  1. That would get them a ton of sales I'd think, considering that's about the original Yamato target price. Depending on quality and availability, they might be worth a shot. At the very least, they'd be a nice companion to other 1/72 scale aircraft, which has always been a major sticking point for some folks with the 1/60 valks.
  2. I mean, that's been my going theory since the day I saw it. That pan around them on the island just made it way too conspicuous to ignore. See, there's one thing that strikes me really hard about the new movies, and new canon in general, for better or for worse. Despite unilaterally declaring the old EU as non-canon, that hasn't seemed to deter them in the slightest from picking and choosing bits and pieces that they liked, and reincorporating them. Whether that's because they really actually liked the EU, or just are creatively inept to the point that they couldn't think of something different, is up for grabs. My personal leaning is to the latter, given how much we've seen recycled from everything on every level. The other thing that struck me as interesting was that the timeline is pretty darn convenient. Not only did they distance themselves from the original trilogy enough to allow a new generation of characters to come into their prime, but they left themselves a lot of room for filling in the blanks, even to an excessive and detrimental level from a storytelling perspective, since we needed a ton of filler novels to explain half the movie. But the fun part? There's nothing really directly contradicting a good portion of the EU yet. They brought Thrawn back already. Who's to say that the overall plot of a lot of the EU material won't be directly adapted? Sure, they're going to change names, and a lot of the smaller details. They might not be Solo twins, but they might be siblings. And Kylo may have killed a renamed Mara Jade expy. They left enough room in the storyline that they could directly adapt a ton of EU material, with minimal changes.
  3. Ugh.. really hoping these dumb things aren't glued in place. I get that they're trying to improve on the little things, but these don't look like they match, and the screw covers on the YF-19 were some of the most painful things I ever had to remove to fix the wing joints.
  4. On the HMRs, the hardpoints are a bit bulky, so I can understand people wanting wings without them to a point. But at 1/60? There's really no excuse. The only thing the removable wings accomplished was giving them a way to make absolutely sure you had to buy matching armor packs for every individual 171, and that you couldn't use missiles on the standard releases. And they still haven't made any attempt to rectify that particular flipping off of their customers. Every new release that comes with hardpoints just pops another pair of giant middle fingers at their fanbase, as the only place to get anything to mount on them came in a limited accessory pack for a valk from the previous Macross series.
  5. I dunno, if we get Roid's Elvis valk, I think he'd make a nice partner for Keith.

The work begins.. Of course the white stripes aren't missing from the black.. they're painted over it... so I might do the same, and just paint a white pinstripe the entire length of the wing. I don't feel too bad about modifying this thing... in fact, I'm tempted to strip both wings.. one of them has a big curly hair stuck under the tampo.
  7. Sweet, gonna hold off as long as I can with this one, and see how many more things get released before my HLJ Mirage VF-31 runs out of warehouse time.
  8. That's entirely on Bandai for coming up with such a stupid design in the first place. Wings should have been hardpointed from the start, and permanently attached like the Yamato 17, and the entire thing would have been a non-issue. It's really just inexcusable.
  9. I mean that the quote you took was from a completely different thread, and it somehow wound up in this one.
  10. Honestly, the map nonsense was probably one of the weaker parts of TFA. Like.. ok fine, you hid your travel route, and no one knows where you went. That doesn't mean a chunk of every map in the galaxy just goes missing and no one knows what's there. The ham-fisted "Ooh look, the map fills in this giant empty space!" sequence had me just staring blankly. All they needed were coordinates.
  11. So that's an amusing forum glitch.. I'm guessing something got mixed up in the quote process?
  12. So, if the part of the wing pin that sheared off is the little mushroom cap that the wing snaps over, you don't even need it. All those do is snap the wing on more securely before plugging the larger pegs in. The wing rotates around the base of that shaft, so there's really no reason the little cap needs to exist.
  13. See, if the missiles in the 171 packs weren't butt ugly, I'd actually use them.
  14. They're taking their sweet time with Mirage's packs, along with the rest of the main characters. I mean, the cannon fodder Kairos got released before Chuck and Arad, so I have no idea what they're planning. I just want the rest of the super pack releases to come with the reaction missiles, and I want to see the green 262s even get mentioned.

