  1. There's also the metabolizer + drain (or steal?) wing trick... makes your private army neigh invincible.
  2. Playing it right now, just got a certain you-know-who and levelling to fight a certain somebody, but I'm stuck with no more willpower to go on For some reason realizing that I wouldn't be able to access Seraphic Gate until I did EVERYTHING all over again just killed it for me...
  3. Robert Rodriguez and crotch guns baby! Yeah! This is is gonna be so over the top A must see for me!
  4. I actually asked this on the old thread... I think the SR-71 doesn't count because it actually A/Bs everywhere it goes. Supercruise = no A/Bs, from what I gather. Might be wrong though...
  5. Actually, I think Trent Reznor could do a pretty good job. His work for id's games are actually pretty good.
  6. Visually I like it, although I see some of that "Troy" bunny jumping that I always detested... They should get Hans Zimmer on board to do the soundtrack. After "Gladiator", I think he can churn out something suitable.
  7. I'd say start with Blender. It can do most things Maya can, some things that Maya can't, and it's free.
  8. Interestingly, it was Zimmer's score that got me onto The Thin Red Line in the first place, when it was used for the Pearl Harbor teaser, "Journey to the Line" I think is the track. I actually liked the Thin Red Line with all its focus on the imagery. Given how Saving Ryan's Privates and Band of Brothers were more character studies with lots of big boom, it's a rather welcome change.
  9. Limiter Release = Unlimited Ammo
  10. I think the main reason is that we actually, unambiguously won in WWII, and on the "righteous" side too. Granted there's a whole slew of Vietnam films, but I think given the current atmosphere it might not be what the audience wants to see. There's the American Revolution, but somehow that doesn't seem to capture the public's imagination... The Brits torched DC in the War of 1812. We barely hung on in the Korean War. Not sure about the Spanish American War... it does seem righteous enough, what with fighting for Cuban independence and all that... I think WWI might be interesting to film, less action, more concentration on character development, much like All Quiet on the Western Front... except we already have All Quiet on the Western Front Maybe something set in the opening months of the war, a la Guns of August... except there would be no Americans involved.
  11. Personally, I like the gerwalk and battroid modes more than DYRL. For fighter mode though, DYRL wins hands down.
  12. Any chance of 1280x1024 versions of those?
  13. Except in WWI one tactic was using massed destroyers to rush dreadnaughts and launch torps... lots of them... happened at Jutland I think.
  14. I played for a few months and loved it while I did. Towards the end my guild got swallowed up by a much larger one that only wanted "hardcore" gamers that would be able to level and tackle dungeons every day... isn't all that great when the new guild recruiter looks at you and says "Sorry, we're looking for serious players only." Terminated credit card payment just before the great Druid makeover, lvl 29 feral Druid.
  15. AC maps need something as a reference point if they want to protray the mechs as large and lumbering. Some real life city fighting a-la Mechwarrior would be nice. I've only played up until Nexus, and while the limited amount of street fighting was a nice change from the endless corridors, the sense of scale was somehow always messed up. Speaking of corridors... From really needs to ween themselves off corridors... while I can understand the technical reasons behind it, still... The ability to command your own little squad would also be nice, instead of always making it seem like it was you against the entire world...
  16. They need to base the CG design off this: (Hotlinked shamelessly from Studio Tron's site)
  17. This actually happened for a year in college. Two otakus and two jock-kus stuck into the same dorm by random draw. The jock-kus got hooked into Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Star Craft after getting whupped, and the otakus were dragged along for daily exercise after the jock-kus started getting good at MvC2 and SC. Tempers flared and soothed, bonds were formed, and two people found lov... wait, wrong program, lol. Seriously though, it was sorta satisfying seeing jock-kus being lectured on the finer points of Hajime no Ippo or Slam Dunk.
  18. Just outta curiosity, where did the old carrier names come from? I know battleships were named after states (New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin), how about carriers? Personally, I find "Enterprise", "Intrepid", "Essex" and all that to be more fitting.
  19. I think the email response originaltrilogy.com got from Lucasfilm said that since the OOT wasn't the "definitive version" Mr. Lucas has in mind, they couldn't (or wouldn't) spend more resources on it. Guess that's the end of that. I'll save my money for the Ultimate Blade Runner set coming out...
  20. While you're at it, might as well fiddle with the target lock settings to something you find more useful, some modes can be a pain...
  21. Actually, Otaku is a derogatory term primarily in Japan. Among the anime population I've met in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China, the term Oktau is just another noun to describe anime lovers. I think Miyazaki for Japan would be what Columbine is for the US. As Otakus might now be considered as potential socialpaths, "nerds" in the states are likewise considered on the same basis. The medium in and of itself (be it Macross or Doom) should be irrelevant to the discussion. This is unfortunately not the case... Just keep in mind that in traditional Japanese useage, Otaku still refers to an honorific second person. So for its time, Macross was not in the wrong to use it. It's funny how times have changed, to think, "gay" and "fag" once stood for entirely different things!
  22. Don't have the game with me, but I know it's hidden away somewhere in the system settings, maybe somebody else who has access to it can fill you in. The other (non-ZOE) way is much better, you hold down L1 and the four main buttons are switched over to secondary. The reason the ZOE method doesn't work here is because the game doesn't pause when you hold down L1, making the switch one hell of a rush. Using the alternate method, I can fire away on the Valk's gunpod, head lasers, and missiles without slowing down, which is where the Valk shines in relation to the other mechs in the games, IMHO. The head lasers on the Valk are much more useful than the backup weapons of, say, Gundams (can't hit anything with those head cannons). Then again, with the Valk, it's all about long distance combat, while Gundams swing blindly with their sabers, lol
  23. Actually, is it not possible the reason for the name "Gun Destroyer" be the same as the "Guided Missile Destroyer"? Guided Missile Destroyer (DGG) = Destroyer with missiles Gun Destroyer = Destroyer with REALLY BIG gun Count in the destroyer's jack-of-all-trades role in the modern navy, and I think that sums up the Macross pretty well.
  24. Well, somebody already pointed out Cho Jikuu Yousai, but the submarine one lept out at me, so: Sensuikan = 潜水艦 (submerge water ship) Choujikuuyousai = 超時空è¦å¡ž (super dimensional fortress) Also: kan = 艦 (ship) senkan = 戦艦 (war ship) hence: houkan = ç ²è‰¦ (which does indeed mean gun ship)
  25. Get it, it's a nice enough game, and the Vf-1 handles like a beauty... except for fighter mode. I almost never touched fighter mode, gerwalk is just so much more useful. I can fly down the tunnels in Valley of Kings in AC: Zero, can't figure out why I can't do the same in this game.
