I actually enjoyed it. I liked the new Earth fighter designs and thought the dogfight were pretty cool.- 277 replies

Just a test shot, I'm sure tolerances will be tightened up and gaps reduced before the December release. That's usual how things work.

Well, finished building mine yesterday, just gotta apply the stickers, but will do that tomorrow. Gotta say, it locks together pretty well in Fighter mode, with one exception, the two small white pieces that fit just ahead of the railgun muzzles, they don't lock in place very well. Anybody else having that problem. Haven't transformed it yet. As I'm not gonna use the decal sheet, if anybody wants it, I'll post it to them, as long as you PayPal me the postage cost. PM me, first come, first served.

I've got the nose, forward fuselage, backplate and one wing done so far, just straight snap-fit build + panel lining with a Gundam marker and using the stickers. Just spending about an hour on it each night, 3 nights in so far. I've gotta say what I've built so far locks together very well. The engineering that went into this is pretty impressive.

I disagree. The micro-missiles carried on the legs of the YF-29 look to be of a much smaller type than those carried by the VF-31. Also the way they are stored is very different. The YF-29's tiny micro-missile are basically stored stacked single layer deep like drinks on a drink tray on the outside of the lower legs, covered by a clamshell hatch cover and designed for mass fire once the clamshell cover opens, with two small ports in each clamshell cover for auxiliary fire without needing to open the clamshell covers (obviously at a mach lower rate of fire, compared to if the clamshell covers are open). The VF-31 by comparison seems to fire a larger type of micro missile through a larger closed port launching door, which is likely fed from a tube type magazine. Given the guesstimated space taken up by the engine, the internal capacity of these micro-missile launchers is probably fairly small. I estimate based on the visual size of the launching port door and the micro missiles as shown in the anime, this is likely 3, certainly no more than 4 missiles per launcher. I do wish that Kawamori would definitely state data on the number of internal missiles carried and also on gunpod calibre and magazine capacity for all VFs. -
Did a bit more tonight. Doing a little every night. Forward fuselage and chestplate done. That's enough for tonight, now off to watch episode 10 of season 6 of Game of Thrones. Have to say what little I've done so far locks together well in Fighter mode and no real need to use more than a couple of dabs glue so far.

Although I've yet to do a scene by scene comparison. Going by memory I suspect that was reused animation from Messer's missile launch scene in episode 10 at 20:03.I have a feeling that 3 missiles per launcher is probably the maximum capacity, giving 18 missiles in total. -
I'm using the stickers. The blue horizontal stripe below the cockpit in my photo is the only sticker I've applied so far. Quality seems fine to me, it seems to adhere well enough. I'm just snapping this kit together as quickly as I can and using a Gundam marker for the panel lines. I'm not skilled or patient enough to use paint or decals.

Just finished snapping together the nose section. That's enough for tonight. Now to watched episode 13.

I presume there is a decent amount of mecha action this week? -

Not exactly. The whole GAU-8 Avenger canon assembly including barrels, breach mechanism, drive and magazine is about the length of a VW Beetle. The magazine is not as big as the whole car. -
I'm of the opposite opinion. I think the physical model kit representation of the Super Parts actually looks better than how I remember the animated CGI version looking in the show.

Yeah, single barrel and quite large calibre by the look of it. I'm glad we are seeing a move to more advanced technology in the form of rapid fire rail guns, rather than having them using conventional cased propellant ammunition. Having them as rail guns also makes it easier to store more ammo in a smaller space. -

I'd say it has to be in the forearm as the hands do not retract into the forearm, so there should be room for a fairly decent ammo capacity in there, even including any other mechanical gubins inside. I'm estimating around 200 to 300rds per gun. And bear in mind as the arm guns are rail guns, the ammo will take up less space as you only need to store the projectiles, there is no need for a cartridge case for propellant -

I'm pretty sure the arm guns they are single barrel. Their rate of fire doesn't seem super high to me based on the animation, around. Single barrel modern day aircraft cannon are capable of quite high rates of fire. For example the Eurofighter Typhoon's 27mm Mauser cannon has a rate of fire of 1,700 rounds per second. The Siegfreid's rate of fire looks about similar to me. And who knows, being rail guns and presumably powered by the VF-31's reactor output, maybe they can have a higher rate of fire. -
Just got my payment request from HLJ for the VF-31J.
