  1. Whoa, been away from the toy section too long for this to spring up on me... Just out of sheer curiosity, we have 3D modelling gurus on the boards... and we have CAD wireframes. How hard would it be to use the reference material available and whip up something decent?
  2. Personally, I think the F/SN anime could have been set up to go more in line with the UBW ending. Although the Fate ending is a tad more coherent, the UBW ending makes for more interesting storytelling, while not being entirely contradictory to the point of impossible to meld the two. The way the anime portrays it, Saber is the main point of the story, which is nice, but doesn't explain the whol Grail War, and doesn't explain the crapload of not-so-subtle plot hints thrown into the anime (Shiro <-> Archer). UBW would have made more sense to explain why Archer was the way he was. Maybe if they had taken two seasons instead of rushing for one.... There's also the slight deviation from the already impressive game art. The Shir/Saber and Berserker fight comes to mind...
  3. Whoa... is that what she naturally sounds like? Sounds almost unreal...
  4. Depending on the equipment used, flourescent lighting isn't that great, gives a pale cast over everything, so a flash would give a better flesh tone. Since they're using a flash, then having a reflector would even out the background too. You guys are making me buy the books, grr... it'll sit well between my LOTGH and Gunam Sentinal novels, lol. I like how the show consciously rips off a lot of sci-fi anime, really had a great laugh with the big blur and "Launch the Gun***!!!", lol.
  5. Be forewarned that HD Loader doesn't work for Macross... actually, it hasn't worked for a lot of new games I've been getting... Macross, SRW@3...
  6. whoa, Yuusha DaGarn! I remember being crazy about that show as a kid! Somehow it doesn't feel complete without Wataru and Madoh oh Granzort... then again, I guess it depends on what your definition of a Super Robot show is. It seems that the compilation is TV series only, none of the Gundam OVAs made it...
  7. lol, it's very hard to improve upon perfection.. the Main Theme has been very popular and well recognized for the past few decades for a very good reason, and if it ain't broke...
  8. I always found the fifth part of the series to be the most intense, among those Sticky Fingers (the zipper dude), Purple Haze (releases viruses), and Aero Smith (model airplanes FTW! lol) being my favourite battles. Waching Sticky Fingers work is really something, a guy who has nothing to lose going over the edge to accomplish his mission. Haven't read any of the manga since Part 5 ended though, for some reason Part 5 just left me drained and satisfied... like.. cigarette in the bed satisfied, lol
  9. whoa... finally got around to downloading it, and all I can say is: <neo>whoa...</neo> A few points of interest: 1) Time slows down in fights... is this a protective measure? I've seen other boards chalk it up as fancy bullet time, but even in bullet time everything slows down. This is different, only the human world stops. 2) The third OVA really tied up the into the first OVA really well... but I don't get what makes Otoha so special... granted the Karas we see in the opening is KO'd barely five minutes into the show, but then again, Otoha hasn't fought against Ekou yet... 3) Lots of little details woven in here and there... took a LONG while for me to notice the rings certain individuals were wearing, lol. 4) Any idea when the fourth is coming out? The third DVD release was waaaay back in November for Japan, and not a peep since then... 5) Has any other group picked this up? I've only see the Ani-Kraze and Nyanko releases.... Nyanko is waaaay off, and I don't like how Ani-Kraze also pastes their subtitles over the kanji explosions...
  10. hmm.. wonder how long before somebody goes all cease-and-desist on their ass... other than that, it looks like a great game!
  11. Mozilla on Win2k on one, Mozilla on Ubuntu on another, Mozilla on WinXP for a third.. hmm.. I sense a pattern here...
  12. whoa... can we just go with the generic "OMFGWTFBBQPWNZ!!!" ? lol.. j/k. they look great! Somehow it feels like release is imminent...
  13. Weapon load effects would be nice, except since most planes almost never run out of missiles/bombs/whatever, well... unless you fired off everything in a pretty big hurry, you'll be stuck with the same handling characteristics throughout the game, and the way AC missions are structured, it would suck if you only had your cannon when those aces pop up late mission :-p I never really figured out altitude effects weren't in the game (except for the stalling at extreme altitudes)... was always waiting for the F-4 to start handling better when I took the battles higher, lol
  14. I'll go with Sundown here, and add in a cultural element: MGS is, among all things, a Japanese game made by a Japanese production team. The differences in opinion on what constitutes an "ideal hero" is VASTLY different between the two worlds. Raiden was very well received in the Asian countries.
  15. As usual, non-Japanese gamers got shafted and english version of MGS2 shipped without a Japanese audio track. Somehow certain companies adamantly refuse to include Japanese audio tracks in their games (Square, I'm looking at you!!) for whatever reasons, despite a lot of fans clamoring for the option of Japanese audio. I agree, Raiden would have been a vastly different character if the voice had been done in a different way.
  16. The new Raiden is trying too hard to be Gray Fox... he almost doesn't seem human. There are really only three threads to be tied up that really matter: Olga's baby (why Raiden is still around), Liquid (why Solid Snake is still around), and the Wiseman's committee (why both of them are still around). It would be nice if Kojima could really end the series with this one, since all the baggage accumulated from the past three games has really started to get noticeable. Finish it all off, kill Snake off if necessary, and start something new.
