Ah, guess progress marches on. It's not an issue with the rendering or the theme, it's just that the mobile version pares down the links and options displayed on the page, including a few I tend to use a lot. Probably an issue to take up with the forum software authors then. My main issue was that I couldn't find a shortcut back to the forum top page, but the title banner at the top seems to work now, so it may have just been a phone glitch for me earlier.

I apoligize for the necro of sorts, but I have the same problem in reverse due to the forums software update. Is there any way to manually select the full page layout on my phone? I really would rather see the entire normal page on my mobile phone, because so many shortcuts get nixed with the mobile version.

Wait, huh? What scale? I've got a few of the Bandai kits, and they're great, but a finished display would be nice too, would love to have one with folding wings in 1/60 or even 1/48.

So, which is better overall? Arcadia YF-19 or Bandai VF-19 Advance
Chronocidal replied to takatoys's topic in Toys
Really, Jenius' review on this couldn't say it better. If you can swing both? Get both. They each have a distinct look and feel to them, and I love them both for assorted reasons. The Arcadia nails the look of the animation in Macross Plus in all modes, is easy to transform, and just looks impressive on the shelf, especially with all the included weaponry. Downside is that the wing mechanism is just kinda lousy. The Bandai one winds up looking more like a Hasegawa kit all around, has the most streamlined fighter mode yet, and is nearly overloaded on tampo, but is also a bit overcomplicated for its own good, and difficult to transform at times. Also, Bandai did everyone a disservice by never releasing any weaponry for the built-in hardpoints... unless you feel like buying a weapons pack for the VF-171. They're both awesome toys to own. -
Yeah.. the closest thing that reminds me of is that GI Joe plane they had from the movie (I think it was called a "Night Raven" even) that made a point of calling out one of the features on the box: "ENGINE LIGHTS!" Because every airplane needs illuminated compressor blades. That paint looks terrible, and the lights are absolute nonsense. Like seriously, who do they hire to come up with this kind of schlock?
-
Generally speaking, no, they'll never show up except on places specifically carrying the online Bandai exclusives, which usually is restricted to NY and a couple other shops I'm not as familiar with. Transformation-wise though, the 31 feels closer to the Sv-51 to me than any of the other designs besides the 30, at least as far as general structure and fuselage folding. Similarly folded wings too, despite the different layout. Kind of makes me wonder what an updated Sv-51 with a turreted gunpod mount would look like in gerwalk. As far as the RMS missiles go though, zooming in as close as I can to the arm shields, it does look like they've got mounting points for them. They're just not included. I do think it's interesting that Delta went back to red-tipped missiles though.

There was... one(?) episode in the middle of the series where they used them? The one where they were dancing around and bouncing off asteroids while projecting Walkure concert images on them. For whatever reason, this set isn't including the projector/booster packs though. To be perfectly honest, I kinda don't care if we ever see those projector packs produced. For being what seemed the only actual time they made use of the entire "hot-swappable weapons pod" idea for the 31, it felt like the entire concept was wasted, and I would have much rather seen a more streamlined fuselage on the 31 than the gappy draggy mess of plates and boxes we wound up with between the engines. Of course, knowing Bandai, that's the only way we'll be able to acquire the RMS missiles they mounted in the final episode.. you know.. despite the fact that they weren't used together, and their single appearances were half a series apart.. But it seems to be against Bandai policy to ever include enough optional parts to let you actually decide how you want to display your valks.

Front looks a bit too narrow, but meh, yeah, that pearlized metallic is just fugly on it. Funny enough, the paint does make it look just like a scaled-up Henkei. Edit: Also, really, the center section of the main body just looks too long, leaving the front booms looking too short.

Think it might have something to do with all the interlocks going into the wingroots. I believe there's a tab on the back of the thigh that pegs into the underside of the wingroot, so if your wingroot isn't properly aligned, the thigh isn't going to want to fold back up. (That might be only on the other VF-19 variants though don't remember for sure.) Also, there are tabs on the torso structure to hold the legs in place, so make sure you aren't catching on one of them. Rotating the legs outward slightly like Jenius mentioned will help avoid that. The most annoying part for me about the YF-19 transformation though was always getting the wingroots locked back in. The dumb interlock keeping them from rotating unless you pull them out made the entire mechanism a huge step backwards from the Yamato VF-19s.
-
What that really needs is a 1/6 scale battroid head to stick on the back, and function as a projector.
-
Hope those leg pieces stay on better than they look like they will. I'm not a huge fan of these packs, but I'm going to pick up a set just so I don't have to pay double further down the road if I decide I like them. Although... where's the RMS mounts from the last episode? Watch Bandai release the projector pack later on as another exclusive and throw those missiles in with it.

