Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Probably inadvisable. There's a reason one of the five main types of Irish folk song is "The fae are back on their bullsh*t and I got bamboozled". 🤣 Seems like it'd be in poor taste to name a resort ship meant for tourism after a magical island that you can't leave without recreating the "He chose poorly" scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Doubly so if the scholars are correct and Emhain is an cognate of what's now called Avalon in Arthurian mythos. Avalon isn't a place of bounty for living souls to visit, it's a place for the dead and dying and not somewhere people generally come back from. Then again, naming a resort ship with an underground factory after a beautiful seaside town in a kingdom ruled by underground by a power-hungry technocrat is a bit on the nose too. -

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
Big s replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It’s the same issue with most comic book movies. I’d imagine that the people in charge really don’t care about the source material and then force things in they think will sell better and remove things they don’t understand -

Didn't everyone say that's what Stealth was? -
I don't know what category. This belongs in. It seems like a insert to a bulk magazine I didn't want to take out all of the contents

1/48 Hasegawa VF-1S "What If?" US Navy VF-84 Jolly Rogers Low Viz
JNordgren42 replied to JNordgren42's topic in The Workshop!
I got the pilot all cleaned up and put together, seams filled, base coat down, and the first round of detail painting done on the body. I also got the head base coated with yellow for the shell as a nod to the old school Jolly Rogers livery. The visor was based on gloss black, then had a very light directional mist of Alclad chrome from the front, and finally topped with clear blue. I really like the effect it produces. Finally, I finished the detailing on the accessory parts, including the clear blue and clear red on the front main gear doors. At this point, I just need to finish the pilot and the oil weathering and I'll be ready for final assembly. I used a lot of subtle variations of greys and greens for the detail painting, I think it adds a lot of life and should really look great once I get some washes and dry brushing done for some more contrast and to highlight things. A new truck I very recently learned for painting yellow is to undercoat with a light pink. It really helps to make the difficult color pop without having to put down too many coats. This is with just a single relatively light coat after laying down the pink. Accessory parts all laid out and waiting for assembly. I really like how the combination of the PE insert, the clear UV resin, and clear top color came together to make the doors pop. -

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
pengbuzz replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll agree; One Piece does a good job at that for the most part. I just cringe anymore when it's announced a studio "has an adaption coming". I remember reading a supposed version of "the upcoming Voltron movie" (yeah, the original was King of 100 Beasts GoLion) that made me glad it went back to development hell. I think I know the answer already, but I'll just ask anyways: why do they ignore the source material when doing this? I know some stuff may not translate well into our culture or may be too weird/ perverted/ violent/ other-reason-I-can't-think-of-right-now. But in much of what I've seen, these things are barely recognizable from their sources and in at least a few cases, are practically unwatchable (imo). *praying they never try a live action adaption of Macross Plus* -

Do you know if they currently have any flights or cruises out to there? Asking for a friend... -
Got another one; this time for the 22 inch (1/537) "Cutaway" TOS-E that I designed. The ones included in the first issue weren't accurate, and these are for folks who bought or already have that kit:

I didn’t know they ruined Doom twice. I saw a live action one a few years back that really sucked and maybe that was enough that when I hear the name Doom, I stay far away unless it’s for a video game -

Psylocke looks good. Can't wait. Be sure to check your order from time to time. At least one person had their order cancelled. https://www.toyark.com/forums/showpost.php?p=945085&postcount=83148
