Not to derail our beloved thread into a "chicks with boomsticks" thread but this has always been a favorite picture of mine... not a dupe, not a photochop, this is an actual picture taken in Israel.

Girl's night out at the ice cream shop... after all, a girl can never be too safe when out with friends. And that creepy ice cream mascot might start some sh!t.

And the funny thing is that they probably aren't even in the military. From what I've heard, most high school age kids and young adults are encouraged, probably even required to keep firearms such as the ones featured to help protect smaller children going to school. God, if only things were like that here in the states as it used to be, the country would probably be a safer place.

My first pistol was a Ruger P95....it was a nice weapon that never had any problems, my only beef with it, is it is a 9mm. The weapons was really nice to learn to shoot on and it came with a 15 round clip, as I recall(I bought used) If you are looking for a good 9mm, and dont like such weapons as Glocks, then maybe a ruger would work for you.....but I guess that I am just partial to Glocks.

I don't really have any reason to dislike the Glock, other than the street reputation. I will fully admit that I find the Ruger to be the more aesthetically pleasing of the less expensive pistols. This weekend a few friends and I plan to go up to one of the better equipped ranges and rent a few different brands and do a little testing/feeling out. Unfortunately, while everyone around here carries and sells most of the major lines, it seems like the rental guns are all Glocks and S&W. I think it might be time to take a hint :)

I picked up a new Shotgun last night, should be fun at the skeet club, Mossberg model 590 pump action "Special Purpose" 12 gauge:

No, it's almost certain they're in the military. Everyone in Isreal has to enter the reserves at 18, and they're required to carry their weapons at all times. I sorta wish I lived there....

I don't own a Glock, but I think it has to be one of biggest victims of "urban myths." All I ever hear about is how any glock other than the 9mm models is a potential KB waiting to happen, how they'll all crack and fall apart, and how the barrels will become plugged with lead fouling and again KB on the shooter. Its the new 1911 for misinformation.

As the proud owner of two Glocks I can say all the urban myths are TRUE! You really CAN walk through an airport metal detector with them and it not go off! They really CAN shoot in space! They really DO explode if you don't burp their tupperware parts every time you clip up! And they WILL melt into goo if you shoot them too fast!

Because you know, Glocks are so terrible that every gun maker started making their own plastic framed clones of them just so they could be "in" on the whole conspiracy to flood the world with cheap unsafe plastic guns that kill the user.

weird to me those girls look like 15/16 years old.

for glocks one thing I don't like about them is the toy gun feel with you sqeeze the trigger. Makes me think a rubber suction dart going to shoot out of it.

change guy to gun  not to give out some weird messages with "toy guy"

Oh I wasn't putting down the Glock weapons or inferring that they have any reputation for malfunction, where I grew up in SoCal all the Homey and Chollo thugs used to love to brag about their Glocks in highschool, just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth after one of my friends got shot. It isn't a rational reason to dislike the brand, the name just has a negative connotation in my mind.

I have heard nothing but positive things from Glock owners and users and the fact that they seem to be the weapon of choice of many major P.D.'s says somthing about thier safety and reliability.

I was looking around and stumbled across the Mauser M2 by Sigarms, any of you guys ever have a chance to handle one of those? Any thoughts on them worth sharing?

That's just it. Most of the people who put down Glocks don't own one.

It's been my experience that some folks (mostly the gangbangers and the stupid) have adopted "Glock" as a synonym for "handgun". Every time I spend a few hours in my friend's gunshop just hanging out helping him sell some items there always are one or two groups of "gangbanger" looking posers (or they could actually be gang members you never know) come into his shop and point at every pistol in the case and call it a Glock. It's a fork on a chalkboard to my ears to constantly hear "there go a little Glock", "damn look at that big Glock", "these are tight Glocks", etc, etc, etc into insanity. One time we even had a guy walk up to the counter, which is a glass display case filled with actual Glocks and ask us "you guys got them Glocks here?".

These are the same guys that point at AR15s on the wall and call them M16's, point at SKSes and call them AK's, point at Mini 14's and call them AK's, and on and on and on.