  17. A lot of people seem to equate low radar observability with *OMFGInvisible!!!*. Total invisibility is a BAD thing, since all you need to do is look at there there's a big blank "nothing" on the radar to find what you want to find. The F-117 has a small radar signature, small, but still there. What happened in Kosovo is more likely thus: Serbs know where to look (non-varying flight plans over the past few missions, heck, I'll even take non-varying flight speed and altitude), locks onto the small radar signature flying at a constant speed, constant altitude, and constant direction, WHILE the bay doors are open, keep the radar pointed at the greatly diminished contact after the doors close, making educated guesses as needed (remember, constant "variables", hah, what an oxymoron), fire missile, evade and start varying altitude/speed/heading (which the F-117 was never supposed to do anyway), make mistake of diving below the clouds, poof. Heck, I'm sure if the Serbs had WWII era 88s they would have shot the F-117 down on the first salvo instead of having it evade (aim the 88 at the approximate heading, set shell to detonate at altitude = F-117 flying straight into a shitload of shrapnel). Personally, I think the ultimate for all our bombing needs = B-52s flying high and out of reach loaded with PGMs, dropping poo as needed. Massive payload, massive loitering time, what's not to like?
  18. US aircraft technology is no the only thing to stagnate, for a very good reason: we no longer have a war to fight. I'm not talking about this war on terror crap, I'm talking about a full blown conflict between two sovereign nations. This isn't warmonger talk, since I'm sure every anthropologist can attest that conflict is what drives innovation. For the US, there remains only one viable military superpower threat which unfortunately also buys so much of our national debt that going to war is no longer an option. The Cold War scenario of having to face off numerically superior forces is still viable, and this time the opponent will be almost every bit as technologically advanced as the US is. The problem lies in whether or not war is likely, and what kind of war; the kind that involves B-52s, Iowas, and M-1s is viewed as less likely to happen. To those who believe the US is kick-ass in military might, try to remember that the world's largest standing army is sitting on the other side of the Pacific, rapidly equipping itself for the 21st century, has much more will to fight, and is not spread thing engaging enemies on multiple fronts. Back to aircraft. Multirole/multiservice aircraft are really just a logistics pipe dream. Every aircraft that was designed from the outset to be multirole and multiservice seems to have failed miserablly. Current designers do not seem to be looking at why successful aircraft are successful. The A-10 was designed to be slow and close to the ground, taking fire and giving close air support. The F-14, along with the Phoenix, was designed to be a long range interceptor. The F-16, the F-15, the U-2, the SR-71, ad nauseaum. All designed to fit in very limited mission parameters. It's almost only by accident that you have all these air superiority fighters and interceptors dropping bombs.
  19. I really don't get why most people have an infatuation with Solid Snake. Raiden was just fine as the main character in MGS2, somebody who could actually flip gracefully through the air instead of having to clamber over railings. Snake is cool, I agree, but the man is getting old, and we're really seeing it here. Forgot where I saw this, but someone once said "for crying out loud, we'll be playing a Snake trying to shakily aim an M9 while pushing around a walker at the same time!" For all of Raiden's new coolness in the preview, I'm sure we WILL be playing a Snake that can barely hold an M9 up... Kojima's revenge on all the wailing fanboys in MGS2, lol.
  20. Unfortunately the idea of "economies of scale" seem to fly in the very face of common sense when it comes to politicians and libertarians start screaming "massive military spending!!!" (note: it's a joke, albeit a bad one.). Like somebody already said, the B-2 was already hit with this problem. I remember hearing this argument during the C-17 production run too. Producing them in batches would be a good idea, unfortunately knowing how things work in our funky gov'ment, I think what will happen is: massive (or minor, lol) single production run, some produced for spares, then the jigs get destroyed to prevent further production, and we spend mega bucks again trying to patch up the shortfall of the underproduced F-22.
  21. From what I gather, the basic idea is still the same, Kenshiro still hits certain points of the opponent's body to trigger an uncontrolled release of energy. The original series were also bloody in their own way, just that the new series is probably cranked up for newer generations for whom blood is not that big of a shock factor.
  22. Still working through my import, and so far I'm liking it. FFXII really gives off Vagrant Story and FFT vibes, little hints everywhere that reminds you which team was in charge of production, from the costume designs to the way some phrases and poems are worded in the game. Character designs aside, so far nobody has exhibited the angst that seemed so prevalent in VII, VIII, and X, which is a good thing IMHO. For those complaining about character designs, just remember that this was designed by a Japanese game company, geared towards Japanese tastes, and unfortunately for the Western audience, that means characters that might not be so pleasing to the eye.
  23. For some reason this particular playthrough of 15 is killing me... I've already lost count of the number of times I've cleared the area around the rescue choppers (thank goodness for QMAAs, hehe), take a breather for a sec, and just as the next wave shows up, the chopper goes down... am I up against bogeys equipped with XLAAs? Ach...
  24. My favourite would be the Warlock class ships from Babylon 5... big, clunky, but a very slim profile.
  25. Well, considering that the Predators come to earth on a regular basis, it does fit into the spirit of the earth timeline...