Yep, guess I should apologize for the derailing, but that would be a better place for it. Back on topic, I'm just really looking forward to another valk that's not your typical F-14-ish layout, and really loving that Kawamori actually attempted something based on a single-engine design. Really hoping we see more of that F-104-derived one as well in the future.

Not to drag the conversation too far off again, but I believe the YF-23 partly suffered from being "further behind" in development, without a functional weapons bay, and significantly higher production costs. It was at the bleeding edge of low signature, high speed performance, with possibly one of the lowest drag designs in history, but the complex curvature of the airframe made it a lot more difficult to manufacture. In the end, the "further along" YF-22 won out, only to be sent through a near complete redesign that might have wound up even costing more in the long run. Far as the X-32 went.. I think the production design was supposed to ditch the delta wing for a more traditional planform, at least with certain models. Being a product of the times though, the running nickname for it was "Monica." Honestly, the only hope that thing had for a publicly acceptable name was "Guppy."
-
Funny thing about that... both the production F-22 and F-35 look pretty much nothing like the prototypes either. Good thing, in the F-22's case, it went from a stubby boxy thing, to actually looking quite sleek, I think. Anyway, glad these are showing up for preorders again!

Just curious, but was the HUD really pink? Seems really odd that it's not green, but I don't honestly remember the animation.
-
One thought just occurred to me..I haven't kept up with Macross: The First, could they be pulling certain design cues from there? In any case, I'm sure in this era of 3D printed everything, it's relatively easy to fix any weapons shortcomings. What I really need are about half a dozen sets of super packs in TV markings.
-
In Max and Millia's case, I think you're right, the only time we saw their 1Js loaded with regular missiles was that particular episode. The colors don't look terribly off though, and it's not like real aircraft get color matched weapons. Thing is though, Bandai clearly doesn't really care what was or wasn't seen in the series, because they packed in the typical DYRL style box launchers, despite them never being used in the series, let alone on any 1J. And personally, I'd swap those boxes for the standard missile racks in an instant. They look ok with super packs, but they're an eyesore on a normal fighter in atmosphere.

Considering Arad's markings were red and green, should've announced him as a Christmas pre-order.

Hopefully they'll actually give some way to get more of those later, maybe with a super/strike pack set. It's why I ordered a couple extra CFs that'll stay in battroid so I have the missiles freed up. I'm really just sick of Bandai's add-on shenanigans though.
-
I mean, it wouldn't be anything new for them to do... *Stares at piles of broken CF-171 parts* I'm not terribly worried about this design, but between the difficulty (or flat-out impossibility) of finding replacement parts when things break, and past experience with Bandai "engineering," my standard operating procedure is to buy two of everything in the hope that even if something fails catastrophically on both of them, I might have enough good parts to cobble together one completely functional valk.

Actually, I bet it's an orthographic (non perspective) CAD render. Everything will look off from those, because they aren't foreshortened. Doesn't mean it's right, but it might not be quite as wrong as it looks.
-
Quick question, were there two different reaper emblems used at various points in the series? I remember one looking like an actual skull, but another was actually a valkyrie's head instead.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
From what I've gathered, it's kind of the opposite formula to something like XIII, where the world didn't open up until near the end. Apparently the start of the game is wide open, and allows for a ton of exploration of the far corners of the world, but narrows down significantly as the plot begins to dictate events and destinations.- 6893 replies

I'm really waiting for them to release pack sets so I can load up my CFs, but I might do the same mix and match on both M&Ms.. The new colors don't look bad, but the classic colors just look more fitting somehow.

I actually just kind of tugged on it, the pegs aren't that long, and it just popped off after pulling a bit at an angle. Be careful with it though, I know I've heard of some people having that piece missing, and I don't recall whether it just popped loose in the box, or if the loops that hold it in may have broken.