Hell, I was even carrying in a shoulder holster one day at the shop openly (took off my jacket) that had my G21 in it and a guy asked me if I ever owned a Glock.

If I recall correctly from listening to G. Gordon Liddy's show when he visited Israel, there were quite a few people carrying personal sidearms and automatic rifles that were not in the IDF. His military guides said as much when they were escorting him through parts of the areas he was visiting when he asked. This was why I brought that up in my earlier post. And another thing, if you notice, some of the weapons aren't loaded. They just have a magazine attached to the weapon for easy access. If they were military, I would think the weapons would be locked and cocked.

Israel, being a country constantly "under attack", has a different mindset than us spoiled frightened children in america. Basicaly everyone over there is put into manditory military service at the age of 18 after graduating high school unless they have a physical handicap that prevents it. After their manditory military service all able bodied men and women consider themselves Israel's "Second line of defense" either in spirit or by continuing their military service as reserve forces. Either way, by the time your average Israeli is 21 they have more small arms training and military toughness than any group of americans. The girls shown in the photo are actually off-duty IDF soldiers visiting a local ice cream shop. The M16's around their shoulders are their duty weapons, which they are allowed to carry openly "off duty". When they "retire" from military service they can purchase just about any small arm they want with very little restriction from the government and use it to "defend themselves"... which includes open carry of full auto and SMG's. A friend of mine who is Jewish made her pilgramage to Israel two years ago and brought back a lot of pics just like the one I posted... you can see men pushing strollers with full auto Uzi SMGs slung over their shoulder beside baby bags, you can see women in business suits with hip holsters with G17's and you even see the occasional boy or girl in a high school uniform with a rifle slung.

There are two rules of the world: you don't eat the yellow snow and you do not, under any circomstances, f##k with Israel. They take their slogan of "never again" quite seriously, and you have to admire them for that.

An interesting new prototype weapon, the DREAD is catchin' some DOD folks' interest... http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7365

See movie link here... http://defensereview.com/dad/dread.mov

This sounds like one of those carny airguns on crack! Seriously, tho... it addresses small arms issues like mechanical integrity, ammo saftey, & (lack of) heat signature... tho it seems to belong to the same school of fire suppression thought as the minigun... ie - send up loads of lead (or ball bearings, in this case) and watch evryone fall down go boom!!! :D Seems like the main concern (other than an electrical power source) would be the vast amount of ammo ya'd likely need to cart around; although that is somewhat mitigated by the fact that the ammo is simple small ball bearings...

the dread looks like a realy big landmine but it is interesting. The movie almost reminded me of those videos of the guns in the doom3 game. If the end it has said safer worlds with superior firepower I would proly pass out.

Here I go dragging out the old thread once again. Got my new toy today. See picture below. I know some of you out there love the evil black rifle, so I'll let you know I am going to start customizing soon. First things I am going to get are the replacement M4 type handguards and a combat sling. I kind of have my eye on this one: http://www.quanticoarms.com/graphics/items/200ODERB.jpg. Then I'll be looking for some kind of optics system, which is why I got the A3 configuration. I can shoot just fine with the old iron sights, but I want to come into the 21st century, so I'm thinking about this one: http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/products1.cfm?PartID=481, but at the price of these things I am considering one of the cheaper EOTech models, preferably the model 552: http://www.quanticoarms.com/asp/itemDetail...=96&CMSN=Optics. Another thing I would like to change is the flash suppressor. I just did not realize how cheezy the Bushmaster Izzy type was because I never saw one close up. I'll probably see if I can get the welded pin removed from the barrel and just use one of the aftermarket Phantom flash compensators. Any further tips and suggestions would be appreciated. I would really like to soup this baby up.

Personally I'd go with this optical setup.

One thing I hate about the modern M16/M4 is the A2 style pistol grip. Gotta be the most uncomfortable rifle grip ever designed IMO (at least for my hand). Not only is it too skinny (and I only have average size hands), but that bloody finger groove is intensly uncomfortable for me. It falls right under my finger instead of between.