Assuming these come with spare hardpointed wings like every other HMR, I might strip down one set, and make the wings look less.. well.. bleh. I want to remove the random spike in the middle and just extend the pinstripe all the way to the wingtip. Shouldn't be too hard to do, just need to scrape off the spike, and then mask around where I want the stripe to run, and sand the tampo off. I might also swap the canopies around a bit. That gold might look pretty nice on some CFs, and then I can use the blue ones from Hikaru 1Js on Messer.
  16. If they had included the reaction missiles with the super packs from the start, this would be a complete non-issue for me. But nooooo, that would have made too much sense. Instead, they tack the missiles onto a super-pack-less release, and give a giant middle finger to anyone who didn't buy that exclusive... It's like one of those "build a figure" sets.. you have to chase down multiple releases of the same thing in very slightly different configurations, just to give you the correct pieces to put together the version as seen in the last episode. Comparatively, the reaction missiles would be similar to other convention exclusive features listed above. But the only reason I want this is because of the missiles, and if they did a general release later without them, I probably wouldn't be interested anyway. The alternate scheme is a nice touch, but I'm not that much of a completionist just to grab that scheme on its own.
  17. That 1/72 valk looks kinda like a mashup of a Hasegawa kit with the Bandai transforming one, but it looks much better than the Bandai one. The lights are killing me though. One of these days, I hope someone has the inspiration to slap Tommy Yune upside the head with an IRST pod so he can finally see that SENSORS DO NOT EMIT LIGHT YOU DUNDERHEAD. The lights in the fast pack nozzles have the potential to look pretty nice though. I dunno, call me intrigued. If they're readily available, and less than a 1/60th, I might bite.
  18. Wouldn't be the first time. How many people bought Ozma's VF-25 hoping they'd have a chance in hell of ever getting his armor pack? Sorry if I sound salty about this, I really don't care as much about the Kai as I care about Bandai making such inexplicable decisions with their production lines. I get the idea of trying to promote attendance to events, but that's like rubbing salt in the wound for all the international customers that Bandai already does its best to ignore. I've got this picture of Bandai's marketing team standing around and throwing obstacle after obstacle in the path of people trying to buy their stuff. "Hmm...hurdles aren't doing it.. they made it past the moat.. maybe a flaming moat full of hurdles will do it."

I'd absolutely love to get a couple Gnerl pods, it's such an underrepresented design. Wouldn't be hard to give it functional landing gear in that scale either. Judging by the size of the cockpit, I'd think the overall size of the pod should be comparable to a Glaug, really.
  20. Probe and drogue is easier to implement, but also a bigger risk in a lot of ways. Get the wrong oscillation in the fuel line, and the basket will whip around pretty bad. Seen a few pictures of planes with shattered canopies from getting smacked around by baskets. Also, what can happen if the basket jumps too much, it'll snap off the valve "knuckle" at the end of the probe, potentially FOD-ing the aircraft, and effectively ending the mission, depending on where it happens. It's still a reliable system, just has a decent amount of associated risks that have to be prepared for.
  21. Heheh, I'm forcing myself to prioritize though, and I've had a "to sell" list building for a while of some of the extras I have laying around. I have been looking at possibly buying a house, so if that happens, I'm making plans for a display room and such. Right now, everything's crammed into a two bedroom duplex. Also doesn't help that my interest in LEGO collecting has been rekindled, and I'm finding all sorts of excuses to buy littler sets that contain pieces I want.
  22. I mean, it's kind of stupidly simple math.. Assuming the limited numbers they were planning to produce would have turned a profit, they're already past meeting the base costs of production. Any further sales should only increase that profit margin. I don't know where this whole exclusivity mentality is from, but it's toxic to the market in so many ways. These aren't Ferraris, or some multi-thousand dollar piece of celebrity contracted jewelry here. They're freakin' toy airplanes that turn into robots. Bandai needs to stop acting like owning them is some sort of status symbol. If they put the Kai release out on the normal web exclusive site, I'll absolutely buy one, maybe even two, but all this lottery BS is accomplishing is dragging their reputation through the mud, and pushing the raging fanbase to turn their website into a dumpster fire over their misjudgment of demand.
  23. Glad to see HLJ getting more orders for the PE Milia, I'd already put an order in for Max, and love the idea of a matched set. I'm not all that interested in the PE versions of the DYRL valks unless I can get a full squadron, but if they release a fast packed version of Hikaru's 1J, I'll grab that one too. I'd also already put in an order for the standard editions of both M&Ms though, so now the decision is whether to keep them (either for myself, or as an investment). I can definitely swing the purchase, I'm just running out of space for all the boxes.
  24. I'm assuming you mean LAX customs? They're just notoriously slow at times, and the postal service is getting worse and worse about updating tracking information. I've had stuff appear stuck at LAX for a week before with no updates, and had it show up at my door with no tracking update at all.
  25. Maybe we'll get lucky, and the saucer will warp itself into the Delta Quadrant. Would improve the look of the ship, I think.
