  1. Thanks Renzus! The scan isn't good... the colors are actually not so washed out but ehhhh... I guess until I get a new scanner or figure out how to tweak the pictures better, I'll just have to say "take my word for it." Another colored scribble. Not feeling up to doing fully painted works yet for Macross. I think I'm leaning towards a massive group picture later, but only if the show doesn't piss me off in its final two episodes D: Edit: This version is probably much better.
  2. I think one of the things that will get addressed is Sheryl's past in a more cohesive fashion. I think Alto's really doesn't need much more exposition and 23 helped fill in Ranka's and Brera's past. The earring retcon from Zero just can't be there for no particularly good reason and we have yet to see Mao Nome and her take on the entire Vajra research project as well as get some resolution to the Zero mystery. My feeling is Sheryl is not related to Ranshe, but is linked primarily to Mao Nome. I also think for Grace to fail, some major miscalculations need to have been made on her part up to now. One of those possible "chance factors" is Sheryl....
  3. Yousei is really beautiful. It reminds me of Kanno's earlier stuff in a good way. The download versions are pretty nice. If you guys check out the livejournal comm http://whatboutmystar.livejournal.com you'll find something to tide you over until we can buy the single or CD.
  4. I think the first fansub hasn't really changed my perception that the dialogue can be interpreted in many different contexts. I actually think that digging deeper, Alto realizes that all of the motives he's mentioned were shaped by the circumstances thanks to the words of his brother. I think the only thing I walked away from the GG sub is that Alto wants to protect Frontier. (And I think the triangle, honestly, has nothing to do with it anymore, shippers. To give Alto that "small" of a purpose really diminishes the thoughtfulness of Alto.) My feeling is that the most likely to die atm is Alto. Or everyone. XD
  5. That explains who is folding in in the Lion OP opening, then. BTW, I was wrong on what the sillyi hairclip was for Brera. I thought it was a piece of foldquartz for communications, but it looks like it was part of the massive "reset" for Brera :-/ Off to d/l the gg sub and see if I can make my new machine play it D:
  6. Sure - it's at http://ecthelian.deviantart.com/art/Macros...ontier-97680132 I only put up the small thumb actually because it would be nice for her to get the pageviews as well as comments
  7. It's a traditional media piece (copics and inks), so what goes goes... and I'm pretty happy with it. The guys might not be, but the girls are generally happy with it too over at Deviantart XD
  8. Exactly. It's carefully crafted to be vague XD And now that I see that the writers enjoy loading things to be read with double, triple or possibly more meanings, I am going to have to rewatch Macross Frontier when all is said and done and put on a different hat when looking at Alto... as in... "he knew all along what he was doing." I still love one of the earlier stsatements he made when Michael challenged him as to why he was flying. I think he said something like "Do I have to have a reason?" It's kind of funny. It's actually a deep philosophical question that he seems to ponder, but I wondered about that too. Do you have to have reasons for certain things? What about just having general principles and following them? It's a kind of zen type question. I wonder if Alto is just being very zen in a way...
  9. I agree with the former paragraph, but not necessarily all of the latter mostly .. but don't mind me much. The differences are really not worth dragging out here because I still feel that the truth behind what Alto says in this episode will have to unfold a bit further. I thought I understood Alto to be an immature decisive kid until now but this episode showed me that I did not understand him all along. I may have misunderstood his 'inaction' and silence. Sometimes silence doesn't mean ignorance... in that sense I'm with you. I hope as this series ends, Alto finally speaks in a way the audience can put all the pieces together. I want there to be a character moment where we see him address something and we go "AHA - that explains everything about his previous perceived level of indecision." One that does worry me though is whether the writing team is going to give every villain a "complex" of sorts. That and I don't want a mysterious ending to this season... unless we're getting a second one!
  10. AHAHAHA. I commissioned one of my favorite artists to do a Sherylx Alto pic and she has posted it up. (Can't wait until I can pick it up next week >-D)
  11. Basically I find that everything "Frustrating" about him taken from the perspective that Alto has been raised counterculture (traditional Japanese, even MORE traditional than today's Japanese) tends to disappear upon reevaluation. I also tend to think (now watching the raw and verifying some translations from ickem who I tend to feel is fairly level-headed and unbiased in his translations) that the In light of that, and believing Alto has a more Asian outlook on life and responsibility, I think I understand the decisions he's made so far. I actually am glad for this episode, because I do'nt think he's a duncehead anymore. I just think he's different and completely misunderstood. I think I"ve misunderstood him all along, and that possibly others have as well.
  12. This comes down to what kind of writers we have present. I personally write from the perspective that the character drives the expression and the plot as opposed to trying to express the character according to audience mores and values. I don't know if that makes sense, but I would never bother creating a character with an East Asian background that doesn't reflect it in someway unless I was trying to just go for an impression. My feeling is that Alto's background needs to be taken into consideration when evaluating his interactions. That said, I think there's more to the scene than has been interpreted so far on these and other English-speaking boards . While some people need the kiss/sex to derive proof of deep feelings between characters, that is not something that is (to this day) generally expressed on most drama-based television in Japan and Korea. (Movies are wholly different matter.) Certainly anime falls outside those conventions, but I've never felt kawamori and Studio Nue write for that genre/niche of anime fans. I think they write what they perceive as fantasy or space opera or sci-fi first and might be sliglhtly surprised to think that they should conform to what anime has become lately. Certainly the "I won't believe it until I have proof" is a cultural concept as well that is more Western in origin, so for folks who won't believe something until it's spelt out for them, many things will be unsatisfying because life is not always literal.