If I were to ever buy an M16/M4 type rifle, the first thing I would do would be to replace the standard grip with an Ergo Grip.

Mind you, I'd rather have an FN FAL, HK G3 or that Robinson Recon M96 rifle anyday over an M16/M4.

Damn right. go .30 cal or go home, says I. :p

Although from what JsARC has told me, that M96 rifle might not be all its cracked up to be.

I've never had any problem with the rifle grip. I must have one of those pair of hands which fit it well...

I've always had sort of big hands and have found the original A1 AR15 grip to be quite comfortable when shooting. The reason they added that stupid finger rest on the A2 grips was because of mine and everyone else's complaint about the A1 grip: being made of solid plastic with little traction when you really sweat that grip gets very slippery and your hold position starts to slide upwards into the trigger guard. Not only is that uncomfortable but there is this tiny gap in the trigger guard so the guard can rotate down for use with winter gloves and when your hand is forced up into that gap it creates a nice blister causing condition that only gets worse with rapid fire.

The two kinds of aftermarket grips for AR's that I prefer are the age old trusty Hogue rubberized grip and the fairly new First Samco/Fobus Tactical grip. When it comes to AR grips there are so many on the market now and they all have different feels to them that it makes it hard for you to find one you like without shopping around. After all, grips are a very personal thing and one person's likes do not always translate to another person. I'm just glad the AR family has become sort of the IBM of rifles in that everyone makes accessories for them and the options for almost every part of the weapon seem limitless... on the other hand the grip pannels on my Uzi are uncomfortable as hell and I really wish Hogue made rubberized grips for them.

When I was working as a cop in Ms. We had that type grips on all our M4s. Talk about major comfort and I loved the ablity to get a better grip. Last I heard there a alot of Poice agancys are suppose to be switching to those grips for thier weapons

Hey, I like the A2 grip! And I have quite small hands, too. I can barely reach the controls of a USP or a P99, even if I shift hand position, and can hardly operate an M9 or SigPro with my hands in position. Glocks are tolerable, but so wide. And forget Desert Eagles...

Anyone got recommendations on that, by the way? It'll be a while until I can buy a handgun, but I'd like something I'm not fumbling with. I was thinking Sig P239?

You have to watch out on those smaller autos like the 239 and the P99. Their short barrels and tight recoil operations make some of them kick pretty hard compared to other pistols in their caliber. It's a weird tightrope to walk in that the larger a pistol gets the more spread out the controls get and the harder they are to work with smaller hands but the smaller a pistol gets the more crunched together everything gets and the harsher the recoil from shooting. Are there specific controls you are having a hard time reaching? I know a few autos that seem to be made for people with small hands or short fingers that have much easier recoils than some.

Then again most pistols are two hand operation anyway. I personally rarely use the slide release on my pistols, I just pull back the slide to release it. The only controls that I concern myself with on pistols are mag release (if it's an auto) and the trigger. Everything else you can use your off hand to push.

Mag releases are all ackward on anything I've used, and I can hardly operate the "lever" style releases at all. (as on USP or P99) Overall, as well, I find pistols like Glocks uncomfortable, due to the wideness of the grip. One of the very few "normal" pistols where everything seems right to me is the single stack 1911, so that's probably an option. (Except for the fact that the slide release is unreachable, but I can probably work around that. Do 1911 slides release automatically when a loaded mag is inserted?)

Recoil's not a huge deal, I'm in LA, so CCW is a non-option, it'll mostly be a range gun, and something to keep around the house, just in case. I'm not overall small, either, I just have "girl hands", for some reason. I always wanted a Ruger MkI as a plinker, too, I know those are pretty handlable for the small-handed.

1911 slides don't close on mag insertion. But just like any auto you can pull the slide back a little with a mag in and it'll slam home same as if you hit the release. I feel your pain I have small hands too. Luckily I'm left-handed and I work the slide release with my index finger and the mag release with the middle finger. It works out quite nicely in the end. :)
