing and lack of molded in detail and panel lines. I also totally agree the Arcadia's nose is too droopy. Too me, the Bandai just looks so much better and accurate to the line art, especially the side view fighter mode. Plus the Arcadia has too many annoying problems that don't make it a fun toy, such as the loose ankles and loose high speed mode wing hinge.
  21. Hmm..........I'm gonna wait to see if these are snap-fix and molded in the correct colors before ordering. I'm crap at painting and model building in general, so if these require paint and glue, I'm out. But at this price point, my expectations are not high.

    Bandai DX VF-31

I've never needed to use the brace on my 30

    Bandai DX VF-31

Pass on big Walkure figures for me, not into idol figures at all. But if Bandai released each VF-31 with an in-scale standing mini-figure of the pilot and the associated Walkure singer, I'd be up for that.
  24. I have to be really bored or there's absolutely nothing else on TV to watch this show. I did try honestly, but they lost me at how they portrayed Deathlok in season 1. Graham
