  1. (I want song cap please XD) Overall, liked some parts but the plot exposition is a bit too ... I dunno a little too early? I hope some of this a red herring otherwise they've killed some of the suspense for me.
  2. Sorry, don't want to be a bork and steal her proper pageview credit here so am putting in the link for an utterly fantastic Sheryl piece that someone put up today on Deviantart.com http://zuowen.deviantart.com/art/macross-f-sheryl-91969193
  3. Dang, you guys are killing me. *kicks torrent and wishes it to hurry up*
  4. Although we are not yet at a point we can look at a new episode, seeing the new blog entries helps reinforce what I like about Sheryl. I do like Ranka, but I still feel something of a "irrepressible" nature about her, in spite of how messed up her life was. I do understand (finally) the comparison to Kamina above. I'm not quite sure yet she has that much impact (but then again I just watched all of 1-8 of GL in the last two days) but she's a strong character, one that really tends to overwhelm Alto. I still keep getting the impression that Alto can't handle her yet though. But it's more of his issue rather than hers. A topic for another thread, though....
  5. Was that the only time he didn't hear what she had to say? I was wondering why Alto's hearing is so bad.... Or maybe his brain is just too busy thinking "I'm flying, lalallaa." (Cut your hair, Alto. I think it's clogging your ears. )
  6. Picard and Shishio KILL ME. This thread = now officially WIN times 1000.
  7. Unless they're like a lot of insect/hive type constructs, in which case, the males are all drones/peons.
  8. LOL. Well, at least it's being updated. Isn't Alto's still empty?
  9. Out of curiousity, are you guys able to track the credits for the naimation studios for the respective shows? It literally looks like they flipped the lineart and colored it differently. I was wondering perhaps if the sequences went to the same outsourced animators who just reused stuff.
  10. I hate it when pairing fans join just to argue about their fanpairings. On a lighter note, I think Nanase would make a really cute Miss Macross. Cathy = Hot Miss Macross. Klan Klan, Hot and HUGE MISS MACROSS.
  11. TIme to study the credits more carefully. More than likely they're men, although if so I have to say I'm enjoying the blogs. They're entertaining and witty and funny. I still feel like Sheryl may be really sick minus the pills. She had to be ill be ill before she got whatever Grace was trying to pawn off on her. I'm still wondering about the V-virus, although in a way maybe the little phages we see inside Ranka are those durn v-viruses. Anyhoo... could Sheryl and her swimsuit anecdote be referring to a stomach? ONe piece suits usually have a way of being unflattering to stomaches.
  12. Random cursing in backdrop. With an entire manga arc finished and never explored (as well as the mangaka's subsequent series largely tanking), why why why isn't this being optioned for a new series? >0( I actually think MF is in a good position to continue. I've seen shows like Darker than Black also enter the OVA /second season discussions recently in spite of the concerns about low audience share. DVDs and merchandise are an important part of recouping money in Japan. Besides which I've seen this show come out of nowhere and go neck to neck with Bleach, Code Geass, Vampire Knights in many forums and online communities. I think the one thing this show really is doing well is adding a new fanbase to Macross. The question is whether the younger folks will show support in buying merchandise and DVDs. (Or if the old ones like me will turn out in force and buy... )
  13. On a random Pixie Girl note -- what was the Captain fed at around 5:50? Is that octopus? Squid? (And why am I so amused by this particular relationship? Or lack thereof?)
  14. Eh. I think I'll spare myself character dissections that are undertaken with the idea of setting up Alto with someone else. As much as it's fun to think about it, Alto (as you said) doesn't interact with people normally. This is part of the problem I have with investing so much energy into pairing discussions with his character. He doesn't understand cues which could be charming in a "clueless boy" sort of way, but in a mature drama like Macross it's actually kind of odd to the point of being a bit "out of the ordinary." I am not yet sure he is capable of having a relationship that sustains itself without seriously annoying everyone else around him XD, so why argue about it so much on the internet? FOr the most part, Alto seems so far behind where he should be in terms of relating to and understanding people. I am not sure Alto is more rational or less with Ranka's rescue. The whole thing was so difficult to dissect pace-wise that as a result I got a very scattered impression of it. It'll be something to mull over as we go into the next episode. But I also do think that after someone helps save you and they end up in trouble for it, you'd also wig out too. Guilt? Like? Both? Maybe, maybe not.
