  1. Oh wow, I was not even aware of this gallery. I'll take a look and upload other stuff later! Thanks for pointing this out.
  2. Actually there are some problems with long-term exposure to artificial gravity. It has been speculated that someone who lives in space for long time might not be able to return to normal "Earth" gravity.... this has been really one of the questions about our own current space flight programs to distant planets. You can bet that the astronauts in the space station are regularly examined for bone density changes and other issues. http://www.permanent.com/s-centri.htm http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/1995/gravity-1129.html That's an interesting observation though. I hadn't realized both Mao and Bilrer were in wheelchairs at all until this thread pointed it out. In the first epi (not sure if it was deculture or broadcast version), we saw Sheryl and Grace going through an adjustment chamber when they boarded Frontier. I believe they set the gravity to something like .7g. (1g is normal Earth gravity) If you were Mao or Bilrer and were on the older ships, it is possible that environmental controls were not treated the same way and they had spent their early years under less gravity which could make it worse as they got older and adjusted to newer ships. I don't know enough about the tech spechs of older Macross colony ships so someone please chime in!
  3. was there any new merchandise there??? Or any special Concert-related stuff? And I wonder if there's any likelihood of a special CD release for material there. (Still hoping fo ra Turn-A Gundam type of orchestral release for MF.)
  4. The reason there isn't a lot of pro-Ranka discussion here, or much triangle-baiting is becuase most of the people here are not singularly obsessed with that aspect of the show. The fans on this forum are fans of Macross first. Not of a pairing. Over the last few months,l I have seen "pro-Ranka" fans post here generally only in the relationship thread. If you want to see that discussion, I"d dig up that thread. It tends to be circular and boring, with people spinning the same scenes according to their own biases. Since many people on this board can not be convinced by arguments of fans who care about nothing else except that or the other pairing and have their own opinions, relationship "shipping" tends to eventually get ignored in favor of other interesting discussion. Like on plot. Or character death. To talk about something else -- is the likelihood of a R1 release pretty unlikely? COuld any threat of Harmony Gold expressing interest in asserting some kind of court case to try to "redecide" the Macross ownership make this a dead Region 1 property? If so, I do want to know. I've been considering buying a R2 DVD player or BluRay anyways. I'm most interested in the special items that come with the DVDs though (booklets, stickers), so I want to start looking. If the BluRays don't come with the special stuff the regular dvds do, then I think I'd rather spend less and buy a R2 player...
  5. To be honest, this was the most fascinating part of the series fo rme, and partially why I felt that the other characters suffered in comparison. It wasn't that they were badly written, it was just the Sheryl arc was extremely compelling and sad to watch. I think pushing that "punishment" on a character was highly effective, if not a bit uncomfortable. As a result, I think the agony and pain of other characters was dwarfed for me, with the exception being the Klan Klan/Michael resolution . I completely understand why Sheryl fans are a bit dissatisfied with things. You spend so many episodes tearing down a character, to restore her condition in about 30 seconds in the last ep. In a way, I wonder how the movie is going to tackle the issue of dying and death in such a short timeframe if it is a retelling. (And if , at all!)
  6. Ah, so it will be a retelling. I find these comments really interesting in that the character of Sheryl probably was the least planned from the start. I wonder about Alto though. Is it possible that he just got eaten alive character-wise by the two female leads?
  7. More on May'n courtesy of ANN: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-...rm-in-singapore Singapore's Anime Festival Asia has announced that May'n (May Nakabayashi), the singing voice of Sheryl Nome in the Macross Frontier anime series, will be performing at the November 22-23 event. May'n will be joining other guests including Kunio Okawara, the mechanical designer for Gundam, Votoms, and GaoGaiGar: King of Braves, and Genius Party Beyond co-director Koji Morimoto. May'n is performing for the first time outside Japan at this convention. Her first two singles, the Macross Frontier ending theme "Diamond Crevasse" and the "Lion" duet with Megumi Nakajima, both reached #3 on Oricon's CD singles chart this year. May'n is also appearing in three concerts in Japan this month and next month, including one at the famous Nippon Budōkan arena. Morimoto will be presenting Genius Party Beyond, Studio 4°C's anthology of five shorts by five promiment anime directors, at the Anime Festival Asia.
