  1. A port is when a game is recoded so it specifically runs on a new machine in the same way as any other game or app on that machine. We know AC5 on PS4 is a port because it does things that the PS2 version didn’t do (according to that 8ve read) xbox back-compatibility means that it’s the same code that ran on the 360, and the Xbox one pretends it’s a 360 to run using an emulator. The game runs “inside” the emulator. So- AC6 on Xbox one is exactly the same code as it was on 360 as far as I can tell. The 360 emulator in Xbox one isn’t perfectly plug and play- it needs to be specifically configured for each game, which is why you can’t just put a 360 disc in the bone and go. this is the first time I’ve really regretted not having a PS4 as I’d love to replay AC5 but I’ll have to dig out my PS2 instead
  2. Gripen-plus-LACM is definitely a great setup. LACMs have great standoff range and a big splash effect, which really helps missions where you're bith heavily dogfighting and doing CAS because you don;t have to spend too long away from the dogflight to blow up a cluster of tanks or whatnot. Typhoon-plus-8AGM should be good but even with upgraded special missile storage you'll shoot them all off in 4 salvoes.
  3. Considering that the d-pad doesn’t get used for anything as there’s no wingman commands, it would have been nice to have at least one button used for “target mission objective”. The mission with the arsenal bird was a nightmare trying to lock on to the right bit.
  4. Nicknames are used when creating aircraft builds for multiplayer (known as “sets”). Got as far as mission 12 today, which is pretty epic and nerve-wracking. Gripes seems to be my favoured mount st the moment. Typhoon was a bit disappointing.
  5. I'd agree with that. the opening mission is a bit low-key, compared to the enormous extravaganza that was the first mission of AC6. AC6's missions could really be thought of each as 3 missions mashed together going on next to each other on a huge map - this is more back to the scale of the PS2 games as you say. I've played up to mission 5 or 6. other non-spoilery thoughts: The tech tree is really awkward to navigate. It's very easy to get onto a different branch of the one you're looking at. (Decided to do the euro tree that starts with the Mirage so I can get the Typhoon. got as far as Gripen.) Game still does the annoying thing of making you get through a cutscene and the next breifing before you can get to the tech tree to spend your MRP on shiny new planes and stuff. Multiplayer is fun, but seems random (not many people on last night). pays decent MRP. I've been playing games in this series for 14 years and I still can;t tell which country and continent is which. Lack of a native photo mode is a shame. Overall though, really good.
  6. Us lucky Europeans get it on Friday. (Possibly Thursday if my supplier manages their usual "day early" delivery)
  7. Hugely looking forward to this. Had to come back here and post as it was this forum that kicked off my love of AC in the first place back in the heady days of AC5...
  8. and in the 50s/60s. they'd be "Sabrinas", like the cannon bulges on Hunters.
  9. That may be more problematic as Martini is an alcohol brand. I think that, should MP Jazz happen, it's more likely to be the stripes and "meister" decals.
  10. Not really- in reality the "group 5" version of the Stratos only ever appeared in the Marlboro and Alitalia liveries. The Rally version of the car, which was a fairly different shape (shorter, narrower, less extreme aero) competed in more varied colours, but not that many. Of course, none of those liveries turned up in Transformers. The marlboor one was only ever a diaclone and not a TF. Once the final pics hit, I'll be pre-ordering, assuming its not a disaster. I got MP smokescreen for Christmas and am really impressed.
  11. I'd like that picture more if they weren't flying to the scrapyard.
  12. Essentially, the tail section, including tail rotor of a chopper around the size of a blackhawk, but not one known about in the public domain was found and photographed outside the Bin Laden compound. The rest of the chopper was destroyed by the SEAL team in question after what's thought to be a mechanical failure. photo here: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2011/05/secret-helicopter-revealed-in.html Beyond that, it's just a load of speculation and guesswork.
  13. You know I find slightly odd about those mirages? They're absolutely pristine. they look like they've just come out of the factory, from the shiny state of the landing gear. and the perfect paintjob. I've seen airshow aircraft looking more weathered....
  14. Not sure. I think it was new for the farnborough show. I was at the cosford show last month and it was a clean demo. if you think about it, it makes a lot more sense for the farnborough demo to have weapons loaded as it's a sales pitch, not a crowd pleaser like a normal show.
