I thought Netflix already has had all of Star Trek for years now? Unless this is just a renewal of their existing license, and they decided to shell out more for the new series, I don't get why that would even be related to this.

I've got two on order, so I think I'll leave my HLJ one in the warehouse until I can ship it with Messer's, assuming his releases soon enough so HLJ doesn't auto-ship my second Draken.

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
Chronocidal replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Granted, the name is just hearsay from a friend of mine who saw the art book, so a large grain of salt is probably called for. Depending on the timeframe of the movie, that could very well just be the name she was given by the doctor who cared for her, before actually picking her own name. I don't recall if that doctor's name is ever given in the source material. I dunno. It does seem really bonkers to go to such great lengths to look true to the original, and then make random changes like that, but I've reached a point where I really don't expect anyone or anything to make sense anymore.- 751 replies

Oh, sorry, should have clarified it here, since I didn't realize it wasn't mentioned. Apparently her actual name was released in an art book, or some promotional thing for the movie, and it's supposedly Mira Killian.- 751 replies

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017

I guess I mostly don't really care either way? I just feel like the people in charge are like.. "Phew.. we're past the casting issues.. now, what else can we do to simultaneously distance ourselves from the original, and piss off the fanbase?" Like.. I wish people would decide whether they want to make something for the fans, or something original. Pick one, it's not hard. Either do your best to stick to source material, or come up with something entirely your own. Time and time again, people keep getting this bright idea to try and make things appeal to a wider audience, and they fall flat on their face, because they don't do anything significant to draw in new fans, while simultaneously pissing off the established fanbase they think they can count on. I'd rather see something new and original than have someone's original plot trying to hitch a ride on an established story/universe that has to be twisted around to fit. Frankly though, I think the name change sucks. Cultural significance aside, you replaced someone who named themselves after a sword, with something that sounds like they could work in accounting. Maybe they're going to work the pseudonym into the movie at some point? I can only hope.- 751 replies

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
Chronocidal replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So, I was discussing this with some friends earlier, and I'm just incredibly baffled that they would rename her... First.. they're hit with the whole initial whitewashing claims, due to their casting choice for the Major... which in reality, wasn't an issue in the first place, because being entirely cybernetic, the Major could have been cast as anyone from Eugene Levy to Lucy Liu to James Earl Jones, and it could have fit in the canon, no matter how goofy it was. The name was never related to her race, it was a pseudonym picked to sound cool, and happened to be Japanese because she lived in Japan. Best cross-cultural comparison I heard from western cultural references was that she basically named herself "Jane Excalibur." So, now that everyone seemed to finally get over the casting issue, they went and pulled their heads even further up their own rectums, renaming her to some completely unrelated thing that has no cultural significance at all, and just giving credence to all of the originally nonsensical complaints... like seriously, wtf??- 751 replies

So, I finally got ahold of a set of 4 3x3 quarter domes recently, and will probably go about finally modding my UCS Imperial Shuttle the way I've always wanted. Mostly, replacing the wedge-shaped nose with a more subtle slope of layered plates, and modding the engine area to look like the original. (Not mine, but it's apparently a popular fix.) Just have to dig the shuttle out of storage, and figure out how to reshape that nose section...

I've been hoping for a PSO2 port since release, and it just keeps getting less and less likely by the minute. With all the Japan-only licensed material that gets stuffed into every single update, any exported version would be so gutted for content that the game would feel insanely empty. The game's file structure is a flat out disaster though. I don't want to see an export version unless SEGA discovers the magic of file archiving, because their garbage patcher makes every update a stupidly tedious nightmare (and it's why I don't bother with the game anymore).

Ah, that's good then, makes it an easy switch, so you don't have to mess with the folding plates that fit around the head.

Hasegawa 1/72 VF-19EF/A Isamu Special *March pre-order*

Now if they'd just upscale this to release it in 1/48th... I'm still waiting for a matching YF-21 though, they really need to get on that. I might wind up getting one of these, but I don't know if I'd build it in the SMS markings, or just use the fast packs for a loaded Macross Plus version. -
I'd love to get a reworked YF-30 with the tails from the VF-31.. those things bug the daylights out of me to the point that I want to replace them. Do like the weapons pod integration better on the 30 though. It just looks like it fits in better.

If you've got a bum one of each, you've got all the necessary parts to make both. Just probably need to swap the cockpits, and possibly the chest plates, if there were any significant changes to the heatshield on the VF-0D. Everything else is pretty much identical.

If they're being forced to make the most of the Zero line, then I want to be seeing all those remixes and repaints like mentioned above.

I never have worried that much about shipping speed, but I only ever use registered eco airmail from NY, since it tends to get to me nearly as fast as EMS, for much less. Still prefer to get Fedex, but only HLJ offers that at less than the cost of a kidney, I think

Something that size from Shapeways would be insanely expensive.. but I'd still love to see it done.

I sort of want to agree, but this is why I'm curious what changes they'll make. I only bit on the VF-0D because it was never done before, and grabbed a VF-0S since my old one wouldn't fit the reactive armor. The Sv-51 doesn't have those points in its favor, and while the VF-0s were redesigned to fit the armor, the 51 doesn't have that issue, so assuming they have the original CAD from the Yamato, there's very little reason to make any changes to the design proportions. Even if they replace a ton of the internal mechanisms, it's really not going to look any different, because the shape and detail of the original was fine. If they offer up some sort of new unique scheme, I'll likely be convinced to grab one, but given the massive size of these, and the upward trend of Arcadia's prices, I'm easily expecting these things to be far beyond what I want to pay for something I already have.

I'll be really interested to see what (if anything) they change about this release. It's not like the first version actually had any significant issues like the VF-0..

Yep, it was the prototype for his eventual 1/60 custom. There might have been a few small changes, but I think he just converted the Hasegawa paintscheme directly to his Yamato.

They're not actually ball joints, just slightly wobbly pivots, if I recall. It's been years, but I remember disassembling the entire forearms to get at those pivots, and never really got very far. In the end, I think I wound up settling for a few drips of thin CA superglue on the pivots, rotating the tails while I let the glue dry. This can definitely fog up the plastic somewhat though, typical for CA glue. I'll see if I can find my original post on what I did, and link it here, but I'm not sure if I took any photos or anything.

There are enough really rare Yamatos that I wouldn't mind seeing any number of things re-released, especially the VF-11s, VT-1/VE-1, VF-1D, or M&Ms. As much as I love the Sv-51 though, I'd put that in the same category as the VF-0. Sure, it's nice seeing the design refreshed, and maybe I'll buy one if it's a new color, but like the VF-0s, there was nothing really wrong with the originals. They're a little floppy, but nothing nearly as bad as the early structural problems with the VF-0. Sure they're outdated, but the thought of how much a new version of something that big would cost makes me think I'll stick to my originals. I'd much rather see something entirely new than a rehash of something I still own a bunch of.

Man, I would love to see a VF-17T sooo much.. I want the trainer version from Macross Plus though, so unless they decide to milk the mold, I'd need two Ray/Veffidas valks.
-
That's exactly what I mean though.. that one's not the model head, it's something else. It looks nothing like the one here. Is that some early prototype, or a custom someone made to make Messer's valk out of Hayate's before the official kit came out?

Is that a custom made head on the left? Because those look really nothing alike, and the eyes look painted on, instead of clear plastic.