  8. Commissioned from another artist I know :3 (see origina link at http://shecow.deviantart.com/art/Macross-F...ssion-100045051 )
  9. Chewie - those are great Thanks for posting them.
  10. The charity concert song is Yousei/Fairy.
  11. Yeah I don't recognize track 15 much at all either, unless it was part of the frantic bit where Sheryl got into that plane and tried to drag her and Michael 'somewhere.' As for requests for the file guys, look a page back-- your mods are posting it http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...st&p=668121 Scans... we'll see if they show up. Usually one of the regular groups like Shinsenmusic handles it later, but if not and I get my copy soon, I will take care of it.
  12. * Downloading the Lunar MKV files while I decide whether to go BluRay or buy a regionless DVd player so I can buy MF (since the licensing remains questionable) and then will do a rewatch :DDDD * Waiting for the first character book to get here from Japan ... *Stalking Ebay for merchandise * Ordered the two main soundtracks * Commissioned an Alto Sheryl drawing from another artist * Contemplating fanart... drawing more cards like this: more than likely, I'm going to draw AruSheryl >D * Waiting for ADV release of SDFM
  13. Oh wow. I love this version of Triangular with the girls... hate to say it, as I'm such a big fan of Maaya.... This soundtrack is serious win.... going to go get it from YesAsia now X3
  14. Overall, I love this soundtrack -- when you put it next to YK's other work on Darker than Black, you're almost shocked that it ocmes from the same composer. I think of all the songs in MF, Yousei/Fairy is the one I enjoy the most. The lyrics are very personalized... I don't think there's any way one can deny that Sheryl wrote it for Alto given the way she refers to his long hair... XD Also, it has a really nice mix of the styles of Yoko Kanno (err Gabriela Robin) in that it has May'ns very pop voice, but the instrumentation reminds me most of her Arjuna work....
  15. That group picture is so awesome... pretty interesting how they reallytried to include all the incidental characters... that and it takes a lot to do that much. Most fanartists aren't that diligent enough to bother with more than a few characters at a time!
  16. Agree to the comments about trolling. I don't see Kawamori as trolling... more like playing with us. That is really what someone who loves storytelling does to keep us with him the entire time. After all, a troll (true troll) would have killed everyone off, thus disrespecting the audience. Instead I see a happy ending with people getting what they deserved, whether good or bad. I'm a bit sad this run wasn't 32 episodes though. I know those days where anime can go on that long are over... we are now in an era where anime is just long enough to be marketable (11-13 episode arcs, 25-26 if we're lucky, 52 if there's significant commitment). I would love to see what would happen if we had a 30 episode macross... and don't want to wait FIVE years for such a deal. Really, as someone not initiatied in Macross at all until I saw this show, I can't say I was disappointed at all. This was one of those shows that made me nostalgic for anime again. The last few years has been awash with so many bad shows, derivative shows, and this one just made me respect the industry again for being interesting and entertaining, as well as being able to weave together a deeply meaningful theme amidst the fantasy. I'm really much happier with the ending now that I've had time to process it these past two days. I can't wait to see what Kawamori pulls out next and I don't think I can bear to watch another Gundam show ever again. (Well - actually - only if they bring back SEED with lots of pop songs XD) I'm a bit nervous that this show will never get licensed here. I may make the plunge into BluRay next month just for this show. Serious.
  17. Thanks for pointing that out. I'd hate for K©anaria to not be there. IT was sad though that the underlings for Alto bit it. (Kawamori - you are so mean.... you let the red-shirts live for an extra episode and then killed them off XD ). Wolfx: I think to be honest, Alto will continue to wander around. I'm not comfortable pegging him down to either girl at this point because they both seemed sort of fixed on the "Singing" path. For some reason, I feel that now these folks have been dropped on a new unexplored planet, I could definitely see SMS flying around, charting the terrain, helping establish a new world. To me, that really changes the daily sort of routines and dreams of likely everyone involved. The path that existed before (as Sheryl stated) doesn't really exist anymore. Something new has started. The possibilities have been opened up actually to no romantic pairing. COlonizing is a whole new world literally and figuratively. Another random plot dangler - Think the message to EArth will result in more people coming to the VAjra homeworld in the near future? Kind of an interesting idea in itself to keep following. If there was ever a desire to spin off storylines, Frontier has left so many things open to explore.
