  1. Remember, Donitz accomplished all this with a little more than 20 boats at sea at any given time, quite an accomplishment for such a small fleet.
  2. On Pearl Harbor: One discussion I've heard was based on the futility of Pearl Harbor... main argument here being that on the lonng run the US with its industrial capacity simply could not be stopped. The "devastation" at Pearl Harbor also provided the USN with an excellent opportunity to update its fleet in one sweep. If the fleet as it was pre-Pearl were to face the IJN a few months later and without the galvanization of Pearl, the outcome of the war might have been different, if not prolonged. On Jutland: The influence of Jutland I think is very subtle and very far reaching. As Noyhauser said, the attempt of the German High Seas Fleet to break out carried the hope of the German High Command to take the war away from the continent and break the economic blockade. Jutland convinced Germany that it could not compete as a naval power against Britain. This extends into the second world war, in which the Atlantic battle seems suspiciously lacking in terms of large scale German surface action (compared to the Pacific...), save the rather exciting sinking of the Bismark.
  3. whoa... does the man have no bounds? What's the story about anyway? :-p
  4. However, wasn't Jutland was one of the main reasons why Germany decided to go with submarine warfare, after seeing how Jutland was fought basically fought to a stalemate? Consider: if Scheer had been successful in overwhelming the Grand Fleet, then U-9's sinkings would have merely been an interesting sidenote on the utility of U-boats, and everybody would still be convinced that old battlewagons were the way to go. (Then again, everybody still thought they were the way to go, witness the Yamato, Bismark, Iowa...)
  5. Currently reading up on the Battle of Juland, Jellicoe vs. Scheer and von Hipper, one of the most influential naval engagements of the Great War, although for some reason the book I read made everybody in the battle look like bumbling fools...
  6. Another one for Belldandy. None of that anime-girl angst that drives you crazy, wonderful insights on life, wonderful cook... perfect, really.
  7. They're from Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, for PS2, Japanese region only. SRW basically being a series of games that throw together all sorts of different robot series into one big turn based strategy game. Gundam, Macross, GaoGaiGar, Mazinger, Getter Robo, etc.. all make regular appearances. If you can find it at your favourite import store, give it a try, highly recommended.
  8. That's funny, most posts I see on the oblivion boards are asking for mods to shrink the UI down from its "fisher price" sizing... For those who can't stand the level scaling, there are quite a few promising mods that are aggressively fixing the problem: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=307791 Right now I'm using the one by Iyachtu, which seems to be the least drastic of mods.
  9. Some how my mind was filled with images of angels and warm light with "Ode to Joy" playing in the background... so does this mean we'll see the release of DYRL-Em Forever sometime this year?
  10. God Gundam had better have an awesome shinging finger pose, cause that sailor moon image is seared into my retinals right now... ahhhhh!!!
  11. Trains was the first GGG. Dolphins is GGGG, Genesic Gao Gai Gar, the final form in the OVA. The glove/hammer combo is Goldion Hammer, the "I win" kill move that GGG uses. But after seeing the OVA, what I REALLY wanna see is a Goldion Crusher, muahahaha If this one could do a real Hell and Heaven with the hands clasped, I just might get it... till then, I'm still waiting for a cheap Max Factory to pop up, lol. So far the Max Factory one is the best rendition, albeit non-transformable and supposedly very fragile for a die-cast toy...
  12. hmm... doesn't look as if Genesic Hell and Heaven is possible... blah... so far the Max Factory non-transformable one seems to be the only GGGG that's able to pull it off... so expensive though, sigh...
  13. the OVA version of El Hazard was the very first anime I ever watched... I'd recommend it. LoGH is a must. dunno about the rest.
  14. heh, I got a MIB copy a few years back, played a few, then RL took over.... hmm.. maybe I outta break it out again... Seriously though, I just might need to get a PSP for this and the new SRW game...
  15. Yeah, we usually bring it out of drug induced coma once a month for interrogation and nasty experiments...
  16. A7 did a review a while ago... might wanna dig that up
  17. Hollywood is suffering from horriblly miscast characters... consider the new Geisha movie out soon... whether or not Michelle Yeoh or Zhang Zhiyi look anywhere near Japanese aside, anybody else find it ironic that they're casting Chinese actors in a role that's the epitome of Japanese culture?
  18. Ridiculously overpowered crafted items help a LOT... probably contributed more to my eventual victory than my levels It's a fun game though... loved spamming dimension door
  19. My vote goes to AVG. Been using it for two years now and it's blocked two or three suspicious files. AVG is light, fast at scanning, and FREE. By default it scans at 8 AM every day (I think), and updates itself shortly after.
  20. Well, looks like we're gonna get some more info come December...
  21. Well... the whole idea is... nice... but... The origins of Dracula and the Belmonts have already been dealt with in Lament of the Innocence... and quite frankly, I can't see Anderson doing the whole gothic atmosphere that would be needed to pull it off.
  22. I take what I said back... it was... wierd......
  23. Well, we just went through a cosplay episode, how much wierder can it get?
  24. It won't work. Easier to get swapmagic and a fliptop...
  25. ahem... there's more on that page, I see the head of the Zero cut off at the bottom... come on! more scans! larger images!