  15. Yeah, the pacing was a bit off here. A lot of dramatic tension points were blown because of the quick resolution to various things. Like I would have vastly preferred that this whole planetary arc have been extended a bit, but maybe (just maybe) there will be another excuse to have a "special edition dvd" down the line with more inserted scenes X-3 Back to the music bits.... Were the slightly "techno" versions of various songs all that different from the original soundtrack? It almost sounded like they just dumped in a beat in a separate line under the original tracks, and didn't really recut/repace any of the music. (Need to go back and relisten.)
  16. Any word on normal sized character figures? While the chibis are cute, I vastly prefer something with them not superdeformed. Also... this is one of those instances where I'm wondering if Bandai by default will be releasing all. I've not been too happy with their sculpts of other popular shounen series lately, and in this one instance, would have preferred Yamato. (Yamato's Kenshin series is far superior to Bandai's Bleach series, IMHO.)

    Old Fanart

I really am digging the second image with all those mechs. Are you planning more?
  18. well, I just voted for Sheryl, and I'm definitely not male. Likewise not all males vote for Sheryl because she's more sexy, and not all females vote for Ranka either. Just trying to keep it real and not so serious. If I want to read a shipping war, I can read AS. These forums are fun because it's not all about fangirls fighting it out for a show that is only half way through its airing. As for livejournal, LJ doesn't distinguish multiple accounts originating from one IP address from another. There was no way to tell if the votes were unique or were sockpuppets. Sheryl did have a bigger margin on Ranka within the first 48 hours, and somehow it changed as the days went on.
  19. I'm not convinced that Alto is better. It's too easy to compare someone who is still being revealed slowly to thea udience to protagonists (or anti-heroes for that matter like in 00) who have been fleshed out more fully in 25 episodes or more. For one thing, we could get a massive plot device thrown at us that reveals that Alto isn't purely about the love of flying, but love of flying as linked to something else. I guess this is just one of those "wait and see" issues. On the one hand, I agree it's nice to have someone without all that mega-angst of the recent Gundam series (which is why I think I burned out on modern Gundam), but I'm afraid that right now Alto is still relatively less fleshed out than the other two main characters (Ranka and Sheryl) . PErhaps it's because I still him as largely reactionary and not answering some of the questions he had posed for himself in one of the earlier episodes about his motivations for flying. lalala. But thanks for putting in that link. I'd like to see the auteur revisit their post once we wrap up at 20 something episodes (unless we get lucky and get 39!).
  20. I looked for another thread to post this thought to, but didn't see anything (unless I missed it)... Overall, I've been frustrated with Alto's character. It's seemed a bit too flat-toned to me, but the last few episodes, I've been struck by how emotional Alto has been. It's been enough to make me think it worth paying attention to. I've been thinking about the last two episodes in which Alto has had this almost dogmatic and singleminded drive to rescue Ranka, and it's actually struck me that the somewhat reckless way he goes about it is similar to the situation in which he went after Luca, in which he went in really when others wouldn't. I'm not trying to diminish the importance of Ranka to Alto at all, but I was wondering at the irrationalities behind these two rescuesand whether it was just his age and part of somewhat brash and headstrong personality, or perhaps something deeper or linked to his otherwise unrevealed past. We have little information on his mother, other than possibly a glimpse of her in a flashback. We don't see her present at all in the modern day alongside the father in the few scenes we've had, and we do know that Alto is effing clueless when it comes to dealing with girls. Part of my thinking is that his mother died when he was fairly young, in what he might have perceived as a preventable incident. Or maybe she disappeared, and as a result, Alto has developed this almost too strong reaction to people being "taken away." It's just a thought, and I"d appreciate any other observations that one has had to correct or refine these ideas. I'm trying to flesh out the character a bit more because I do believe the writing staff isn't just trying to write a flat character but is keeping coy on the backstory elements because it's just their style.
  21. I'm going to go counter to popular opinion and state that massive death should not be a Macross thing. After all, Gundam00 did that this year , and that was even with a Season 2 looming. Why risk being called imitative? (Although character death doesn't seem to stick in Gundam-land, as evidenced by SEED.) Of cours eif this were Classic trek, all red-shirts should die. That means the other girls bite it at some point....
  22. Well if piloting doesn't qualify as awesome, there's really not much else we can say at this point. I for one think the last few episodes have solidified my impression of her as "determined" and not willing to just sit there and cry.