  18. True. That was a very touching statement, but more or less every character that "walked alone" in this show ended up in trouble (e.g., Grace who lost RAnshe and Mao and went to the collective, and Leon, who was serving himself). It's very interesting to me that this show really spent a lot of time showing relationships -- familial, romantic, comraderie, etc. I think in that sense, this show was doing something so subtle all this time and I didn't pick up on why there was so much emphasis until the last two episodes. (In other words, the "Triangles" are everywhere playing out among the rest of the characters.) I guess some people are going to still obsess about the pairing, but the point is that all three characters Alto, SHeryl, and Ranka have their weak or annoying moments and the others bring out the good parts. It's a good thing characters didn't have to rely solely on just one other person. Just as Sheryl was motivation to Alto and Ranka to start down their own paths, in the end the two of them brought her the strength she needed when she thought all was said and done. I almost can reconcile that the necessary ending was no resolution to the triangle because it might send out the wrong message regarding the network of relationships humans need to maintain their sense of purpose or humanity, or to avoid going down the wrong path.
  19. I feel pretty certain after watching the sub that Grace's other collaborators were likely completely obliterated. The mystery of what Galaxy was though still intrigues me. There were obviously human-types around, so did they get blown up with the rest of Galaxy? That's one of the plot thingies that still sort of bugs me. As for the ship stuff, *shrug* I still have an opinion that there's an advantage (however short-lived) for Sheryl, but that may or may not last. Really, who cares? Ranka seems to like Alto, but she also seems to like Sheryl (and Sheryl likes Ranka). I don't think of the ending as anything except a friendly rivalry , because Alto for the most part goes flying around BEFORE he lands. I get the feeling people wanted to see him go do something uncharacteristically Alto (or Japanese) and go in for the kill with a kiss or picking a girl. What I think IS cool, is the little speech Brera and Alto make before blowing up Grace is the statement about love and humans (inferred) not being able to be alone. Does it really matter to Kawamori who Alto chooses? Probably not. I think the key statement made in this episode and the previous one is that humans can't walk alone, no matter who or what they choose. The little look on Grace's face as she realizes her death is imminent is kind of sad too. All this time, I've been wondering if the "android collective" was what she turned to when she lost Mao and Ranshe. In a twisted way, she was trying to be close to them all this time. And with this second look at the ending and what I think Kawamori wanted us to walk away with, I am so much happier with it. The only nagging fear I have is "What happened to Kanaria?" I didn't see her in the final pan/shot of the crew from the Quarter. I hope this gets addressed in the movie release. (I'd like to see an OVA kind of like the Gundam Wing treatment where we got more ending scenes to bring closure to more characters.)
  20. Nice. The raw script from GG works without much correction with the high quality raw. If you use BSPlayer, you can turn the .ass into a .ssa file and drag it in while BSPlayer plays the raw. Other comments-- So Klan was working with OZma all along. Luca's slave ships were "inhibited" before.... (Luca states something about the yokes being gone now...) Regarding Bilrer/Minmay - I agree - I think he wanted to know what happened to Minmei. Ultimate curious fanboy like the rest of us. Sadly, we didn't get any insight either.
  21. Man.... this be a sad thread. Scan of Michael trading card I did this weekend while at a convention. Was rather fun working on a trading card size "paper" There's also an Ozma copic sketch floating around out there, but the person I have given it to has not scsanned it yet for me....
  22. To be honest, I found the venue to have issues with crowd control and noise control. Musical performances were often drowned out by other performances in other rooms. Food ran out very early too on Saturday... I'm still debating whether to go, given the shortage of gas in the area... it's a far trek up to Duluth.
  23. I believe they were there with her. Watching back, I see shadow figures behind her at one point when she integrates... therefore, I also think they were blown up too... although I suppose that's mostly inferred because in theory one can always argue that someone didn't escape if there was ever a desire to do a sequel.
  24. I think this is quite plausible. Kawamori isn't exactly a conventional romance fan, by any means. (Sorry, but I'm still amused by the memories of the fanwank over Escaflowne the Movie, when it ended JUST LIKE THE ANIME with no pairing.) Someone else said something about possible duplicate ova endings for this to be released... I kind of want to see a MacrossF dating sim type scenario in addition to the two possible OVAs. I bet it would be quite lucrative!! <3 Edit: Watching this again on the hi qual, I picked out lots of recycled animation. :-/