  13. The same thing can be said for newsreports and papers... hence why I often read more than one source for news stories.(And this is non-translated English ) I actually didn't have problems with the fansubs for the episodes. What I find challenging is that the merits of dialogue are being debated by non-native speakers for the most part in various forums and communities based on one fansub alone or snippets of dialogue being generously translated by other fans. Then there is cultural filtering, which I feel sometimes is occurring in greater degree. I had very different interpretation of Episode 22 from the majority of the forum -- as relates to the Sheryl x Alto scene, but that's based on my biased Asian-American point of view of what is contextually appropriate to express and how 'love' is often not expressed. I don't mean to discuss episode 22 here in an ep23 thread, but let's say that I disagree with most of the discussion that's occurred here on the "lack of meaning" of the SxA scene. It doesn't mean I'm right, but it does mean I differ based on my relative Asian background versus others who are from different countries and different cultural situations.
  14. I found after watching GG's and Lunar's subs from the last episode that my understanding of certain scenes shifted considerably as did my perceptions of certain characters from what people were saying in the forum discussions that followed the raw release. Based on the initial debating here, I'll wait for the sub, I think, before jumping in on this one or wait for translations from a few folks first before drawing any conclusions.
  15. Sounds like a Kawamori type episode. Flip-flops and twists are his specialty. Can anyone speak to how the Japanese fandom is reacting? (While I wait until I can go home and watch the horrible raw?)
  16. goes to show, you can't replace watercolors with any new digital techniques. Sure you can get close, but there's something really different (texturewise) about natural media. As for Grace... I think the fanartists are still more interested in the SherylxAlto developments last episode XD
  17. Could the mistake be due to bacteriophage being confused by the subbers? bacteriophages are viruses, but I could understand why that got messed up. As for the rest of this thread... geez, folks. Speculate all you want, but unless you're a scriptwriter for the last three episodes, no one is authoritative here.
  18. I'm still amused by that Newtype illustration where Sheryl = Basara. As it really just messes with everything that fans may have been trying to speculate so far.
  19. The fans are so funny. I love how they inserted whoops and the front row was waving around, synchronized. As far as live performances of this song go, this was better pitch wise. May'n occasionally goes sharp but here I noticed only one place where there was a noteable pitch issue.
  20. Thanks for providing that avi. Having used all2avi a few times and being mortified by the processor hogging it does (as well as really screwing up the fonts0, this is so very much appreciated.
  21. I'm still amused by the idea that it was one of Graces other personas copping a feel while Grace (dominant) was exhorting her success. ... Because I like the idea that when they find out what she was aiming for,we might get to see a scene where Grace strangles herself :3
  22. I was thinking about Ranka's earlier Aimo that had brought out Ai-kun from who knows where ... the random appearance of a hydra that was not supposed to exist on Frontier was kind of interesting to me. It was a strange little parallel in my mind, and assuming that Kawamori and his writer crew had made the point to tell us they had gotten rid of the hydra and have one show up in the ruins was fascinating. I hope it gets explained . Brought this up in another thread, but after watching 22 , there's something dangling plot-wise that bothers me. The issue of the Sheryl's switched blood samples back by Grace back when Sheryl was hospitalized is another little puzzle to me with a few possibilities. 1> Grace switched it out so the v-type virus couldn't be detected and therapeutically addressed. 2> Grace switched it out and replaced it with a sample that was "infected" to hide something else. Due to the skips and stuff , I don't know if Sheryl ever had a followup evaluation with her actual blood being tested in other words. It is another dangling item that drives me nuts as I watch 22. We don't know under what basis Luca makes his statements about Sheryl's condition. With the translation I can't tell whether he is talking to Sheryl's condition specifically or generally. He may be hypothesizing everything based on the knowledge everyone has, which is still based on fairly good circumstantial evidence, but to be truthful, a biopsy/actual sample would be the best way to understand the progress of Sheryl's disease... her viral load, assuming we can take everything stated so far to be "true" and that Sheryl really is infected. (Remember that Type-Alpha blood type that showed up for Sheryl in a wiki or profile? Could it be that everything that is happening to her is more related to the Nome-family link that v-type infection?) (Because there's still the possibility that all of this could be manipulated since Grace is quite good at that and Sheryl's 'condition' serves her purposes.) And there I go again with the bio-tech stuff
  23. Mmm. I've been kicking this around since last night after looking at the script for 22 , and the issue of the switched blood samples by Grace has never been satisfactorily resolved in my mind. It makes me think that it's possible that the v-type infeciton perception could be all based on the switched blood sample and isn't the "truth" per se regarding Sheryl's condition. I don't know if Sheryl ever had a followup evaluation with her actual blood being tested in other words... which could mean Grace is manipulating everything for a specific reason and allowing everyone to think Sheryl has the v-type infection, but there's a remote possibility that it's not true and everyone is accepting it on the basis of Grace's word and that faked blood sample. And that reminds me. I'll throw it back into 22's discussion...
  24. I hate to say it, but I still think Sheryl is going to get absorbed into the Vajra hivemind or something like it. I keep looking at the OP for Lion and while I guess the clip where she gets dragged into the pit by red ribbons could mean figurative death (or refer to her fall from grace), I just keepthinking it's a Kawamori type gesture to just slip someone through some kind of reality-altering existence ._. (I'm still WTF-ing over Escaflowne.)
