  1. I would like to request advice from the ise membership of this forum. I have a son, who has recently turned 8. As I was imbibing subitled SDFM, he noticed. But I don't think he can read fast enough to watch subtitled stuff. I found a dubioius Russian voiceover of DYRL (we're a bilingual family here, Russian and English). We watched that together, ahd he liked it very much, but had way more questions than answers. I could not help him because my reaction to the movie was the same. (Well I did find some answers by googling and asking here, yet...) I am thinking of getting voiceover SDFM for him (or the ADV 2006 dub, which is probably better than any fan/pirate voiceover despite the age discrepancy with Minmay, which undfortunately does get heard sometimes). But, what after the 36 episodes? I would not feel comfortable giving Frontier to an 8 year old. It has way too many adult themes, not to mention Sheryl "Hopes and Dreams" Nome (in the movies she becomes, for this purpose, Sheryl "Universal Bunny" Nome). What *can* I give him if he asks for more Macross, seeing as I do have it? Is M7 more child-safe than Frontier? Or should I just tell him "get these and you get more when you turn 13"? Or go the easy way and give him Robotech instead? But, Reba West. I don't want him getting the idea that THIS is the kind of culture that can impress aliens. (Yes, Minmay is pop, but she's good pop).
  2. We are thinking about doing a short Max & Milia wedding ceremony at Otakon 2013. It'd be great to have fellow Macross cosplayers in attendance. We're looking for someone interested in being Captain Global to conduct the ceremony. Contact me if you're interested.
  3. Encountered this amazing build by carefuldriverhongkon. at first i thought that this was not a lego model, but after a few seconds of watching it, i realized Oh My God!! It really is made of Lego. Its that amazing and of Engineering marvel that it rivals the model manufactured by Yamato... and oh... it transforms from ship mode to Battle mode too.. Heres the link
  4. Hi, I'm starting my 3d model of the VF-25F in solidworks. I hope to get it from a 3d printer. I'm looking for informations of details, some books you recommend? Grts, Pablo
  5. From the album: Zenkaikon 2013

Picture of us with Robotech's Ben Dixon voice actor Richard Epcar at Zenkaikon 2013. During our Macross/Robotech panel at Zenkaikon we showed a special tribute to Ben Dixon. It's posted on vimeo now: https://vimeo.com/62740839 It depicts the fun loving & jovial Ben Dixon and hints at the aviation origins of his Robotech name, the character was originally Hayao Kakizaki in Macross.
  6. From the album: Macross at Tekkoshocon X-2

I composited our group picture from Tekkoshocon with a great valkyrie picture that I found with google. I can't take any credit for the background image but my hat's off to whoever created it.
  7. Hello all, I'm an old time Macross fan and I used to do Macross related CGI work in the past, my latest project is building a 3D CAD model of the Macross Fanracer (or Fan Racer) Hikaru pilots at the beginning of the Macross TV show. I did some changes to modernize the shape a bit, and I'm planning to add more details soon... You can find other works on my deviantart page http://zpaolo.deviantart.com Paolo
  8. After a long break from my last Macross/Mecha kit building (as well as my hobby life), Somehow I managed to come back to it! I've always wanted to make this custom build, but I had a couple of reasons I didn't start until now. The biggest reason was my fear of paint wearing and chipping on transforming kit, but I might have found some solution - which is not fully tested yet. Anyways, the below image is my project plan. Basically, my goal with this project is to make it like Hasegawa 1/48 or Club-M resin kit - while keeping the ability to transform between 3 modes add details where it's safe add lights where it's possible and make sense. use metal where it makes sense for texture or it need strength The base kit will be either VF-1J or VF-1S that I bought from HLJ during 'Panic buying frenzy' I haven't decided which one it will be yet. It could be My favorite first TV Hikaru VF-1J - but cockpit design is not as cool as movie ones, and doesn't go with cool launch arm (that I'm planning to build later..) Movie Focker VF-1S Super Valkyrie - All good except that I'm not a big fan of S head design Movie Hikaru VF-1S Strike - it's the final battle model - All good except that I'm not a big fan of S head design I'll decide as I go.. By the way, I've been buying some supplies and parts for this mod for a while now. Below is a some part of it So.. according to my plan, I'll be doing some major work on the wings, chest block, backpack(?) and cockpit area. So I've made silicon mold to start copying those parts. My workflow will be 'recast - cutout/rework - recast those parts'..etc Also I found a cool mechanical hand parts that I can use. Size is between 2 hand types that comes with Yamato 1/60. Design is a little different, so I need to work on that. That's it for now, but I started it at last!! I can only work on this over the weekend nights, so it will be very slow process..
  9. Macross doesn't shy away from presenting viewers with some heavy issues. This AMV illustrates the troubled relationship between Kyle & Minmay. Not everyone survives the pitfalls of the celebrity spotlight, it can be very unforgiving. https://vimeo.com/63944523

  13. So, my friend and I went to a con dressed as Shin and Roy. I noticed that there aren't any other Zero cosplays out there I could find, so we were proud to make what we believe to be the first ones. There are OBVIOUS flaws we may fix if our budgets increase. We are doing the same cosplays at Tekkoshocon in two weeks.
  14. Share 'em! (I feel like laughing).
  15. We'll be presenting our Macross: Mythology & Physics panel at Tekkoshocon X-2 in Pittsburgh this April. The schedule has not been released but it will likely be on Sunday. We will discuss Macross/Robotech connections to ancient & pop mythology and toss in a healthy dose of physics from quarks to m-theory. We're hoping to welcome a guest appearance from Sheryl & Ranka cosplayers for a live performance, it depends on when we get scheduled. http://www.tekkoshocon.com/
  16. We just received word that our Macross/Robotech panel was accepted for Zenkaikon 2013 in Lancaster, PA. We are currently scheduled for Sunday the 24th at 2PM. We will delve into some ancient & pop mythologies and dabble in some 21st century physics. Robotech voice actor Richard Epcar will be a guest at Zenkaikon this year. www.zenkaikon.com
  17. This is based on a tow tractor support vehicle that came out in the first episode of SDF Macross. The tow bar connects to a VF-1 Tow hook but I've also included another hook to secure it. It actually works without it. It comes with a driver. Thanks for looking! Comments welcome.
  18. We will be presenting our new 2013 Macross/Robotech panel at Setsucon in State College, PA. Join us as we explore the heroes, myths and legends. We'll mix history with pop culture and throw in some relativity, quantum theory and M-theory for fun. Setsucon 2013 January 26-27 The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel State College, PA www.setsucon.com
  19. I started posting my work in progress here in 2011 but I can't even find it any more... I'm going to bring it Macross World Con and hopefully get it signed! I finally finished it after 2 years of on and off work: Follow the link to a bunch of pictures... http://funakatown.co...d-minmay-guard/ At the bottom of that page is a link to the full WIP.

Hello all! As I promised, I hereby start my wip thread for the YF-21. There is not much done yet, but the general shape is finished (no arms and legs), I0ll start with some details by sections and I'll then focus on legs and arms. Hope this doesn't take as long to finish as my vf-1 Cheers!
