John Oliver had mentioned a month or two ago that Paramount/Skydance wanted to purchase Warner Bros/HBO. This purchase by Netflix is most likely the lesser of two evils.

That’s been the plan for a while, was just a matter of who put up the big bucks to do the purchase. Even if it had turned out paramount or any of the others, they were gonna get rid of the hbo max app and merge it into whoever won the bid

that was before the big bids dropped, just kinda happier it went to Netflix so I don’t have to get paramount. I’d rather spend a little more on the one I do have than have to get the one nobody has

I just remembered I have a HBO/Hulu/D+ monthly bundle and guess it'll just be a Hulu/D+ bundle soon, lol. 

Anyways, Netflix+HBO will demolish the competition.

There's rumblings that Paramount may file a lawsuit over this to challenge Netflix's purchase. As of posting, Paramount was ready to perform a hostile takeover by doing an all-cash deal at $30/share, versus Netflix's $27.75/share. Minus regulatory, we'll see what happens over the coming weeks/years.

It’s gonna just be D+. Hulu is merging with Disney and that app will be gone in a few months

I wouldn't be surprised by what Azrael just said. When I heard about it this morning we were talking about this at work and co workers and I agreed something or someone even be it a government entity will probably step in or object to it because it's thinning out the market. 

Personally I'm very sick and tired of these high streaming prices and the content they produce along with the amount of time it takes to create the content. It's as expensive as cable and satelite. And really the only streaming service I seem to like right now is Tubi since it's free and they also get some quality programing on their setup, sure it's got ads, but seeing how it's free that's worth the hassle of ads.

The Writers Guild isn't cool with this either. This drama makes me realize how weak the competition (P+, A+, D+, Prime, etc) is.

I still think it would’ve been hilarious if Disney bought it up. All of a sudden, there’d be the awkward JL Avengers movie or teen new mutants or Deadpool vs Peacemaker movie

I doubt this purchase will go through. There's too many parties involved (politicians, unions, and other corporations) for it to pass unless Netflix made a hefty contribution to Trump.

Definitely a lot of things that will be getting in the way. Although there is a lot of cash flowing from different sources. I’m really just hoping it doesn’t go to Paramount

Hbo/max , aside from a few shows, has been quite the dud, imo. Whoever gets it, hopefully will infuse it w more content that's worthy.

I think it’s been alright for the shows and movies, mostly the non DC stuff. Weapons was surprisingly fun for a movie and shows like Welcome to Derry and Rightous Gemstones are pretty great. Sure not everything big is a win, but I think they have more hits than misses. Also Primal is coming back and Smiling Friends is a great way to waste of time. Plus if the live action DC stuff is a letdown, a lot of the animated stuff is kinda cool, with the exception of Harley Quinn and Kite Man and a couple others.
